Chapter 17: Makino I'm back!

The next day, as Garp had promised, the two began to pack up their belongings and head back to Foosha village. Even though Luffy was a little disappointed that Garp had to return to continue his work as a Marine, he had no choice but to wait another time.

Luffy muttered something under his breath as he looked at Garp, who was walking in front of him, "Not that I will miss this old geezer, but to be honest, it's just that he is the only person who is suitable to train me in this village."

"what, are you going to miss me?" asked Garp while taking a glance back, but Luffy was quick to refute it:

"No, of course not, take advantage of the time you have there and have fun."

"You spoiled brat, each and every one of your comments never fails to get under my skin!" yelled Garp, and as if anticipating what this grizzled veteran would do next, Luffy hastily added:

"but even so, I will still ask as to when will you come back here?."

"Humm, I don't know, maybe I won't come back again, who wants to meet a mischievous grandson like you?"

As if he didn't care, Luffy then walked faster and passed Garp while asking him, "can I ask something?"

"What else do you want brat?"

Garp's eyebrows slightly raised as if he didn't expect Luffy to ask something from him because this boy had never asked anything from him in the past, or rather he didn't dare. But, even though Luffy could be said to have lost his memory, this was still unusual for Garp.

"While you are in the vast sea there, can I ask for items that are not in this Foosha village."

"Do you want to fool me Luffy! There are millions or even countless items in the vast sea there, are you telling me to get it all?"

Noticing that Garp was becoming agitated, Luffy quickly turned around while walking backward and explained, "Of course not. The things I want are maps, compasses, books, and other interesting things, and if possible..."

At the point where he was about to finish his sentence, Luffy paused and seemed hesitant. Although Garp was somewhat taken aback by his grandson's request because he was curious, Garp told Luffy to continue.

"Devil Fruit... can you get me a Devil Fruit?"

"What!!! didn't I hear wrong?" Garp let out a shocked shout, and although he wanted to give Luffy a few good knocks to the head to give him some sense, he restrained himself.

"Do you know what a Devil Fruit is? Do you know how rare it is, and what do you plan to do after you get it, don't tell me you want to eat it?"

Garp started to blurt out what he was thinking loudly while trying to advise Luffy. The latter was laughing broadly at the sight of Garp's panicked face.

"After reading from the book and hearing grandpa's explanations for these few days, I've become curious about Devil Fruits, and I want to take a closer look, but don't worry I won't eat them."

After seeing Garp starting to calm himself down, Luffy continued, "I know that Devil Fruits also have levels of rarity, so grandpa just needs to find me the most ordinary Devil Fruit."

After hearing what Luffy said, Garp seemed to think about something while holding his chin. He was silent for a considerable amount of time before breaking his silence and saying:

"Being an intelligent and well-informed Marine is, without a doubt, an important quality to possess. I can also borrow a Devil Fruit from the confiscation room. I'm sure they won't mind it."

"Thank you grandpa."

"Don't be happy just yet. You must remember not to eat it because, besides being cursed to never be able to swim again, Devil Fruit users will also experience several other obstacles. Besides, as long as you do hard training, you will be able to beat Devil Fruit users easily.. ."

Luffy then started to turn around and run quickly in the direction of Foosha village, knowing full well that Garp's lengthy and tedious lecture would not end any time soon.

"Hey! Do you understand Luffy!"

"I know, grandpa!"

-

Luffy, who had run quite a distance to get away from Garp, was now standing in front of the Partys Bar. He started to enter with excitement, and once he did, he saw several Foosha villagers drinking and chatting inside.

Luffy seemed to be searching for someone or something by looking to the right and the left, but he could not find it, so he asked the people inside the bar for help.

"Where's Makino?"

The response came from an elderly man who was sitting around drinking sake with his friends. "Oh, Luffy, tell me about the training. How did it go? If you are looking for Makino, you can find him behind."

Luffy ignored the elderly man's question, and after thanking him, he went to a room behind the bartender's counter.

The room that Luffy entered was the bar's storage room, and as soon as he was inside, his eyes lit up because he saw the person he had been looking for.

This storage room has rows of wooden cupboards filled with ingredients for the bar and rows of wooden barrels filled with sake. At one end of the room, a beautiful young woman with dark green hair was picking up bags of sugar, coffee, and tea, as well as other items, which made it somewhat difficult for her to carry all of them at once.

That woman's name is Makino, and it seems that she is unaware of Luffy's arrival, even though he is currently approaching her from behind in order to spring a surprise on her.

"Makino I'm back!"
