Chapter 7: 'I lost my memory' plan
After witnessing Makino leave, I heaved a sigh of relief, and almost instantly, my entire body started to relax once more. Even my heart, which had been beating erratically, started to slow down and become steady.
"I think my plan worked well earlier."
"At least I'll have some time to figure out how to adapt to the situation and gather as much information as I can without worrying that anyone will suspect me."
The plan I'm referring to is the one in which I end up forgetting everything because after hearing and speculating about what caused the severe injury I sustained, I'm confident that this plan can go off without a hitch and make enough sense to be accepted.
"Unfortunately I don't have much information about the One Piece anime and manga, so I have to listen carefully to what these people are saying, because from that I can get the information I need."
For instance, I am aware that I am currently in the village of Foosha, which is situated in East Blue. As far as I can remember, Luffy spent a significant portion of his childhood in this place.
Many famous characters who are known for their influence and strength in this world of One Piece start their stories in this Foosha village.
"I don't know if this is luck. Now that I'm in Luffy's body, it's really surprising... is this what it's like to transmigrate to another world?"
In the past few days, I've realised this is the case, but I'm no closer to understanding why I was transported to another world, let alone to this world of One Piece.
"Does that mean I already died in my original world..." I said in a low voice, and for some reason, my heart ached a little, but in the end, I just took a deep breath and lay back down.
"Am I just going to accept it that easily... is there something or someone that I miss... I don't know, I don't remember, and I don't think I want to remember..."
I started to slowly cover my body, and because I had just taken medicine, drowsiness began to sink into my body, which helped to further obscure my surroundings.

"Luffy! I heard you can talk already. Is that true?"
I was jolted awake by a few footsteps and a man's loud voice, and as soon as I opened my eyes, I was taken aback by a familiar middle-aged man's face.
I thought to myself, with a trace of irritation, 'Garp... as usual, this guy doesn't know how to hold back,' but after I cleared my head, I started to wake up completely.
"What's up, Luffy? Have you really forgotten everything?" Garp yelled at me while he was pressing his hand firmly on my shoulder, causing me to wince in discomfort. But I quickly nodded my head and said:
"I think so. Can you let go of my shoulders now?"
"Oh, sorry" Garp hurriedly let go of his hands while simultaneously scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. However, after he did so, he screamed once more to continue saying:
"So... so you don't remember me, your grandfather?"
"You're Garp, aren't you," I answered with a bit of hesitation.
"It turns out you haven't lost your memory brat, and also how dare you call me just by my name!"
*smack
Garp, who seemed to have misunderstood, then gave me a hard hit to the head, and immediately my entire body felt like it had received an electric shock, causing me to scream out in agony.
When Makino saw that, she ran over to me as quickly as she could and wrapped her arms around me while rubbing my head, which was still a little lumpy from the punch Garp had given me earlier.
"Why you hit your grandson! Luffy called your name of course because he doesn't remember you are his grandpa!" Makino shouted angrily, and it was only this time that Garp realized it.
"What!!!... that means Luffy really lost his memory!!!" Garp yelled with wide eyes and a gaping mouth in disbelief, and he tried to look at me carefully and thoroughly, and when he discovered that I wasn't lying, he couldn't help but sigh in disappointment.
"How am I going to explain this to your father."
Garp now looked panicked. Meanwhile, Makino, still hugging my body, started assuring me not to worry. On the other hand, I, who had seen everyone's reaction earlier, subconsciously showed a slight smile on my face.
Garp, who was unable to believe what he was hearing, began to warn me, saying, "Watch out, brat. If you try to fake memory loss, I will hit you hard on the head until you lose real memory."
A glare from Makino was directed at Garp as she said, "Okay, can you come out now? I will take care of Luffy from now on."
Garp, in the end, did not have any other option besides leaving the room, and at this point, it was just Makino and me.
Because Makino never let go of her hug, I, who felt awkward in this atmosphere, asked, "is it already night?"
"You're right, the sun went down just a moment ago."
"umm, do you need anything Luffy? I'm sure you are bored right, having only been able to lie down for the past few days."
After Makino asked that, I thought of something, actually I wanted to ask her to bring me something, but because I didn't want to make her suspicious so I never said it, but now the situation has changed, with the 'I lost my memory' plan, I can do anything more freely.
"Then can you bring me a book?"
"books?"
"Yes, whatever book it is, I want to read it."
At first, Makino looks confused. But, soon, she seemed to understand something. Her eyes began to sparkle with excitement, and she then asked:
"Do you want to try reading a book to help restore your memory?"
Although that wasn't my intention, for now, I could only nod my head, and after that, Makino excitedly started running outside while promising me that she would bring lots of books.
