I Swung a Sword at Hogwarts

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Punishment and the Flying Boots

"I don't think I'll get points deducted for this, right?"

John asked sincerely, which only made Professor Snape's expression grow darker.

"John Wick, your Muggle father illegally entered Hogwarts and crashed into a very rare Whomping Willow."

Professor Snape's mouth twitched, seemingly still in disbelief that a Muggle had flown a car into school grounds.

He opened the day's Evening Prophet with a snap and said mockingly, "And apparently six or seven Muggles saw an old car flying past the post office."

This was already a breach of the International Statute of Secrecy, and Watson Wick, a Muggle, entering Hogwarts was a serious violation of school policy.

John realized this might be more serious than he thought—both Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore had been alerted.

Harry and Ron were trembling. As for Watson Wick... he finally realized he might've gotten his son into serious trouble.

"Professor, if you must punish someone, let it be me—don't make things hard for the children!"

Watson stood righteously, earning Harry and Ron's admiration—this adult seemed very dependable.

Professor McGonagall arrived with a grim expression. She raised her wand, and Harry thought she was going to turn him into a silent snuffbox.

But McGonagall simply lit the fireplace and told everyone to sit down.

"Explain."

Her tone was the same as when she caught them out of bed last year. Harry tried to defend himself: "It wasn't our fault! The barrier wouldn't let us through!"

He explained how the barrier malfunctioned, but McGonagall's lips went pale as she said coldly, "Why didn't you send an owl to inform us? I believe you do have an owl?"

Harry was dumbfounded—he just now realized that was an option.

McGonagall glanced at Watson Wick, clearly wanting to say something but holding back. This was a student's parent; Dumbledore should handle it.

When Dumbledore arrived, his usual warmth was gone. He turned to Watson Wick and said, "I'm sorry we have to meet again under such circumstances, Mr. Wick."

"It's all my fault, Professor Dumbledore," Watson said, mortified.

He sighed. "I hope I haven't caused trouble for my child?"

"Mr. Wick, if you were a student, I'd be writing to your parents. As it is, I'll arrange for someone to escort you home, and I must ask that you not speak of this incident to anyone."

That was good news—at least Watson wouldn't have his memory erased.

News of a Muggle driving a flying car into Hogwarts would need to be tightly sealed.

Dumbledore turned to John and said quietly, "John, as punishment, you will care for the Whomping Willow until it fully recovers."

Why did he have to take the blame for what his father did?

John was exasperated, but still agreed.

After all, Dumbledore was already being extremely lenient. With what Watson had done, Obliviating him and dumping him in a London alley wouldn't have been unreasonable.

"I understand, Professor Dumbledore," John nodded obediently.

Dumbledore turned to Harry and Ron, who looked like they were awaiting a death sentence.

"We're getting expelled, aren't we?" Ron said in despair.

Harry looked at Dumbledore. He replied sternly, "Not today, Mr. Weasley."

"But I will be writing to your families to ensure you understand the seriousness of your actions. And let me warn you—if anything like this happens again, I will have to expel you."

This outcome made Professor Snape look like he had just eaten an earwax-flavored Bertie Bott's Bean.

Ron Weasley aside, Harry didn't even have real family—just his indifferent aunt and uncle. Sending a letter to them was no real punishment.

What's more, Professor McGonagall had even argued that they arrived before the school year began, so no points were deducted.

Utter favoritism!

Snape was furious. John could tell just by how stormy the man looked that his "points-deducting soul" was eager for action.

Surely Snape wouldn't deduct his points, right?

He was the only Slytherin student present. Harry and Ron were Gryffindors—under McGonagall's jurisdiction.

"Well, send Mr. Wick to the station already!" Snape snapped with a sneer.

John wisely kept quiet and escorted his very-much-alive father Watson Wick to the station.

At the station, Hagrid was waiting. He waved when he saw John.

"Hagrid, thanks for coming," John said, relieved.

He added sincerely, "If my dad gets too noisy, feel free to knock him out. Thank you."

This display of "filial piety" prompted Watson to protest. Hagrid laughed awkwardly and said he wouldn't go that far.

In response to Watson's indignation, John calmly said, "I'll write to Mum."

Watson fell completely silent after that.

When he returned home, he was greeted by a letter-bearing Mrs. Wick. Apparently, Watson took a week off work afterward, claiming illness.

"So now you activate, System? Were you waiting to see if I'd get expelled?"

John muttered after sending his dad off. His Phase II mission had just begun.

He strongly suspected the system had waited to see whether he'd be expelled before kicking in.

Thankfully, things had worked out. Dumbledore wasn't Phineas Nigellus Black—if he had been headmaster, three students would've been expelled that day.

After all, Black was voted the most unpopular headmaster in Hogwarts history—for good reason.

John missed the welcome feast, so he headed to the kitchens to scavenge dinner.

The Hogwarts house-elves were honored to serve a wizard.

After getting his food, John didn't return to the dormitory. Instead, he made his way to the Room of Requirement.

After pacing in front of the tapestry three times, he entered a training room.

It had been a while since his last visit—dust had gathered.

He cleaned the room with a wave of magic, then pulled out the Tiwik Sword from his enchanted bag.

He also put on the Flying Boots. Though they looked oversized, they magically adjusted to fit perfectly.

They were so light it felt like he was wearing nothing at all.

"Feathers of a rune horse—lighter than spider silk, with an added levitation charm."

He clicked his heels, and small wings extended from the sides of the boots.

With a small jump, he soared three meters into the air, the wings fluttering to keep him afloat.

Holding the Tiwik Sword, John chanted, "I am the dragon of flame."

The runes on the blade glowed red, igniting a trail of fire along its edge.

Targets appeared in the air—giant humanoid dummies.

John slashed—clean, sharp, the flaming blade slicing through with ease.

Where the sword struck, fire ignited the cut surface.

Without using his wand, John made short work of the targets.

As the flames burned, he landed and observed the destruction.

"Difficulty mode: Hard."

The training room offered four difficulty levels: Practice, Beginner, Hard, and Master.

Practice used stationary dummies—good for testing.

Beginner included dodging targets. Hard mode summoned puppet-like attackers.

John had tried Hard before, but lacked a proper weapon to win.

Now armed, he decided to give it another go.

With his command, the dummies vanished, and five puppet-like wizards stepped out of the fireplace.

They wasted no time—immediately launching magical attacks at John.
