Chapter 76: Introductions
"Good morning, everyone! I am Professor Alma, your professor in Ethics and Morals."
In front of the classroom, a woman with black hair and wearing a labcoat and mini-skirt stood while holding a tablet.
"Now before we begin our lecture, as it's your first day in school, we'll have everyone introduce themselves first. State your name, age, hobby, Pokemon, and your goals for the future. I'll start as an example."
"Ehem! My name is Alma Cruz and I am 29 years and 98 months old. I've been teaching at this university for 5 years now. Whenever I have some free time, I help take care of the Pokemon in the Breeder house. As for my Pokemon team, well, I'll keep it a secret for now. My only goal is to ensure each of my students can become outstanding and moral trainers."
Dante sweatdropped at hearing her age. Isn't she just 37 years old? Why does she have to insist on being 29? He doesn't get women's obsession with being over 30.
Still, everyone politely clapped. Some students were murmuring under their breath, preparing for their introductions.
After waiting for everyone to stop clapping, she pointed at a student in the first row.
"Now then, let's start with you, young man."
"Oh, um hello everyone. My name is James…"
The students began introducing themselves one by one. Some were shy and only stated what the professor asked, and some confidently shared even their personal experiences.
Since Dante and the girls were sitting in front, their turn came very soon.
"Wonderful! I hope you can achieve your dream of becoming the Gym Leader in your hometown. Next please!"
"Good morning, Professor Alma and fellow classmates. I am Focalors de Fontaine, 18 years old. I prefer to spend my free time training my Pokemon. Aside from that, however, I also enjoy accompanying my precious sister to shop for clothes. My Pokemon is Dragonair and my goal...is to surpass a certain someone."
The classroom became silent after her introduction. Even Professor Alma in front had her eyebrows raised in surprise.
"de Fontaine...are you by any chance related to the actress Furina?"
"Indeed. She is my twin sister."
"What!?"
"She's Furina's sister?!"
"I thought she looked like her, I didn't expect they were related!"
"Is Lady Furina also here in the Philippines?!"
The classroom fell into an uproar. Dante beside Focalors complained about their late reaction.
They were twins! They even had the same hair and eye color. How could they not associate her with Furina when they first saw her?
However, he knew that his classmates couldn't be fully blamed. It's like in his previous world. When someone who looks like Taylor Swift, known to live in the U.S., became their classmate in college, everyone's first thought would be that she looks like Taylor, not that she is Taylor.
"Alright everyone, quiet down! Thank you, Ms. Focalors. Please, take your seat."
Under the stern glare of Professor Alma, the chatter in the class began to die down. However, whispering sounds could still occasionally be heard in the room.
"First Dante, and now Focalors. I didn't expect two heavyweights to be in our class."
"Don't forget. Her Pokemon is Dragonair, a Pseudo-Legendary. Maybe even Dante wouldn't be her match."
"Isn't Furina from France? Why is her sister here?"
"I remember she called Dante over earlier. Look, the both of them are even sitting together. Maybe she came here for him?"
They took a look and sure enough, Focalors and Dante were sitting side-by-side. The boys began gnashing their teeth in jealousy, while the girls gushed about how the two were a perfect match.
In the front, Shinobu heard the discussion between her classmates. Her heart felt a little sour, but she quickly suppressed that feeling. She knew Dante and Focalors had nothing to do with each other; it would be irrational for her to become jealous just because of their classmate's gossip.
After that, the introduction continued. Dante, who was next to Focalors, stood up and faced everyone.
"Hello everyone, my name is Dante Zulueta, 18 years old. I spend my free time training my Pokemon and playing games with my girlfriend and friends. My Pokemon are Pikachu and Azumarill. Lastly, my current goal is to win the next National Tournament and get a quota for the Champion's Tournament."
Although there were some mixed reactions after learning that he had a girlfriend, the class didn't become as noisy as when Focalors introduced herself. Only a few of the girls began gossiping about a love triangle.
Shinobu's introduction also didn't garner much attention except for some boys giving her furtive glances.
"Hey everyone! My name is Candice Snow, and I will turn 18 this September. I love to go ice skating whenever I have the chance! Snover is my first Pokemon. With her, I plan to build the strongest Snow team in the world!"
Dante continued to pay attention to the rest of the introductions, curious to see whether there were other characters from Pokemon like Candice. However, until almost everyone finished introducing themselves, he was disappointed to find none.
When the last person stood up to introduce themselves, Dante's eyes widened in recognition.
"H-hello, everyone! My name is Kachina, and I'm 18 years old. My hobby is taking care of Pokemon, especially the ones on the construction site where my dad works. I also like spending my time there and helping everyone! My Pokemon is Drilbur which I call Twirly; I got her thanks to Mr. Colin. And umm, my goal…my goal is to grow stronger with Twirly and earn enough money and help my parents!"
"Splendid! You can accompany me to the Breeder house if you want, Kachina. I'm sure you'll love the Pokemon there! I'm also hoping that all of you will achieve your goals!"
"Now that everyone's been introduced, let's start the introductions for this course. As you know, I am responsible for teaching Ethics and Morals regarding Pokemon.
"I know some of you may think this is a boring subject, but it's essential to learn this if you want to go far in your Trainer career…"
Professor Alma gave a course outline of what they'd learn in her class, including what to do when encountering an injured Pokemon, the do's and don'ts inside the PokePortal, and important laws concerning Trainers. While Professor Alma was doing a great job teaching, Dante's mind couldn't help but begin to wander.
'I wonder what Pikachu is doing? I bet that guy is already watching from his phone again.'
Before entering the main building, Dante allowed Pikachu his request to 'explore' the school grounds. However, knowing him, he was probably excited to watch the latest drama in peace after knowing that phones are not allowed in class.
'That reminds me, I need to think of which Gym I will challenge next. I only need 8 Badges to participate in next year's National Tournament. With Pikachu and Azumarill's strength, I could probably beat any of the Gyms. Should I just challenge the nearest one?'
'There's also the issue of my third Pokemon. When Luna was transported to the PMD world, his Ability remained only one instead of becoming two. So, it's best if the third Pokemon to join our team is also from the PMD wo- no wait!'
Dante suddenly remembered the conditions Dean Ronaldo gave him when joining the university. In addition to obtaining an item in the warehouse, he was allowed to choose a Pokemon in their Breeder house.
While Dante doesn't care much about this at first, he suddenly has a thought. If he brought an egg and hatched it in the PMD world, would the hatched Pokemon also gain two Abilities like the Pokemon from that world?
If that is really the case, Dante won't have to worry about obtaining his future Pokemon!
While Pokemon in the PMD world has the advantage of dual Abilities, recruiting Pokemon in the dungeon is also a troublesome process. Most Pokemon living there are very xenophobic to the outside world. Even Azumarill, who was ostracized by everyone, still gave Dante a hard time before joining.
Of course, Dante can beat them and force them to submit to him. However, capturing Pokemon like that to be part of his team, even if they became amiable later, will still leave a bad taste in his mouth.
Looking at Professor Alma talking in front, Dante really wanted to stand up and leave right now to go to the Breeder house. Knowing whether or not it works will significantly affect his plans for the future.
However, he quickly remembered that he still had to wait until midnight before he could go to the PMD world. His face fell and he lay his head on the desk, wondering for the first time whether he should change the time he goes to the PMD world.
After the Morals and Ethics class, they had a brief period to get to know their classmates before the professor for the survival and orienteering class arrived.
Their professor is a fit, middle-aged man with black hair and a fierce expression. Different from Professor Alma, he was wearing forest gear instead of a lab coat.
"Listen up! I am Professor Berto, and I will be responsible for teaching you kids survival class! Now a question, what is the most important quality a strong Trainer must possess? You, the boy with glasses."
"A strong team of Pokemon, sir!"
"Wrong! What about you, the girl with green hair."
Shinobu, who was raising her hand, stood up and gave her answer.
"Perseverance. To never give up on wanting to become stronger."
"Wrong! Anyone else?"
Students raised their hands and gave answers such as solid theory, loving their Pokemon wholeheartedly, etc.
"Wrong! All wrong! It's to learn how to survive!"
"Trainers can only be recognized as the strong because they survived during the period when they were weak!"
"Every year, talented and rising young Trainers confidently enter the Pokemon Portal, only to never be seen again. No matter how strong their Pokemon, no matter how much they persevere, and no matter how much they know about Pokemon, all of it doesn't matter when they get lost in the woods and can't even find something to feed themselves."
"And that is what I'm going to teach in this class. To survive. Since this is only the first day, I won't bore you too much. Just remember to list down and buy all these things before the end of the month. Because every month from now, you will enter a Poke Portal under my supervision to train yourselves."
With that, the professor turned around and began writing a list of items on the whiteboard. As the list grew longer and longer, some students shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
"Alright, that's it! If you don't have any more questions, you can leave. The real class will begin tomorrow."
"Um, professor, what if we don't have the money to buy those equipment?"
"If you can't buy them, you can submit an application to the school to borrow the equipment. I'll give the request slips tomorrow. Any more questions?"
"Sir, how about the grading system?"
"Heh, grades. As long as you can survive, all of you will get the highest grades! Yes, you can forego going to the PokePortal and even skip my class. But remember."
The professor's eyes narrowed and he looked at everyone in class with a sinister grin.
"Here in this school, the other Professors and I can support you whenever you are in danger. But after you graduate? You're all on your own."
"Well then, are there any more questions? No? Good. Class dismissed!"
With that, the professor walked out of the door first, leaving everyone in the room speechless.
