Chapter 13: The eye of the dead sea And the second Mission {Fixed}

Grey left her cave, swimming through the vast, empty ocean. For seven hours, she searched tirelessly, looking for seaweed and fish. Eventually, she found some and carefully harvested them, taking them back home to plant.

However, the moment she placed the seaweed into the ground, it withered away—turning to dust in an instant.

Grey's eyes widened.

[Grey]: Death magic…?

She could see traces of dark energy lingering in the water. If the sea was this badly affected… damn.

Determined to find more answers, she swam further, not stopping even as the sun began to set. Hours passed, and just as darkness fully enveloped the sea, she stumbled upon something unexpected—a human.

A lone man was drifting in the water, clinging desperately to a wooden plank. His face was pale, and his body was weak from hunger and dehydration. Grey swam closer until she was directly in front of him.

The man lifted his head, blinking in confusion before muttering to himself.

[The Man]: This game is really messing with my head…

He rubbed his eyes and looked again.

[The Man]: Okay, Miss Sea Girl, since you're part of my hallucination, can you feed me? …Ha? Why did my Favorability drop by 20 points…? Oh. You're not a hallucination… You're an NPC?*

He let out a tired chuckle.

[The Man]: Sorry, I've been awake for two days…

Grey listened to his words carefully, and though she remained calm, she was completely shocked.

A game?

She pushed the thought aside—this was something she could think about later. Right now, she needed information.

[Grey]: Can you tell me why you're here?

[The Man]: Miss, this is the Eye of the Dead Sea, one of the most dangerous zones in the world. It's in the Eastern Sea, near the Bone Swamp and the Sea Tomb. My team and I were searching for a powerful monster—The Deep Dark One.

[Grey]: The Deep Dark One?

[The Man]: Yeah. A massive, dark creature. We never even got close to fighting it. The moment it looked at us—boom.

His hands trembled as he recalled the memory.

[The Man]: More than a hundred ships… all turned to ash in an instant. We only saw one thing—its eye. Just one of its eyes reached the sky. It blinked once—and that was it. Everything was gone.

He let out a deep sigh, shaking his head.

[The Man]: And now here I am, stranded. By the way, Miss… Can I know your name? Mine's Dave von Hellsong."

Grey didn't respond. Instead, she tossed him a large fish and a bottle of water.

[Grey]: Here. Eat. Bye.

Grey needed answers. She had to talk to the Chat Group.

But what she didn't realize was that her small act of kindness… had just shaken the entire game world.

Dave, being a high-level player, used his All-Seeing Eye skill to check her stats before she left. What he saw stunned him.

Before he could say another word, she turned and swam away.

[NPC STATUS]

Name: ???

Title: [The One Who Saw the Abyss of the Sea] [Swordmaster of the East Sea]

Species: Noble Elemental Ice Jellyfish Demi-Human of Light and Dark

Level: 50

HP: ???/???

Mana: ???/???

The strongest NPC they had ever encountered was Level 50—the Emperor himself.

Yet this girl… her HP and Mana were completely hidden.

And Dave von Hellsong?

He was a Ranker. The first in Level Rankings and the head of Hellsong Guild, a massive, multi-national guild with over two million players.

Realizing the significance of this, he took a screenshot of Grey and sent it to a few trusted friends. He told them to keep it secret.

But secrets?

Never last.

Somehow, the picture leaked. And within hours, the entire gaming community knew about her existence—the first Demi-Human NPC that wasn't an Orc or a Goblin.

And worse?

She had a Raid Boss-level presence.

The comments were like this

The forum exploded with messages:

[Cold-Big-Man | Dark God Guild]: Where is she? If I kill her, I'll get an Epic Weapon.

[Golden Queen | Only Girls Guild]: She's ours. If you want a piece, wait until we're done—then you can take the leftovers.

[Tzar of Sand | Star Guild]: A Demi-Human? She's mine. After I enslave her, I'll become unbeatable. Her beauty alone could make even the Emperor fall for her.

[Dave von Hellsong | Hellsong Guild]: Hey. Say that to my face.

The chat froze.

Dave didn't waste time.

[Dave von Hellsong | Hellsong Guild]: Find the bastard who leaked this and kick him out of the guild.

He continued:

[Dave von Hellsong | Hellsong Guild]: The Eye of the Dead Sea is under my guild's and our allies' protection. It was granted to us by the Emperor himself, If you want a piece of it, you'll have to go through me—and the Emperor."

And just like that, Grey—who had only just started exploring the sea—had become the center of the game world's attention.

Dave sighed, exhausted.

[Dave]: Why didn't I take the fast swimming skill?

Grey stopped and turned to him.

[Grey]: why were you following me

[Dave]: Why not? I've been here for three days without even seeing land

Dave muttered, shaking his head.

Grey studied him for a moment before nodding.

[Grey]: Fine, you can come with me—but first, drink this.

Gray gave him a blue potion he used his all-seen eye and saw this

She handed him a small vial filled with a glowing blue liquid. Dave activated his All-Seeing Eye and checked the item's details.

[Epic Potion of Water Breathing and Fast Swimming]

Effect: Grants water breathing and enhanced swimming speed for one hour.

His eyes widened

[Dave]: An Epic potion?! How did you make this?

Grey tilted her head, unimpressed.

[Grey]: Why are you looking at it like that? It's just a failed potion

Dave gave up questioning her and drank it, instantly feeling lighter in the water. He followed Grey, and after half an hour of swimming, they arrived at a cave. He scanned the area using his Scout Skill—but to his surprise, he could only sense Grey and some fish.

He frowned.

[Dave]: You live here… alone?

[Grey]: Yes. Look around—there's no seaweed, no easy food sources. We're near the deep sea zone. Don't go near it, or you'll die.

Dave raised an eyebrow.

[Dave von Hellsing]: The deep sea is that dangerous?

[Grey]: "Last time I went there, I saw a shark covered in thorns getting eaten by a bigger anglerfish. Their levels were at least 60 or more—and I had just entered.

Dave paled. He had seen terrifying monsters before, but that was insane.

[Grey]: Hey

Grey interrupted his thoughts.

[Grey]: Are you going to stand there like a creepy old man, or are you coming inside?

Dave coughed.

[Dave]: Right, let's see your cave.

He followed her inside—and stopped in shock. From the outside, the cave looked small, but inside, it was like a luxurious villa. He even saw…

Grey stretched.

[Grey]: Alright, I'm heading to my room. The left room is yours. If I find anything stolen, I'll kill you. Now, good night. Also—my name is Grey.

She walked off, leaving Dave standing there, speechless.

As he looked around, he suddenly felt guilty. He had been surviving off this woman's generosity. After finishing the fish she had given him, he went to his room—and was once again amazed.

[Dave]: Even my real-life body wouldn't want to leave this bed…

he muttered. His in-game character had been awake for two days—he needed rest. Logging out, he removed his VR helmet—only to be met with a ringing phone, Groaning, he answered.

[Dave]: Jon, what's going on? Why have you been calling me for ten hours?

His vice-commander's voice was urgent.

[Jon]: Leader, the Emperor was poisoned by a traitor from our guild! The Crown Prince and half the nobles have turned against us—they want him dead! We barely saved him, but we need your help now! We're holding out at Hell Fort!

[Dave]: Wait—Hell Fort? Are our allies even helping?

[Jon]: Three of them betrayed us and joined the Prince. The last one was destroyed.

[Dave]: Damn it… Fine. Move all our members to land. Even if my stats are halved from exhaustion, I'm not letting the Emperor die.

Dave looked at the picture hanging on the Wal.l

[Dave]: In this game, if you die, you lose a level… But even if I go back to level one, I won't back down.

As soon as he appeared in the game, he got out of bed—and froze.

Grey was standing in front of him.

For a moment, he forgot everything. Then, he snapped back to reality. He needed help, but… could he ask her?

Grey looked at him, then silently handed him a yellow potion.

[Grey]; This is a stamina potion. Now, take me with you

Dave blinked.

[Dave]: Huh?

[Grey]; You want my help, right? Use the Rune—I'll bring my friends. Let's go.

Still stunned, Dave drank the potion and pulled out a Teleportation Rune. He gave one to Grey, closed his eyes, and activated it.

When he opened them, they were standing in Hell Fort's command room—and Grey was right in front of him.

Dave turned to her.

[Dave]: Why help me? And how did you know I needed help?

[Grey]: You're only asking now? The answer is simple—I wanted to help. And your face told me everything.

In reality it was because of this
