I Have a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon System in a World with Pokemon

Chapter 122: Surging Undercurrents

"When inside the Pokeportal, it's best to accomplish your goal immediately. In this case, does anyone remember the purpose of our trip?"

"Um, isn't it for us to gain experience?

Professor Kristine stared at the student who spoke, the corner of her lips slightly curving upwards.

"Correct. And to do that, we'll start with fighting as much as possible."

"Eh?"

The professor ignored the student's reactions. Under her lead, they began walking towards the herd of Deerling and Sawsbuck grazing in the distance.

Some students who saw this were puzzled. Pokemon like Deerling and Sawsbuck are nomadic and docile creatures. When approached in the wild, their response would be to either flee or watch out of curiosity.

At least, that's what's stated in the Alliance database. Therefore, when the Deerlings and Sawsbuck charged towards them, these students were surprised.

"Now, show me what you got."

Kristine calmly stepped aside, her arms crossed in front of her chest- a silent indication that she wouldn't take action.

The students can only silently complain as they prepare for the group of deer-like Pokemon to arrive. Dante and his group, who were walking behind Professor Kristine, would be the first to encounter them.

Dante looked at the 26 Pokemon in front, and then the 39 other students around him. It seems there won't be enough for everyone.

"What are you thinking about, Dan? Please don't plan to knock them all out. Leave some for the rest of us."

"Hey! I'm not that selfish, okay?"

Dante grumbled at Candice's request. He looked down at Teddiursa who was hanging onto his jacket and patted his butt.

"It's your turn, lazyhead. Let's show your mother how strong you've become."

Teddiursa blearily opened his eyes. He looked at Shinobu, and then at the approaching Pokemon.

"Teddiursa!" (Yosh! I'll take them all down!)

"Hey! Just take down the one in front. Don't be greedy."

"Ursa..."

Teddiursa reluctantly nodded after hearing Dante's words. Then, he released his hold on the jacket and began stretching on the snowy ground.

"Are you sure about this, Dan? That Sawsbuck seems to be the most powerful among the group."

"It's fine~ he can handle it."

"But didn't Teddy hatch just a month ago? He should have just left the infancy stage."

Shinobu looked at Dante dubiously. She knew her boyfriend wasn't a reckless person. However, even after much thought, she still doesn't understand how Teddiursa can take that Sawsbuck down.

Beside her, Focalors, Kachina, and Candice, who also knew the circumstances of Teddiursa, were similarly confused. But when they looked at Dante's confident expression, they decided to adopt a wait-and-see approach.

As the Deerling and Sawsbucks neared, all the students commanded their Pokemon to stand in front of their group.

"Teddiursa!"

Teddiursa shouted, his body glowing faintly white as he used Swords Dance. Then, his body blurred and he arrived in front of his target.

"Sawsbuck!"

"Ursa!"

Clenching his fist, Teddiursa avoided Sawsbuck's stomp with a sidestep. Then, he punched the deer-like Pokemon on its legs, causing its upper body to bend down.

Not missing this opportunity, Teddiursa continued to punch Sawsbuck on the jaw, neck, and body, before finishing with a kick.

The girls watched in astonishment as Sawsbuck collapsed into the snow, the baby bear Pokemon standing triumphantly on its body.

"...Dan, seriously, how do you train your Pokemon?"

"Uh, through energy drinks?"

"I see... Continue monitoring their location."

"Roger that, boss."

Inside a dark and empty room, a man with sallow cheeks, hunched back, and dark eyebags tapped the phone and ended the call.

"Lilligant, give me a refill."

"Lilligant."

Lilligant, who was standing beside him, bowed and walkedtremblingly towards the kitchen.

The man paid no heed to her actions, having gotten used to it. Instead, his eyes glanced around the room, a trace of reminiscence, sorrow, and smoldering rage within them.

Only two months ago, this room contained all his achievements. Trophies and certificates awarded by the Alliance, jewelry, and luxuries he bought. But now, all that was left were crumpled posters of three people pasted on the wall.

"Neuvilette. Chasca. Dante. I swear, I'll drag the three of you with me to hell if it's the last thing I'll do."

The man clenched the armrest of his chair, the wood remaining unmoved from the force he exerted. A smile stretched on his unkempt face, contrasting with the manic anger in his eyes.

"L-Lilli?"

Lilligant's concerned voice sounded beside him as she placed the tea on the desk.

"Shut up! If it weren't for your carelessness, none of this would have happened in the first place!"

The man slapped Lilligant across the cheek with all his strength. But with his scraggly body, he couldn't exert much force. Even so, after being hit by her Trainer, tears accumulated in Lilligant's eyes.

The man ignored her. After taking a sip of the tea, he opened his phone and logged onto a gloomy-looking website. After verifying his identity with a face and fingerprint scan, he clicked on the email and selected the one with the name: Hunter J.

"J, two of the targets have entered neutral area. When will you take action?"

"Shelly, use Giga Drain."

"Accel!"

Accelgor zipped past the charging Piloswine. At the same time, his mouth released a ball of Grass-type energy he had been gathering towards said Pokemon.

Piloswine grunted in pain, his body falling sideways with a thud. Right after, green blobs of light emerged from his body and returned to Accelgor.

"Good job, Shelly."

Shinobu patted Accelgor's head in praise, looking around the field to see if anyone needed aid. Finding everyone had their battle under control, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"Tired?"

"A little. It's just, I didn't expect the Pokemon here to be so different from the ones in the forest."

"Hmm, yeah."

Shinobu felt her boyfriend's gloved hand wrapped around hers. Looking at Dante who didn't even seem fazed about what was happening, she felt her worries slowly disappear.

From the moment they passed through the barrier, only 4 or 5 hours had passed. And in that period, they had fought more than a dozen times. Sneasel, Tauros, Deerling, Sawsbuck, Snover, Spheal, Bergmite, no matter if a Pokemon is known to be docile, as soon as they encounter their group, they will instantly initiate an attack.

According to Professor Kristine, the cause of the Pokemon's aggressive nature inside the Pokeportals is due to genetic defects from being born in an incomplete world. Not only are their intelligence lower than the average Pokemon, but their propensity for violence is also higher.

This issue is currently one of the biggest problems the Alliance wants to solve. They've already invented a machine to resolve this defect, but it only works on Pokemon that haven't hatched from their Eggs yet.

That was created decades ago by a genius Professor. And ever since then, no other progress has been made.

"Good. Is anyone injured?"

After the students took care of the Piloswine and Swinubs, Kristine stepped forward and asked.

True to what she said, every time a battle took place, she would merely stand by and watch from the sidelines. Only when a student has suffered deadly injuries will she command Infernape to help them.

Currently, 6 students have already suffered such debilitating injuries. Among them, a girl from Class 2-B had both of her legs fractured after failing to completely dive out of the way of a Tauros' charge attack.

Fortunately, Professor Berto was lent the school's Chansey in case of such accidents. But even so, the knowledge that they may suffer such pain had the students on edge.

"We'll take a break here. Eat lunch and replenish your energy. We'll continue in 30 minutes."

Professor Kristine's announcement caused the students to slump on the snowy ground in relief. Seeing such a lack of discipline, Kristine frowned. But as she was about to reprimand them, a hand on her shoulder made her pause.

"Let them relax for now. They'll need it for what we'll encounter later."

"Hmph, you're too lax on them, Berto."

"Hah, we're teachers, after all, not soldiers. Unnecessary discipline will only hinder their growth as Trainers."

Berto shook his head as he watched his colleague walk away, not even responding to his statement.

Omake - Guild Graduation (Canon)

(Two days after returning from the Expedition)

"What? Graduation!?"

Pikachu's loud shout made the apprentices cover their ears. At this time, the Guild's morning assembly had ended and everyone was just waiting for Chatot to issue the dismissal. However, the news he announced shocked all of them instead.

"That's right, graduation from the Guild. After discussing with the Guildmaster, we determined that your team already possessed the strength and experience to become an official Exploration Team."

"G-golly, so soon?"

"Yeah! What gives? I should have been chosen to graduate first!"

"Hey, hey. Loudred, you already took an exam months ago and failed."

"T-that was different! If I take it again now-"

"Ehem!"

Loudred's mouth forcibly shut under Chatot's glare. The other apprentices also stopped their discussion, instead silently looking at Team Omnipotent Travelers.

At this time, Dante, Pikachu, Azumarill, and Teddiursa had huddled up to discuss this graduation thing. Azumarill didn't care much about graduating, while Pikachu and Teddiursa said they'd miss the other guild members.

Still, since they would visit the Guild every day to accept tasks anyway, Pikachu and Teddiursa's worries were unwarranted. In the end, they just passed the decision to Dante on whether they should graduate now or not.

"But, we haven't even finished training yet? We're only at stage 2 of the Training plan."

Dante stepped forward and asked Chatot. From what he remembered in the game, graduating from the Guild won't have any benefits to their team.

After leaving Wigglyltuff's guild, they would have to line up in the morning, similar to other exploration teams, to accept tasks. Not to mention, they would also lose access to firsthand information from the Exploration Federation.

"Ah, the training. As I said, the 2nd stage of training is mastering a self-boosting move. With the knowledge Uxie gave, I say it's only a matter of time before you accomplish it. And for the next steps, I'll tell you privately later. I'm sure you can complete it on your own."

"But why the rush? Can't we stay here until we've finished all our training?"

Chatot tilted his head, looking at Dante with a puzzled expression.

"Well, you're most certainly welcome to stay. But with your team's strength, I assume you want to leave as soon as possible. After all, Teddiursa won't be the last additional member of your team, is he?"

Now that made Dante stop in his tracks. Chatot was right. Sooner or later, their team would grow beyond a point suitable to stay in the guild. Instead of waiting for that day to come, graduating now and establishing their base earlier would prevent more problems in the future.

"...and? Are there other benefits to graduating?

"Of course! You can officially establish a Guild of your own, and make recruiting much easier. Most importantly, Poke taken by the guild from you completing tasks will be reduced. After graduating, you only need to hand over 10% of the reward instead of 90%."

"We'll graduate, then!"

As soon as Chatot finished speaking, Dante's earlier worries were thrown to the wind. Lining up in the morning? Having delayed information? All of that paled in comparison to paying only 10% tax instead of 90!

A/N: Starting from this chapter, I'll occasionally include some Omakes to show short scenes that I decided to not include in earlier chapters (such as this Guild Graduation.)

Thanks to one of my patrons, Leisercom, for pointing it out. If you guys also have any scenes you want to see, please don't hesitate to tell them. I may or may not implement them depending on whether it'll fit the story, but I'll certainly keep it in mind.
