Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Between Duty & Desire
The next day, Arin arrived at the project site with a clear purpose. She wanted to ensure that their past wouldn't affect their work any longer. It was time to confront the tension between her and Pin.
As the morning went on, Arin noticed Pin in the corner of the room, fully focused on her work. Taking a deep breath, Arin approached her. "Pin, can we talk for a moment?" she asked, her tone firm but calm.
Pin looked up, cautious but intrigued. "Now? What do you want?"
"I just think we need to clear the air," Arin said. "Our past shouldn't impact our work. I want to be able to work together without any issues."
Pin raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms defensively. "So you want to pretend everything is fine?"
"No," Arin replied. "I'm not saying that. I just want us to focus on the project. If you have ideas, I'm open to them, and I'll respect your input like I do with everyone else."
Pin hesitated but eventually nodded. "Fine. We can try that. But it doesn't mean everything is forgotten."
"Agreed," Arin said. "Let's just focus on the work for now."
As the days passed, Arin found herself working closely with Pin. Despite their agreement, memories of their past kept surfacing, stirring feelings she tried to suppress. Arin longed to reconnect with Pin, but reminders of their hurtful history made her hesitant.
Similarly, Pin sometimes felt the urge to reach out to Arin and discuss their feelings. However, the pain from their past held her back. She knew that confronting those emotions could open old wounds, and she wasn't sure she was ready for that.
Despite the unspoken tension, they managed to collaborate effectively on the project. They shared ideas, tackled challenges, and slowly found a rhythm, but the emotional distance between them remained. Both women were navigating their feelings while trying to keep things professional, making the situation even more complicated.
One afternoon, as they worked late, Arin caught herself glancing at Pin, admiring her focus and determination. It was hard to ignore the connection they once had. But every time she felt drawn to Pin, memories of their breakup flooded her mind, reminding her of why they were in this situation.
Pin, on the other hand, noticed Arin's lingering gazes and felt a mix of emotions. Part of her wanted to reach out, to bridge the gap between them. But the hurt from the past made her cautious, unsure if she could trust Arin again.
As they continued working, both women were aware that the unresolved feelings between them were simmering beneath the surface, complicating their professional relationship. They had agreed to set aside their past, but the emotional toll of their history was harder to shake off than either of them had anticipated.
