I Was Once Known King

Chapter 13: Path [1]

After the battle against Jean inside his laboratory, I and the girls went back to the guild to hand over the paper to Maria and explained regarding the party's unfortunate end.

"I see... It is unfortunate indeed.", she said with grief and sympathy within her voice.

"I will.. be taking a break from taking quests for now.", I said.

"I understand, please come again once you are ready.", Maria said encouragingly.

After our farewells, I returned back to my room with a serious look as I took out the skull where Jean's soul is inside from my subspace pouch and placed it on the table in front of me. The skull's eyes glowed purple before it spoke.

"You! Why didn't you just kill me!?", Jean said angrily.

"Shut up..", I said seriously.

As Jean went into silence and the tension in the room growing, I took the chance to speak.

"Is it just you here or are there others that arrived with you?", I asked.

The skull's eyes glowed purple once again before speaking.

"You're asking if there are others just like us... I'll speak since I know what skills the asura race have.", Jean said.

I closely listened

"Yes, there are others just like us players or possibly even more.", Jean said.

The shocking news left Angel scratching his head

"This is just unbelievable...", I said while scratching my head.

"And, one thing I noticed when I met with the Ossuary... is that we all accomplished the last quest.", Jean said.

"The Erdaian Sphere..", I said as flashbacks from the day when I did the final quest came.

"No! That can't be, I'm the one who discovered the Erdaian Sphere!", I exclaimed.

"Stupid runt, did you think the former rankers of the game left without even doing the quest?", Jean responded.

"What?", I said annoyed by his response.

"You won't understand anything because you're not a ranker yourself. You're just a part of the majority that finished the game's story.", Jean said.

I laid down on my bed thinking about what Jean said. I thought I had finally become something special after reaching this world.

"I won't be appearing for a while, I'll completely disappear if I expend all my necros energy.", Jean said before the skull's eye's glow disappeared.

"Hey- wait!", I shouted trying to get Jean back.

I laid back down and stared at the wooden ceiling.

"What's my excitement even for?", I said before closing my eyes.

As the next morning came, I left the Inn at an early time and exited from the empire. I planned to find the ingredients to achieve my body's physical breakthrough.

I started my long walk and entered the forest of beasts, hunting them and devouring their souls at the same time. As I continued my walk in hopes of reaching the other end of the forest, I recalled the information in my head of how I took my character to it's peak but felt hopeless as the leveling system did not exist anymore nor the power to assign stat points to your body.

I gathered the corpses of the monsters I killed and brought the skull out.

"Here, get your damn energy, this should be enough to fill you up.", I said to the skull.

Upon hearing it, the skull's eyes glowed once again as it opened it's mouth and started to suck a dark energy from the corpses.

"Thank you for the feast.", Jean said after finishing.
