Chapter 79: No Trouble
While Nagisa battled Takahashi, Kouhei focused on rescuing those still trapped in the classrooms. Most students had already evacuated, but a few remained scattered in the building. He worked methodically, helping them escape one by one and directing them to the soccer field, the safest open space nearby.
His final stop was the library. He burst through the door with a loud bang, his voice echoing as he shouted,
"Is anyone here!?"
The silence didn't last long. He quickly spotted several people hiding under the tables. They must have thought it was an earthquake, judging by their positions.
"It's not safe to stay in this building!" Kouhei called out firmly. "We need to move to the soccer field—it's an open space and much safer!"
The group exchanged hesitant glances before crawling out from under the tables, finally heeding his words.
"Okumura-kun," a soft voice called out as he turned to leave.
Kouhei blinked in surprise. Someone actually knew his name? Turning around, he saw the class representative, Ichinose Hiyori. She was a quiet girl, always exuding calm responsibility. Her composed demeanor and sharp intellect had always stood out.
"Thank you for coming to help us," Hiyori said, her gaze steady. "It must've been dangerous to come back here."
"It's no trouble, Ichinose-san," Kouhei replied, brushing off her concern.
"It's more than just 'no trouble,' Okumura-kun," she countered, her voice gentle but firm. "You risked your life to save us. That's not something small." Then she smiled, a radiant expression that nearly took his breath away. "I'm really thankful."
"R-Right," Kouhei stammered, heat rushing to his face. He wasn't used to being thanked so sincerely. The others he'd helped had hurried off without so much as a word, but Hiyori's gratitude felt genuine, warm, and deeply personal.
"Let's keep moving," he said, pulling himself together. "It's still dangerous here. We need to get to the soccer field."
As they made their way through the building, they came across a student collapsed on the floor.
"A-Are you okay?" Hiyori asked, immediately crouching beside her.
"I twisted my ankle," the girl winced.
Kouhei recognized her. It was someone he'd run into earlier.
"You—"
"Ah… Senpai," she murmured, locking eyes with him.
"We'll get you out of here," Kouhei said firmly.
"I'll help you carry her," Hiyori offered.
"You don't need to worry about it," Kouhei replied, stepping forward. He bent down and scooped the girl into a princess carry. Her face turned crimson, the blush spreading to the tips of her ears.
Hiyori couldn't hide her surprise at how easily Kouhei carried the girl. It wasn't like he was straining at all.
Was Okumura-kun always this strong? she wondered.
Of course, he hadn't been. But training with Aria since moving in with Hina and the others had built his strength significantly. Though he wasn't proficient with a sword yet, his muscles had developed enough to handle tasks like this with ease.
"S-Sorry, Senpai," the girl stammered, her voice trembling. "I must be heavy."
"It's fine," Kouhei reassured her. "As long as I can get you to the soccer field safely, that's all that matters."
"I'm so embarrassed," she muttered, her voice muffled as she tried to hide her face. "To be carried like this by a senpai I admire…"
He hadn't caught the girl's name earlier, even though they had crossed paths before. She had approached him while he was eating with Hina, asking if she could join them at their table. Once he and Hina finished their meal, they left without getting her name.
As they made their way toward the soccer field, the girl spoke up. "Um, Senpai, I just realized—I never properly introduced myself, did I?" She offered a soft smile. "I'm Himeno Yui. It's nice to finally be your acquaintance, Senpai~!"
"I'm Okumura Kouhei," he replied plainly.
"I know~" Yui chimed, her tone playful.
Earlier, she'd mentioned that his name was well-known among the first years. Kouhei didn't understand why, but it probably had something to do with his closeness to Hina—the so-called Ice Princess. She was infamous for her cold, unapproachable demeanor and the frosty glare she gave to anyone who dared get too close. Yet Kouhei was the exception, the only one who had ever melted her icy barrier.
Finally, they arrived at the soccer field, where teachers were busy keeping the students calm and organized. Among them was Kyouka, who immediately noticed Kouhei.
"Okumura-kun," Kyouka called out, concern flickering in her eyes. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, sensei," he replied, gesturing toward Yui. "But Himeno-san twisted her leg."
Yui winced slightly but managed a polite nod. "It's just a sprain."
"Get someone to tend to her injury," Kyouka instructed, waving over another staff member.
A teacher approached and gently guided Yui away, leaving Kouhei standing there, ready to bolt.
"Where are you going, Okumura-kun?" Kyouka asked sharply. "It's still dangerous out there!"
"I'm sorry, sensei," he said, his voice firm. "But I have to help Nagisa-san." Without waiting for her response, he took off running, his resolve unshaken.
Kyouka watched him go, a small flicker of surprise crossing her usually composed face. So, the boy's got more strength than I gave him credit for. Initially, she'd dismissed Kouhei as a weak, unremarkable mortal. Someone like him couldn't possibly hold the weight of hope for the demon race against the Heavens.
But seeing him now, braving danger and saving lives despite his vulnerabilities, had shifted her perspective. Maybe this is why Yuuna and Hina are so drawn to him, Kyouka mused. After all, Kouhei had captured the hearts of two extraordinary women—the last Primordial Succubus and the Blood Princess herself.
If a boy like that could thaw Hina's frozen heart and earn Yuuna's affection, perhaps there was more to him than met the eye.

Kouhei sprinted back toward where Nagisa and Takahashi were locked in combat. The air was heavy with tension, the clash of their powers sending gusts of wind roaring through the space. Each collision of their blows created waves of force that made it nearly impossible for him to approach.
In his hands, he carried a shinai borrowed from the kendo club—a simple weapon, but one he hoped would be enough if push came to shove.
Nagisa was relentless, her attacks striking with precision and fury, but Takahashi's defenses were impenetrable. The dark aura surrounding him was thick, pulsing with malice, making it nearly impossible for Nagisa to close the distance.
"I hate you! I hate every one of you!" Takahashi bellowed, his voice warped with rage. "I deserve everything! All of it should be mine!"
His envy twisted and churned, consuming him like a blackened storm. Takahashi's words had become nothing more than incoherent ramblings, the depth of his jealousy so convoluted that even he no longer understood what he was fighting for.
The oppressive winds generated by his aura made it hard to move, let alone fight. Nagisa grit her teeth, sweat dripping down her brow as she searched for an opening. She needed a plan—a way to pierce through this overwhelming barrier of envy before it swallowed them both whole.
"Nagisa-san!"
Nagisa turned at the sound of the voice and spotted Kouhei sprinting toward her, his expression determined.
"Kou-kun!" she called back, her voice strained over the roaring winds.
"Make him lose his footing!" Kouhei shouted, his words barely audible through the chaotic whirl of aura surrounding Takahashi.
"What?!" Nagisa yelled, struggling to catch his meaning amidst the deafening storm.
"Aria-san told me that if you ever face someone with a strong aura, you have to make them lose their footing!" Kouhei's voice cut through the noise, somehow reaching her despite the distance.
Perhaps it was the intensity of their mutual desire—Nagisa's need to hear him and Kouhei's determination for her to understand—that allowed their hearts to connect, transcending the barriers between them.
"If you can throw them off balance, their focus will break, and the aura will weaken—or maybe even disappear completely!"
Nagisa's eyes widened. Of course—auras were deeply tied to concentration. Without proper focus, maintaining an aura became impossible. Takahashi's aura, fueled by his twisted envy, might be no exception. If she could disrupt his footing, she could strip him of that overwhelming power.
"Alright! Thank you, Kou-kun!" she shouted, her voice carrying newfound resolve. "Now, I'll finish this!"
Channeling her determination, Nagisa gathered her aura, blending it with a flicker of Kouhei's, their combined energy swirling around her fist in a radiant mix of colors. She didn't aim at Takahashi directly—instead, she drove her punch into the ground with all her might.
The earth quaked beneath her blow, a powerful tremor rippling outward. The force surged past the overwhelming aura surrounding Takahashi, reaching him in an instant. As the shockwave struck, a pillar of earth erupted beneath him, throwing him off balance.
"Agh!" Takahashi grunted as he fell, his body slamming into the ground. His head hit first, the impact leaving him dazed and vulnerable. The aura that had surrounded him dissipated in an instant, the oppressive winds vanishing as if they'd never existed.
They'd done it—his aura was gone, and his mana was effectively restrained.
Takahashi scrambled to his feet, a flicker of panic in his eyes, but it was already too late. Nagisa was upon him, her fist swinging forward with unrelenting force, ready to deliver the final blow.
