I Have a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon System in a World with Pokemon

Chapter 68: Champion’s Restaurant

"I'm sorry, Shinobu! I almost dragged you into our mess."

After Pikachu's outbreak of energy, Dante and Pikachu apologized to Shinobu who was unwittingly dragged into trouble.

"It's fine, I'm just glad that Pikachu is alright."

"Pika!"

"No! I'll treat you to the most expensive food we'll find tonight as compensation."

"Geez, I said you don't have to. Hmm…how about just treating me to a place I chose? I really want to try this famous restaurant nearby that caters to Trainers."

"Huh? Are you talking about the Champion's Restaurant?"

"You know about it?

"Yeah, it's a bit famous in this area. I found out about it when I was looking for possible part-time jobs. I read that some sort of gimmick was there that especially attracts Trainers."

"Yeah! There's a system there, in which Trainers with the same number of Badges can battle each other. The loser of the match will have to treat the winner and pay for their food."

"...But doesn't it mean I won't get to treat you for dinner?"

"Hahaha, you'll just have to beat the other Trainers then, instead of treating me with money."

Seeing Shinobu's sly smirk, Dante could only smile and shake his head in helplessness before agreeing. Anyway, he is doing this to apologize to her. If she's happy with that, then it's all that matters.

As it was still early for dinner, the two of them shopped around the mall first. They bought a matching couple's t-shirt which had a design based on the difference between male and female Meowstic.

When Shinobu wasn't looking, Dante secretly bought some other things he planned to use later. This was the first time Dante felt the power of money. When choosing to shop, he doesn't need to fret as much regarding the price anymore.

He also bought Pikachu the latest phone brand available on the market. As for Azumarill's computer and controller, he had them delivered to his house.

At 7 PM, the two of them finally left the mall and headed towards the Champion's Restaurant. On the way, Dante hesitated whether to use Pikachu or Azumarill to battle.

After Pikachu integrated the Light Ball inside his body, his Attack and Special Attack stats which are 81, should have doubled and become 162. However, according to the Team Menu, Pikachu's Attack and Special Attack are only 131.

At first, Dante thought it was because the Light Ball didn't double Pikachu's offensive stat like in the games. However, when he took a closer look, he finally found the answer to something that had been bothering him a long time ago.

Why are the base stats of the Pokemon in his previous world the same as the racial limit of this world before reaching 100, but became different after exceeding it?

According to his understanding, after a Pokemon's stats exceed 100, the stats that follow will be halved but still retain the same power. In short, Pikachu's offensive stats indeed doubled, it's just the number displayed on the menu that was halved.

He wanted to see how powerful Pikachu had become in an actual battle as soon as possible. However, he was worried something similar to the mall would happen.

Meanwhile, Azumarill still hasn't had his first Trainer battle yet. With Pikachu obtaining the Light Ball, Dante is now more confident in fighting back against those who will try to use nefarious means against him.

Arriving at the Champion's Restaurant, the two of them were a bit surprised at how long the line was. Luckily, they saw another line beside it that had a sign specifically for Trainers.

After showing their Trainer ID, the two were informed that lining up here meant they agreed to participate in a battle against Trainers with the same number of Gym Badges. When they agreed, the staff asked further whether they would like to participate in a Singles or Doubles match.

Now this surprised the two of them. They looked at each other and smiled before choosing the Doubles match.

Entering the restaurant, the two were led towards a private room according to Dante's request. The two thanked the staff and made themselves comfortable before Dante released Azumarill.

"Now, which of the two of you wants to participate in the upcoming battle?"

Dante decided to just let Pikachu and Azumarill decide amongst themselves after much thinking.

Both of his Pokemon looked at each other after hearing his words, with Pikachu being the first to speak up.

"Pika-pika." (Let Azumarill do it. I feel that I still can't fully control the energy in my body. I don't want to accidentally hurt my opponent."

"Azumarill!" (Leave it to me! I'll beat them in one punch!)

"Hahaha, alright alright, no need to be that serious. This is just an entertainment match. Maybe our opponent hasn't even started training their Pokemon yet."

"Huh, are you sure you want to use Azumarill? Won't it cause you some problems?"

"Nah, it's alright. Pikachu has already grown strong enough. If they want to trouble us, let's see first whether they can take on Pikachu's Thunderbolt."

"Pikachu!"

Shinobu looked worriedly at Dante. She feels that he is becoming careless. Pikachu may be strong, but even he won't be able to handle it if they are besieged or attacked when unprepared.

Although Dante has a strong body, he is only human after all. It only takes one attack and he can end up getting seriously injured or possibly even worse!

Shinobu planned to talk with Dante about this later.

The two of them took the menu on the table and quickly ordered food for themselves and their Pokemon. While waiting, they discussed the strategy they should use for their doubles match.

Azumarill will act as the vanguard, while Accelgor will use his speed to run around the battlefield and support him from afar. For the rest, they'll adapt depending on the opponent's Pokemon and the situation on the battlefield.

After a while, it was finally their turn. The two were led to a simple closed room with a battle arena in the center. Multiple cameras were also visible hanging on the ceiling.

Dante and Shinobu took their position on one side of the arena. Opposite the two of them, there were two teenage girls. Dante's interest was aroused after seeing that the two had an almost identical appearance, just with a different hair color.

The black-haired girl among the two had a calm smile, her arms confidently crossed in front of her almost non-existent chest. Meanwhile, the other blue-haired girl was tightly gripping her Pokeball, holding it with both hands in front of her chest as she silently recited something under her breath.

A referee on the side confirmed that both sides were ready before signaling for them to release their Pokemon.

"Let's go, Shelly!/I choose you, Azumarill!"

"G-go! Marin! / Let's do this, Dragonair!"

The moment their Pokemon were revealed, both sides were a little surprised. The customers in the restaurant who were watching the screen suddenly fell silent, with some even dropping their spoons and fork in shock.

"I-Is that the Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon, Dragonair!?"

"Don't mention a Pseuso-Legendary! What the hell, that's a shiny Azumarill!!"

"Are those four young masters and ladies from some rich family?"

"I have to post this on my insta!"

The restaurant instantly became chaotic as most customers forgot about their food and stared closely at the screen. Some of the more reckless ones even planned to enter the battle room to watch the battle in person.

The staff quickly came to their senses and hurriedly stopped these people. While they may sometimes see a Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon here, it was also the first time they saw a Trainer with a Shiny Pokemon participate in their exhibition match.

Inside the room, Furina and Focalors quickly calmed down from their shock and got ready for battle. As daughters of a Champion, they are more exposed to top-level information regarding Pokemon than the customers outside.

While Shiny Pokemon are very rare, it also depends on what species of Pokemon it is. Bug-type Shinies are seen at least once a year in the market or auction sites. They'll only be flabbergasted if it's something like a Shiny Garchomp or something similar.

Besides, the real value of a Shiny Pokemon is the direction of its mutation. Cases like the Shiny Kingdra of their father, who retained two of its Abilities, were extraordinarily rare. Most of the time, a Shiny Pokemon is just able to learn a move it usually isn't able to learn.

The moment the battle began, Azumarill used Aqua Jet under Dante's command and headed towards Dragonair. He wanted to take it down first, seeing it as the more dangerous threat.

"Dragonair, Extreme Speed!"

But just when Azumarill arrived in front of Dragonair, the dragon Pokemon disappeared in a blur, his speed much faster than when Azumarill used Aqua Jet.

"He knows Extreme Speed? Now this is going to be troublesome. I'll leave Dragonair to you, Shinobu."

Extreme Speed is a Normal-type physical attack with a base power of 80. It's like an upgraded version of Quick Attack, with a much higher power and faster speed. It's a move that can only be learned by the Dragonair-line by inheriting the move from its parents.

To deal with the fast Dragonair, Accelgor who has a much faster speed is more suitable than Azumarill.

However, it seems the girl on the opposite side has a different idea. Under Extreme Speed, Dragonair appeared behind Azumarill to try and attack him.

"Azumarill, Ice Punch behind you!"

Focalors imperceptibly smiled after hearing Dante's command.

'It's useless. The reason why Azumarill isn't used much in top battles even when it has such a powerful Ability is because of its slow speed. Aqua Jet can only compensate for it–' "What!?"

Her eyes widened in astonishment as Azumarill turned his body back just in time for his fist to meet with the attacking Dragonair's head.

The stalemate between their attacks didn't even last for more than a second before Dragonair's body quickly flew back, hitting the wall of the room and making a loud sound, his body falling limply on the ground.

"D-Dragonair!!"

Furina swallowed her saliva after seeing this. Outrageous!! Why is this Azumarill so abnormally strong!!

Seeing that the opponents on the other side turned their attention to her and her Horsea, she raised her hand and quickly shouted.

"We forfeit! We forfeit! Don't hurt my Marin too!"
