I Was Once Known King

Chapter 10: Against the Soulless [2]

Both Tesha and the archer declined being left behind and insisted on coming.

"Fine, but stick close and support me from behind. Also, archer girl, I haven't heard your name yet.", I said.

"M-me? It's Luna.", she said shyly.

"I wasn't expecting her to be shy like that."

, I chuckled whilst muttering to myself.

After the brief introduction, we entered the next lower floor where we were met with more skeletons and two dullahans guarding the entrance to the stairs leading to the next lower floor.

"Tch, if only these skeletons had souls in them... All of these skeletons including the dullahans are being remotely controlled through the strings connected to them.", I muttered to myself.

I calmed myself and took a battle stance, I sharpened my hands and turned it into blades using mana. As the skeletons charged at us, Tesha and Luna started firing their attacks from behind while I severed the string connected to the skeletons. With the dullahans only left, I was surprised by their sudden attack.

They both swung their sword in a synchronous manner, attacking me while other defended. They were both in sync which was highly unusual especially when it is in control rather than having its own consciousness.

"Come at me! Fury of the great Vritra!"

A dark energy shrouded my body, enhancing my physical abilities as well as my regeneration abilities.

The two dullahans continued their attacks but failed to connect as I swiftly dodged their swords with my enhanced speed. Ultimately giving me the chance to sever the strings connected to them.

"Amazing, sir Angel is so strong..", both of them watching me battle the dullahans.

"Let's keep moving!", I called for them at the back.

We slowly delved deeper within the dungeon as we defeat the guarding skeletons each time we go down.

We took our break before continuing.

"The necromancer is extremely powerful.", I said as I sat down by the wall.

"Necromancer!?", both of them said with fear.

"Why? What's wrong?", I asked confused.

"I thought we were against a lich but a necromancer!? Necromancers are calamities itself!", Tesha exclaimed.

Due to my lack of knowledge of this world, I asked both of them to tell me why necromancers were deemed as a calamity threat to the kingdom.

A long time ago, during the third epoch of the Kredan kingdom, a massive war occurred. A large army of the undead was raised to bring down the walls of the kingdom and many were devoured by its undead energy. The culprit led to a single man with deep hatred against the country, he sought forbidden magic and accumulated corpses through the years of preparation. The battle lasted for 3 months, as the kingdom of Kredan was on the brink of destruction... The holy empire of Luscencia intervened under the orders of the saintess along with the elders of the church. The war ended two weeks after the necromancer saw futility and met his end at the blade of a paladin which later was called the hero for vanquishing the necromancer.

"That's quite the story.", I looked at her with a soft smile after hearing the story.

"My family was part of the survivors that fled from the destruction of the kingdom.", Tesha said with faint smile.

"That is why we're doomed! If it's actually a necromancer, if we don't report this... Another war could happen again.", Luna says as she bawls her eyes, fearing for her life.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you two.", I reassured them before continuing.
