The One Who Tamed Mereoleona: Chapter 5

Clover Kingdom

–Julius Novachrono–

He filtered out Marx's nagging voice from his senses as he leaned on the table, more specifically, on the pile of paperwork that the nobility tried to drown him under, just so he wouldn't have the time, resources, or the will to enact the changes he wanted to enact in the Kingdom.

"Wizard King, are you even listening? Your escapades have cost us much. Now, we must complete this pile before you can go home for the day." He looked at Marx with lidded eyes, suddenly way too tired about this whole sham. Both of them knew that practically half of the things he had to look through and sign were things that could be done by a dozen people on his staff, his very talented staff, and yet.,..

He sighed, "Fine, Marx. Let's get this over with," He knew that he had to do it, not because he had to listen to what the Nobles said about his duties but because he needed their help. So far, he had made some progress and even then, that progress was threatened by the nobles every step of the way.

If a little paperwork was the price to pay for continued cooperation, as long as they didn't do anything extreme, he was willing to do it. So far, they hadn't tried anything, not after what he had done to the perpetrators he had found for Conrad's fall.

His fists clenched at the thought, snapping the quill in half as he thought of Conrad and the fate that befell him. Even now, he can feel Conrad fighting against the Time Spell, futile as it was. He dreaded the day Conrad would be set free, the day he would have to face someone he called his senior, someone who genuinely wished for the betterment of the Clover Kingdom, someone with the potential to become the strongest Wizard King in history, even stronger than Lemiel himself.

He hoped that he would be dead by then or would have made the Clover Kingdom worthy of Conrad's vision. Both things that seemed farther and farther away as the days passed by.

"Wizard King?" The haze cleared, he looked at Marx's worried face. Smiling faintly at him, "Why don't you go take the day off, Marx? I got this."

"Are you sure, Wizard King? It is a lot–"

"Marx, I know what I am doing. Go, have fun!"

"O-okay, if you say so," Poor Marx, confused at the sudden behaviour change, left the room. As soon as his office was empty, he snapped his fingers, creating a time seal around the office. He then all but collapsed in his chair, very much tired of this. He hadn't even been out of the Capital in months now, with instability from the Diamond Kingdom borders forcing him to stay in the Capital and make regular appearances to appease the nobles as well as the citizens.

Part of him wished to rush to the border, kill Yaga, make an example out of the entire invading forces, cripple Diamond, and then return.

And yet, what would that accomplish? Nothing of substance, just sowing seeds of revenge in the future generations of Diamond Kingdom. He knew he wouldn't be able to bring himself to wipe off the entire Diamond Kingdom off the map so going there to exert his power was meaningless, even if he knew that there was nothing in that Kingdom that could even remotely threaten him.

Hell, if he let Yami and Jack loose on their Magic Knights, they would all be destroyed within a month, less if their forces stopped running for their lives. "As if Yami would ever do something like that," He chuckled at that.

It was something unthinkable for Yami, to hear of orders of Genocide from the Wizard King himself. Yami would most likely revolt and try to fight against him and as strong as that man was, he would die. There were no hard counters against his magic in the entirety of Clover Kingdom, something that made the nobles wary.

Thankfully, unlike Conrad, he had no weaknesses they could exploit. He kept minimal contact with his family, didn't show any of them any favoritism, and made sure that all the nobles knew that his post as the Wizard King didn't, in any way, increase the standing of the Novachrono house, aside from making them permanent nobles, something that they already were.

Sighing, he was about to get up and do his duty, by abusing a little bit of Time Magic, just so he could go have a stroll in the Black Market when he felt someone banging on the Time Seal. He let the spell fizzle away and let them come in.

"Wizard King, report. An emergency has occurred in the Vermillion family castle. A Vaude Family Magic Knight specialising in Long distance teleportation has been called in." The man bowed and left after giving him the report.

An emergency, huh? Maybe he should go and help them with it? After all, he was the Wizard King, responsible for the protection of all of its citizens, let alone the Vermillions who were royalty.

He grinned at that, something to relieve the extreme boredom he was having. Casting the spell once again, he hurriedly finished all his paperwork and then snapped his fingers once more, letting the spell fizzle away and also vanishing from his place, heading straight to the Vermillion Castle.

...

…..

Hmm, so something happened to Mereleona, huh? He thought to himself, his thoughts accelerated by one of his very useful spells, Thought Acceleration.

That was odd, Mereoleona was the strongest Magic Knight of the Vermillion Family, even stronger than Yami himself, one of the premier Magic Knights of the Kingdom. Something happening to her, even in the Grand Magical Zone was something that should be all but impossible, as long as she wasn't foolish and didn't venture deep into the Zone.

Also, she met someone she suspects to be of the Vermillion family and also someone strong enough to defeat her so she informed them to bring backup. His face took on a strange expression as he thought of the warning that Mereoleona gave.

She warned her family to bring backup because she realised the strength of the man and yet, she continued to chase the man who could nullify her magic? That was… actually right on point for the battle maniac that was Mereleona.

He secretly tagged along with the rather impressive party that had been put together to bring back Mereoleona. A former Captain, a current Captain, two High Level Magic Knights along with a Vaude Family Spatial Mage capable of instantaneous emergency transport. Not to mention, the Wizard King.

As they arrived in the Zone, he didn't sense anything, even with his rather enhanced senses. So, he followed them as they headed to the Mereleona's dwelling in this zone. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that it would be very hard on anyone's mentality to live in Grand Magical Zones for over 300 days per year, he would have sent every talented Magic Knight here to train because the results spoke for themselves.

Alas, Merelona was an exception in that regard.

As they reached the cabin, he came upon a very shocking sight.

Was that White Fire Magic? His eyes widened minutely as he thought of the Mage using Fire magic in the same way and ease as Mereloeona only with the Fire being White. He couldn't use his Mana Zone while locked away in the Time bubble but he knew from the reaction of the Vermillion family that they realised the situation here.

White Fire Magic, something that hadn't appeared in the Vermillion family for generations, something that made Baldric Vermillion the Wizard King with no competition in sight.

He felt equal parts excited and wary at this find because the man could become a legitimate threat to him and this Time Magic because White Fire Magic could actually reach the conceptual stage, something considered absurd because even mastering White Flames took Baldric Vermillion most of his life and that allowed him to be strong enough to become Wizard King.

But to affect concepts like Time? That was impossible in Baldric's lifetime and yet, there he was, younger than even Mereoleona and already mastered White Frie magic since he could not see any grimoire being activated.

Engrossed in his thoughts, he barely heard what Ignatius was talking to the man before his eyes widened as the man, without even looking, snapped his hand out in Julius' direction and let loose a stream of white fire. He tried to move his Time Bubble but realised that the man's Mana Zone was active, locking on to the slight hint of Mana that his spell gave off.

Okay, he was officially impressed. To be able to sense–

His eyes widened to saucers as he saw the same white flames turn blue. He actually felt his time bubble give out from the strain before he dispelled it and flashed out of the way of the very dangerous and unexplored blue flames.

With stars in his eyes, he immediately approached the man, badgering him with questions, making sure that the clearly very dangerous man's attention was on him and not the Vermillion family members who could be taken hostage at any point.

This little stroll had clearly turned out to be more dangerous than he had thought it would be.

Marx would be so pissed this time.
