Chapter 14:
Chapter 14:
Qi Xuan’s jade pendant has been authenticated as a genuine artifact. After a thorough examination, Fang Shijing finally announced his appraisal result: “Authentic! My valuation is… five million!”
The moment this declaration was made, the crowd erupted into chaos.
“My god, a true master is indeed a master—this kind of big move is just terrifying.”
“I knew it! In the first two rounds, Master Qi was just caught off guard. How could he possibly lose to this rich playboy?”
“Even though Master Qi didn’t perform at his best today, at least this round salvaged his reputation.”
“Honestly, Master Qi found great treasures in all three rounds, proving his capabilities.”
“That’s true. If it weren’t for running into Lin Chuan, Master Qi’s performance today would have easily outshined many top-tier antique appraisers.”
“I still refuse to believe that playboy is more skilled than Master Qi. Who knows what kind of shady tricks he pulled?”
“He must’ve set this up on purpose to frame Master Qi.”
“Yes, that’s definitely the case. That rich second-gen is way too devious…”
Qi Xuan’s fans didn’t hold back in singing his praises while simultaneously throwing shade at Lin Chuan.
“Haha, what a happy accident—I just happened to stumble upon an incredible treasure. This is what skill looks like.” Qi Xuan, feeling pleased with himself, flashed a smug grin at Lin Chuan.
Lin Chuan, seeing his arrogant expression, sneered. “Some people just never learn their lesson.”
Qi Xuan scoffed coldly. “You got lucky in the first two rounds and really think that was your own ability? This round, my victory is certain.”
“Certain victory? I think you should start preparing for your streaking session,” Lin Chuan mocked.
“Hah, you won’t be around to see that happen.”
The two exchanged sharp words, neither willing to back down.
“Master Fang, how’s his jade artifact coming along? Can you hurry up with the appraisal?” Qi Xuan, growing impatient, urged Fang Shijing.
“Almost… almost done…”
Fang Shijing had only glanced at Lin Chuan’s jade artifact a few times and was already breaking into a cold sweat.
Lin Chuan’s piece was an abstract jade tiger. Its design and engravings suggested it was from the Shang Dynasty.
“How much did you pay for this jade tiger?” Fang Shijing wiped his forehead nervously and turned to Lin Chuan.
“Thirty thousand!” Lin Chuan’s response was crisp and direct.
Fang Shijing’s hands trembled so much that he almost dropped the jade tiger.
Luckily, he reacted fast and managed to grip it tightly. If this artifact broke, he wouldn’t be able to afford the compensation.
“Master Fang, if you’re done authenticating it, please announce the result quickly,” Qi Xuan urged once more, eager to reclaim his honor.
Fang Shijing sighed helplessly and finally stood up. “I will now announce Lin Chuan’s third-round result. His chosen artifact, a Shang Dynasty jade tiger, has been confirmed as authentic! My valuation is… seven million!”
The entire crowd gasped in unison.
Yet another astonishing treasure had been uncovered.
By this point, the spectators had become numb to Lin Chuan’s absurdly high-value finds.
“Seven million? He bought something worth seven million for just thirty thousand?”
“That’s a twentyfold return! Is this even real?”
“I feel like he’s cheating. How can someone keep discovering such massive treasures? This is getting ridiculous!”
“Yeah, this seems too unbelievable. I bet he worked with Zhang Mule to rig this.”
“Where’s Zhang Mule? Come out and explain yourself.”
“Huh? Isn’t that Zhang Mule? Why is he foaming at the mouth?”
Everyone turned to look and saw that Zhang Mule, the vendor who had sold the artifacts to Lin Chuan, had collapsed to the ground, convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
The shock had been too much for him.
The three antiques he had sold to Lin Chuan had cost less than a hundred thousand in total.
But now, their combined valuation exceeded ten million.
Over ten million, gone just like that.
The devastation was unbearable, and he passed out on the spot.
Qi Xuan wasn’t doing much better.
“I refuse to believe it! How could he find three consecutive once-in-a-lifetime treasures? This is impossible!”
His face flushed red with rage as he roared at Fang Shijing, resembling a beast on the verge of losing control.
Fang Shijing shook his head with a bitter smile. “Had I known this judging job would be such a thankless task, I would never have come. The jade tiger is right there. You can check it yourself.”
“Of course, I’ll check! Who knows if you two are colluding!” Qi Xuan had already lost his mind and no longer trusted anyone.
He stormed to the table, grabbed Lin Chuan’s jade tiger, and examined it closely.
After just a few glances, beads of cold sweat started forming on his forehead.
It was indeed a Shang Dynasty jade tiger.
Fang Shijing’s seven-million-yuan valuation was absolutely reasonable.
“No, this jade tiger has minor damage! Seven million is too high. At most, it’s worth four million!”
Desperate, Qi Xuan clung to any excuse he could find, nitpicking a tiny flaw in the jade tiger’s structure.
While the artifact did have some damage, it was still a Shang Dynasty relic, and a minor imperfection hardly affected its overall value.
His shamelessness had reached a new low.
Fang Shijing, deeply disappointed in someone he once admired, could only shake his head.
“Even if you lower its valuation to four million, the outcome remains unchanged. This competition was based on the return-on-investment ratio. While your dragon-phoenix jade pendant was valued at five million, its purchase price was two million. Meanwhile, Lin Chuan’s jade tiger was bought for just thirty thousand.”
Fang Shijing’s words were like a judge delivering a final verdict.
Even if Qi Xuan slashed the jade tiger’s price down to four hundred thousand instead of four million, Lin Chuan’s ROI would still be leagues ahead.
Qi Xuan stood frozen before collapsing onto the ground in despair.
Defeat.
Utter, absolute defeat.
A respected young antique master had been crushed by a notorious rich playboy.
He hadn’t just lost a competition—he had lost the reputation he had spent years building.
But what terrified him most was the humiliating punishment he had agreed to.
The very thought of it sent a bone-chilling shiver down his spine.
Ning Wenrou stared blankly at Lin Chuan.
Was this still the notorious playboy she had always despised?
He had actually defeated a young master of antique appraisal?
She still felt like she was dreaming. It was simply too surreal.
Maybe this guy wasn’t completely useless after all.
For some reason, that thought made her strangely happy.
She didn’t know why she felt this way, but she couldn’t help feeling a little pleased.
Lin Chuan, on the other hand, wore a faint smile.
But he wasn’t happy because he had beaten Qi Xuan.
A mere antique appraiser was nothing to him.
What truly pleased him was that he had successfully intercepted the fated protagonist, Qin Chao.
That was his real lifelong enemy.
Snatching the antiques was only step one.
Next, he would take Qin Chao’s women, his fortune, his lucky encounters…
Everything.
It would all belong to him!
