Chapter 15: Drawing Against Time
Lucien mom also knew that the targeted experimental drug had not been clinically tested and only had a probability of being cured.
She wasn't sure whether it could save her son's life.
However, she still held on to hope.
"Lucien, you should rest for now. Once you're stronger, we can talk about painting again, okay?" Lucien mom said, her voice full of concern.
"Mom, please. Just for a while! This is the only wish I have," Lucien D. Blackthorn pleaded.
"But Lucien, your body..."
"I know my limits. I'll only draw a little. It'll be fine."
"But what if—"
"If anything happens, I'll stop immediately. I promise."
Eriri couldn't understand what Lucien and his mother were saying, but she could tell from Lucien's eyes and body language how desperate he was.
Seeing him so anxious, Eriri's heart softened. Slowly, she pulled the notebook from her bag.
Lucien mom sighed. Her son had always been stubborn. She had spoiled him since childhood and couldn't bear to refuse him now.
"Alright, just for a short while. But if you feel unwell, you must stop right away."
"Thank you, Mom!" Lucien turned to Eriri. "Sawamura-san, my mother said I can draw!"
Eriri still had concerns, but when Lucien mom gave her a reassuring nod, she finally handed over the manuscript.
"Thank you!" Lucien took it with both hands.
[Do you want to use up today's 2 hours of extended consciousness time?]
"Yes!"
Lucien issued the command to the system.
Immediately, he grabbed a pencil and began sketching at an incredible pace. There was no time to fuss over panel layout or minor imperfections. Speed was everything.
His hands moved like a machine. Each line brought him closer to life.
Eriri was stunned. Lucien was drawing as though he had done it a thousand times in his mind.
Within the next two hours, he finished.
"The first volume is complete," he said, handing the pages to Eriri. "Sawamura-san, thank you for everything. I'm entrusting the publishing to you. You'll get half of any future profits as my thanks."
Eriri accepted the manuscript but frowned slightly. "Lucien, I'm not helping you for money. Just rest, okay? Thank me after you recover."
Lucien mom added, "Yes, Lucien. Now that you're done, please listen to her and rest."
Lucien didn't want to make his mother worry, so he lay back down.
"You rest now. We won't disturb you," Lucien mom said, turning to Eriri. "Let's talk outside for a moment."
"Of course." Eriri packed the notebook and followed her.
In the hallway, Lucien mom gave a gentle smile. "Thank you for being with Lucien through all of this."
"I just did what anyone would do…" Eriri replied.
Lucien mom looked at her kindly. "He's a bit stubborn, but you've handled him well. Thank you for tolerating him."
"He's fighting something huge. It's okay to be stubborn sometimes." Eriri gave a reassuring smile. "Auntie, please take care of yourself too. I truly believe Lucien will get better."
Lucien mom gently took her hand. "You're a wonderful girl. Lucien is lucky to have you."
They chatted for a while longer. Lucien mom was moved to learn that Lucien had created a full manga.
Both she and her husband had always respected their son's creativity and were glad he had something to leave behind—just in case.
After exchanging phone numbers, Eriri said goodbye and left.
Lucien mom returned to the ward, where Lucien had fallen into a peaceful rest.
---
On the way home, Eriri flipped through the final chapter Lucien had drawn.
It was rough, rushed, and lacked polish—but the emotion, the energy, the vision—it was all there.
She was confident the story would resonate.
Once home, she turned on her computer to check the contest stats.
The ranking had improved.
Title: Attack on Titan
Author: Whale

Ranking: 202/722
Her mother, Sayuri Sawamura, mentioned showing the manga to two of her friends—both industry editors. They'd been impressed and had already shared it with others.
But exposure was still limited.
"It's not enough yet," Eriri muttered.
She glanced at the other entries.
'That Time I Got Reincarnated as an Invincible Tyrannosaurus Rex'
Votes: 1,101
Ranking: 201/722
"What even is that…?"
Despite the massive view count, its vote ratio was poor—about 70:1.
In contrast, Attack on Titan had a stunning 3:1 view-to-vote ratio.
It meant readers weren't just clicking—they were deeply engaged.
That gave Eriri hope.
"If we can just push a little further, we might reach the top 50…"
A placement like that could secure a serialization offer—and with it, a shot at saving Lucien's life.
She clenched her fists.
"Let's do this. For Lucien."
