Chapter 734 - 734 Pantheon
Chapter 734: Chapter 734 Pantheon
Song Jian had long noticed a large crowd of people at the entrance of the resort. Looking at their revealed attributes, they were all players from the Pantheon, but none of them were level thirty. Even if there were any at level thirty, they hadn’t passed the first-stage combat strength assessment.
In Song Jian’s eyes, the only one who could be considered a worthy opponent in this crowd was the God Slayer pursuing him.
After several confrontations, the God Slayer realized that he couldn’t kill Song Jian alone. The latter’s spiritual attributes were too high and his sensing ability was too strong, eliminating the chance for a surprise attack.
Without a surprise attack, no matter how egotistical he was, he wouldn’t believe he could kill Song Jian in a straight fight!
He initially thought he could use the crowd at the resort entrance to delay Song Jian and make a getaway. But unexpectedly, they slipped away faster than he anticipated, leaving him behind!
“Damn it, these guys…” the God Slayer cursed under his breath. Seeing Song Jian getting closer, he pulled out a grenade from his pocket and threw it at him.
Boom!
After the explosion, a thick cloud of smoke quickly spread, engulfing a matter of tens of meters in a few seconds.
Song Jian gently tapped his foot in mid-air and abruptly halted. Staring at the dissipating smoke, a cold smile appeared on his lips.
Among the Pantheon members, probably only the so-called Twelve Main Deities could pose a slight threat. Everyone else was just sacrificial fodder.
After waiting for a while, Song Jian turned back towards the lakeside. With the deadline for the final task approaching rapidly, he couldn’t afford to waste time battling with players from the Pantheon.
If he chased after those players, regardless of success or failure, it would slow down the task completion. That’s what the Pantheon Alliance wanted.
“Pantheon!” A murderous intent flashed in Song Jian’s eyes. He had always been focused on improving his strength, not taking alliances too seriously. After all, no matter how powerful an organization is in the game, it couldn’t affect the real world.
But after experiencing a real-life arena fight, this thought had begun to change. He noticed that the game world was gradually pervading the real one.
Not only the players but also the game items began to appear in the real world increasingly.
Most importantly, the existence of the game was no longer a secret, but something more and more people knew about.
“Alliances are important. Being a city lord, for me, may be even more important than power!” Song Jian had a vague thought in his mind. He felt as if it was his sixth sense informing him about something.
After the assassination attempt, Song Jian became more cautious. He summoned thirty blood crows, distributing them around a radius of over a hundred meters.
These blood crows were great scouts. They would detect even the smallest movement, ensuring Song Jian didn’t get caught off guard.
No more Pantheon members appeared. According to Song Jian’s thinking, his position was exposed, yet he stayed. The Pantheon should have gathered a force to assassinate him again.
However, several days passed without a sign of them, right up until the mission time was about to end.
In fact, the reason Zeus hesitated was that Song Jian hadn’t left. In several previous conflicts with the City of Hope, he never gained any advantage. The closest he ever got to success was when he was contesting the top ranking on the glory leaderboard with Song Jian. He was just 1% experience points away. Yet, in the end, Song Jian defeated him with a surprising strategy, pushing him from the throne he was about to secure.
This failure left a shadow in Zeus’s heart. He began to overthink Song Jian’s unusual behavior.
In the Pantheon Alliance’s meeting room, twelve players were seated in high-backed chairs, similar to the main deities in the Olympus Pantheon.
“Could it be a trap, with numerous minions lying in ambush?” Zeus thought aloud.
The God Slayer snorted and replied: “I’ve thoroughly scouted the area, other than him and some of his summoned creatures, there’s no one else.”
“Then can you explain why, knowing his position has been exposed, and knowing we are trying to kill him, he doesn’t leave?” Zeus turned to face the God Slayer, his face almost touching the latter’s. He fixed him with a stare and whispered: “Why is he doing this?”
“Blind confidence?” The God Slayer wore a puzzled expression, guessing.
“Impossible, he’s not like you!” Zeus sneered, straightening up. “Song Jian is confident but never blind. He may be waiting for us to find him, planning to capture us all.”
“Are we just going to watch blindly as he fights the bosses and levels up? You know that lake is teeming with Elite Level bosses. It’s a treasure hunting sanctuary!” The God Slayer sounded anxious.
“Are we lacking high-quality equipment?” Zeus asked with a frown.
“But we can’t just let him complete the city-building task. Once the City of Hope succeeds in city-building, will there be a place left for us, the Pantheon?” A half-naked, muscular man with primitive leather armor slammed his hand on the armrest of his chair, angrily roaring.
“God of War, be patient, God King surely has his reasons!” A woman in a gorgeous dress, holding a golden scepter, smiled, her eyes constantly on Zeus.
“That’s right, we should not engage with the City of Hope Alliance head-on,” Zeus said with a smug smile, nodding satisfactorily to the woman. “If they want to build their city, let them do so. Have our previous attempts to stop them been successful? No!”
“Why did we fail every time? Is it because we are weaker than them?” Zeus asked the room aloud.
“No, we are destined to become the True Gods of the entire world. All enemies shall be trampled under our feet!” The God of War shouted, standing and raising his double-bladed battle axe.
Zeus watched him. After a moment, the God of War sheepishly lowered his arm and sat back down.
