I regressed and became the Sword Ice King

Chapter 139- Trial of the Jun household 2

NORMAL POV.

'The Household of the Law….weren't these families supposed to isolate themselves from civil judgments?' The King held his chin with his right hand, while his left tapped the armrest of the throne.

A drop of sweat formed on his forehead, and he clicked his tongue quietly.

'These children are getting on my nerves.

What do they wish to achieve? And why does it seem like they were aware….'

His thoughts began to ponder greatly as he drilled in the necessary info to find a solution or an answer to his question.

'Is there a spy amongst my court? But the only people aware of this should be the Blue Rose'. His gaze darkened as a thought crossed his mind. 'Have I been betrayed?'

It may have been far from that, but he could not deny the possibility. After all, people who refused to reveal themselves before him had much to hide other than their appearance.

The thought of it disgusted him.

"Your Highness!" Fiona cried out as the three men stood next to the Jun's. "These are the Households of the Law. The Ancient Laws that we abide by. Can the throne refute their claims?"

Her question caused a frenzy among the nobles as they ridiculed her for the tone and manner in which she spoke.

Some had even begun to stand from their seats in protest.

"How dare you, filthy daughter of the Jun!"

"Your worthless existence shall not defy the King!"

"Begone with them! Execute them!".

Their words were harsh, but Fiona may have just insulted the King; why wouldn't they react as such, but the King interpreted it differently.

'Is she challenging my authority over the Kingdom? Just because of some Lawyers? How dare she?!'. He thought in his head, amused and annoyed by her words.

"Do tell, what claims are you here to foretell? You are people who have shunned yourselves for generations, so why come now?" The King asked, his gaze sharp and fierce as it landed on the three men.

Each portrayed an aura of dignity and reverence. They were of different nobility, but their loyalty towards the Law had bonded these families for generations.

The first of the Law, Thumpfrey Logan, was a middle-aged man with white hairs sticking out of his well-combed black hair, tied to a ponytail. His attire was that of a Victorian-era lawyer and his prestige was palpable from his demeanor.

The second, Micar Argona, was by far the youngest. He wore the same attire as the former, though with a deep shade of green, matching his green eyes and green hair. His age was similar to that of a man in his middle thirties, but that didn't make him any less diligent in his duties than the rest.

The third and the oldest, Lamel Winston, was a man well versed in the ancient laws. He had knowledge that had been either far forgotten or ignored, and this was an opportunity for him to showcase these laws. His appearance was riddled with wrinkles and his long white hair cascaded down his black Victorian-era lawyer attire.

For these laws are necessary to put the King in place.

They weren't partial in their decision-making, but they knew innocence when the evidence and facts were brought before them, and they stood for righteousness.

If anything, they were too righteous.

"Your Highness, please do not get displeased by our appearance. It is only right we involve ourselves in critical decision-making such as this," Lamel Winston spoke up first, his voice cracked and ancient, but it held a dignity that no one else possessed.

"This is a matter that can only be decided by me, the King; the Law does not hold criminals in high regard". The King said, with an unamused tone in his voice.

"But, your Highness, these are not criminals. In fact, the Juns have helped you resolve a great deal of trouble". Thumpfrey Logan spoke next, his dignified demeanor ever so palpable.

"What? I have an army at my command. I can take care of the devils or demons of the North without the need of these…people". The King said, his tone rushed and displeased, as the speed of his finger tapping began to increase.

"The North you say? What about the matters that are going on within your Kingdom, Oh great King?" Micar Argona spoke up next, stroking his goatee at the same time as he brought out a scroll of his own.

"....What is that scroll you hold?" The King sighed inwardly, an uneasy feeling growing from within his chest.

There was one matter that he had constantly postponed to date, and if that scroll served as a means or…exposed those same nobles he had ignored till now, there would be a serious issue.

He glanced at Dugu Jafar, who recognized his Liege's expression.

With a subtle nod, Dugu Jafar walked down the stairs towards the L.A.W.

"hand it over. I am in charge of proceedings related to this matter" Dugu Jafar instructed, as the three men turned towards the Man.

"This isn't a matter that concerns the Chief Advisor. The L.A.W. have explicit rights to announce whatever they wish to before the King as long as it does not affect the King or Kingdom negatively".

For the first time, Dugu Jafar got to hear the voice of the so-called Sole son of the Jun household.

With a slight grunt, he turned towards the boy, a piercing red glint sparkling in his eyes.

"Children speak when they are told to". He said with an even tone.

"And chief advisors are meant to act only when they are told so," Raph replied squarely, turning towards the King right after that. "Your Highness. This man is attempting to disobey the Law, and right in your presence. He is challenging your authority, please do not let this pass".

He said with a bow, and this caused a stir among the nobles present.

Who couldn't have seen that the King hinted to Dugu Jafar to act? But Raph had just made it difficult for the King to do as he pleased.

This displeased the King greatly, but he couldn't reveal his annoyance at the boy, nor could he refute the claim.

The King was weak before the Law, without actually being sovereign. Did he think he would act as he wished to forever?

"Dugu Jafar, return to your position" He instructed with a sigh, and the man begrudgingly walked back, his gaze never leaving Raph until he got back to his position.

Raph's gaze didn't waver; in fact, he felt tempted to use his ocular abilities right then on the man to hasten things further, but if he did.

'....I could get in trouble if I'm caught' He thought to himself, when he felt a nudge on his elbow.

Turning to his left, while looking down, he met the sparkling blue eyes of Morganna, and a smile grew on his lips.

'Let's wait and see….I'll surely get my chance'.

The L.A.W. stared at Raph briefly, before resuming their actions. Stay tuned for updates on empire

Micar released the ribbon that tied the scroll and opened it as he said.

"Your Highness, this contains the list of the most wanted men in the Kingdom".

'Wanted? That's a generalized term' The King thought as the uneasy feeling began to die down, but in the next few sentences altered by the man, it began to pick up again, with his eyes widening in shock.

"These are the Nobles that are actively partaking in Demon rituals and Demi-human Slavery".

His words were like a death sentence as some nobles began to sweat on their seats.

Some even proclaimed in protest at the audacity, but most were well aware of their actions, and the fear of being forced to face those actions had become palpably near.

Fear grew in their hearts.
