Chapter 409: The Little Lion in the Incubator
Early morning.
Loud and brief squawking of birds came from outside the window.
Fang Ye got up from the bed and saw several little birds chasing and frolicking among the branches of a tree outside the window, fluttering from one branch to another, causing the branches and leaves to shake continuously.
Seeing the little birds with their Mohawk-like crests, Fang Ye smiled slightly, "So it's the adorable Red-whiskered Bulbuls."
The Red-whiskered Bulbul is easy to recognize, its most distinctive feature being the tuft of feathers standing straight up on top of its head, as if styled with hair gel. A patch of red can be spotted under its tail.
There is actually a touch of red on its white cheeks too, but it's easy to overlook if you don't look closely.
The Red-whiskered Bulbul chirped and chased around. Fang Ye leaned on the windowsill and blew a half-hearted whistle out the window, at which a few Red-whiskered Bulbuls immediately looked his way.
They flapped their wings and flew away.
After washing up, Lan Li was on the sofa, stroking Huahua, twirling its tail with her fingers, though she looked somewhat melancholic.
Fang Ye sat down next to her and asked, "What's wrong?"
Lan Li pursed her lips, "Thinking about the little lion that passed away... it really hurts my heart..."
Fang Ye picked up Huahua and casually tossed it to the ground, then gently took Lan Li into his arms, stroked her head, and tenderly comforted her, "Let's go visit the little lion later. We can also do a livestream."
Lan Li's mood immediately improved, and she nodded obediently, "Yeah!"
Huahua had been lying comfortably on Lan Li's lap, purring contentedly.
After being tossed to the ground, it opened its eyes, looking bewildered.
????
Who am I? Where am I? What's happening?
After regaining its senses, annoyed, it clung to Fang Ye's toes and bit them.
I might not be human, but you're the real dog!
...
Livestream activated!
"First!"
"Roar roar roar, I'm here!"
"Haven't seen the zoo director's livestream for a while."
"After all, it's the New Year. Everyone has their own things to be busy with during the New Year."
"My youth is back!"
"Happy New Year to the zoo director! Although the New Year has already passed."
"What's on the stream today?"
"Director, take us to see the giant pandas!"
The initial barrage of comments was sparse, but soon the barrage became more dense.
Fang Ye didn't expect that even after the New Year and back to work, there were still so many people keeping up with the livestream.
He bowed, "I really apologize, it's been indeed busy during the New Year.
I went home for the New Year and spent two days with my family. After coming back, there were a bunch of things to deal with.
By the way, I have good news for everyone, our zoo has welcomed a lot of new lives, with the birth of little lions and little wolf cubs."
The barrage of comments immediately became a flurry of "!!!!!"
"Holy crap!"
"Shocked!"
"Small lion, small lion, I want to see the small lion!"
"That's great!"
"Congratulations to the director!"
Everyone felt genuinely happy!
"I'll take you all to see the little lion now."
Fang Ye walked into the animal hospital, heading to the nursery.
The environment at the animal hospital was much better than the simple nursery where Ice Cake had been.
The spacious room was filled with soft, natural light from the windows, and the pristine white walls were adorned with operating procedures.
On the counter were essential tools like an electronic scale, a hot water kettle, and milk powder, as well as devices like a microscope. The computer had documents open, and some medications were stored in a glass cabinet.
In the middle, there was an operating table next to an incubator.
Lin Ying and another veterinarian were discussing something, and when they saw him come in, they greeted him with, "Good day, Director!"
Lin Ying also cheerfully waved at the camera.
Lan Li pointed the camera at the incubator, where three little lion cubs could be seen huddled together, sound asleep.
They had distinct black spots on their heads and lighter spots on their bodies. Piled on top of one another, each cub was lying on its side—one on the very bottom, the second on top of its rear, restlessly nudging about with its head, and the third lying on the second one's belly.
"Wow, the small lions are so cute!"
"UwU, such beautiful babies, I'm totally smitten!"
"Medic, come quick, my health bar is depleted!"
"Can I take one home?"
"They're sleeping so soundly!"
"Why do they have black spots? Are these little lions or little leopards?"
"That's how lion cubs look!"
Fang Ye opened the lid of the incubator, lifted a cub out with a tender smile on his face, and gently kissed the little lion's forehead.
The little lion cub, with its eyes tightly closed, wriggled its arms and legs and let out a feeble "meow."
It looked incredibly warm and loving.
When a little lion cub cries out loudly, it usually means it's feeling uncomfortable or getting hungry and needs milk.
Watching this scene, the netizens felt envious and, at the same time, experienced a sense of healing and emotion.
"Yan Hongxue" donated 99 rice balls, "UwU, the Director is so lucky, a true winner in life!"
"Sad Little Fatty" donated a plane, "Congratulations to the Director! Hope the little lions grow up healthy!"

"Lili Lili Peipei" donated a plane, "The little lions are too adorable!"
"Dao Zhen Bei Fang Xiu Ming Jian Wu Ming Juan Shou Tian" donated a rocket, "I was too hasty when choosing my major!"
A barrage of donations filled the screen!
After Fang Ye kissed the little lion, he put it back in the incubator and closed the lid.
Someone curiously asked, "Eh, Director, what's this gadget for? It looks very advanced!"
Fang Ye explained, "This is an incubator because newborn cubs haven't fully developed the ability to regulate their body temperature. Under natural conditions, they need the mother animal's licking to keep warm. In artificial rearing, we put them in an incubator to maintain the temperature."
Those with sharp eyes noticed the number on the device, "Wow, 34.5, isn't that temperature high? Won't they feel uncomfortable?"
"Because they were born just a few days ago, they need a higher temperature. Look at the cubs' behavior, limbs stretched out, breathing even, sleeping soundly—that's a sign of a comfortable temperature. If it were too hot, the cubs would be panting with their mouths open, crawling towards the vent, breathing rapidly."
"Strange knowledge has increased!"
"Got it, got it, but where can I find a little lion to practice on?"
"Let's group up and steal a lion!"
"Director, why not let the mother lion take care of her cubs?"
Fang Ye was silent for two seconds, then replied with some regret, "Actually, there were originally four little lions, but one didn't make it and was eaten by their mother."
"What the hell!??"
"!!!!"
"Why?"
Fang Ye said, "Well, it's mainly because the mother lion gets sensitive and suspicious after pregnancy. When the animal keeper brought in food, she ran out to check and gave our keeper quite a scare, and she was frightened herself.
It was just a minor accident, but the mother lion reacted violently. After the keeper left, she picked up a cub that was left alone and ate it. There was no helping it; we had to hand-rear the remaining cubs."
"Ahhh, that's so cruel!"
"UwU, poor little lion."
