The One Who Tamed Mereoleona: Chapter 8

Clover Kingdom

–Ignatius Vermillion–

Yes, one of the biggest priorities for him was to make sure that Mereoleona didn't end up all alone because of her tendencies. At each and every noble party she went to in her teenage years, she loudly proclaimed that only the one who would be able to defeat her in the same age group would have the right to marry her.

Now, Ignis' age was a bit iffy at the moment but his face was young, which was something that he could use in his defense. Though he had to be careful about this, Ignis could turn out to be a threat to the kingdom and he didn't want to do anything that could exacerbate the problem for Julius.

He had to be slow and steady with Ignis. First, he should at least come into the Kingdom. The next step would be integration into the Crimson Lions, then the Vermillion Family, and before he knew it, Ignis should be an official member of his family.

Well, if things went according to plan, that is.

"You go ahead, I will join you in the library. I have a few things to discuss with your mother before we can make any major decisions,"

Fuegoleon looked a bit confused but nodded nonetheless.

He excitedly entered his office where his wife was working on some paperwork, she liked to do that in her downtime sometimes, despite not needing to.

...

….

"Grandbabies!" There was a high pitched squeal in the office after a few minutes as the Vermillion Family Matriarch straight away began imagining grandbabies of all sorts.

–Ignis Vermillion–

"You know, sometimes I think that I've gone crazy," He said to Homura as he laid on Homura's back, the fire and the scales not hurting him since Homura was his buddy, his only buddy, as sad as that was.

He only had a couple of friends in his life and all of them save for Homura here were dead, which was sad, one of the many reasons he thought he had gone insane. Chewing on the meat of a Fire Boar he had hunted and roasted using spices he got from the heart Kingdom, he thought about the encounter and what the world wanted it to lead to.

Homura's only response to his introspection was an eye roll before he dug into his pile of meat, which was just a Fire Wyvern. Homura didn't really need to hunt and eat as much because he was a mana creature and could simply subsist on the surrounding Mana, especially since Homura learned the Mana Zone technique, courtesy of yours truly.

He didn't mind Homura's antics because despite learning advanced Mana techniques and overall being a much more intelligent Mana creature, he was in the end still a mana creature, uncaring and unfeeling of the various social complexities that normal humans had.

All these years later, he still had that spark of curiosity within him, the urge to read, to learn, to grow.

"I guess that's why this whole not progressing thing bothers me so much," He muttered to himself as he finished his meat skewer. He had been perfectly content staying hidden as he advanced his magical prowess in the Grand Magical Zones that he could find. He was fine being alone as well, even as he struggled sometimes to clear the Grand Magical Zones, the water one was particularly hard when he hadn't advanced as much as he did about Pure Mana manipulation.

Seriously, how did the Elves go extinct if they were so powerful would forever be beyond him. Yeah, he knew that their human allies betrayed them but even back then, humans were not as strong as they were now since they had not stolen the Elven Mana and Elves were the most powerful species back then so how did they even lose?

Even if they were caught by surprise, the Elven leader was supposed to have powers rivaling that of Lemiel Silvamillion who was also on the Elves' side, so how exactly did they still lose?

As far as the legend went, Lemiel died fighting the Ancient Demon whose skeleton was still on the fringes of the Clover Kingdom but that didn't add up. If Elves were killed by humans and then Lemiel had to fight the—-

His thoughts were interrupted as his left hand shot out, to catch the huge rock that Homura had dug up and thrown his way. Obviously, holding onto a rock that can fit into Homura's mouth using sheer physical power was straining so he was using his Mana manipulation to reinforce his body. Throwing the rock behind him, he locked eyes with Homura who was actually…pouting?

He rolled his eyes at that, "Alright, you overgrown baby, I will get the ball."

Yes, that was the ball and he was going to play fetch, a game usually played between a dog and its owner, with Homura, the Fire Dragon of the End, the slayer of a Wizard King, a Magical Fire Dragon on par with a Spirit, allegedly.

"Here you go!" He threw the rock as far as he could, which was pretty far as Homura flew after the rock. He had used subtle Fire mana to make it rocket away farther, giving him more time before Homura came back to nag at him for attention.

Sometimes, the Dragon was like a lazy cat, and sometimes like an overexcited puppy. He switched it most of the time, depending on the meal, naptime, and well, him.

Well, he had fought the Earth Spirit back in the Heart Kingdom, well, deep into the Heart Kingdom where the Water Spirit had given refuge to the Earth Spirit. He had stepped into the Heart Kingdom after going through a Water Mana current zone and was very much drenched in cold water, which he absolutely hated.

He then used his powers to create somewhat of an abode for himself since it seemed a good place as any to make his base since he was a nomad, drawing the attention of the then Queen and the Spirits. Long story short, he ended up fighting the Earth Spirit since Earth was pretty weak to fire and he had always wanted to test himself against a Spirit, one of the many ways that he knew of, to advance one's magical prowess.

Well, he did lose but only because of the time limit and the limit to destructive magic he could bring to bear. But the thing that stuck with him the most after that battle was the sheer utility of Gnome's magic. The spirit could restore the landscape which had turned into an area littered with craters that were on fire, into flat fertile land that could be tiled with ease, or to be used to plant forests.

Gnome's magic was incredible and he wanted to learn more about it but he was told, in no uncertain terms by the then king, that he was not welcome in the Kingdom so he packed his bags and left. He left but his mind was on that mana manipulation and how the same element can be used for multiple roles, leading him to Elysia where Dryad taught him many things.

Being one with nature meant that he had delved deeper into his Mana and could cast spells of all calibres. Healing spells, Movement spells, binding spells, and even cooking spells came to him as his half Grimoire filled itself with more utility spells than combat oriented spells, which was honestly fine for him since he liked it that way.

"Oh, already?" He muttered as he felt Homura returning, with the stone no doubt already half molten. The damned dragon could not control its output when it was excited. It didn't affect him but everything around Homura was destroyed whenever he got too excited. Thankfully, he had his always on Mana Zone which protected his meagre belongings, otherwise, he would be walking around naked here and for a man of his age, that was shameful.

It had been a few days of doing the same with Homura here. He meditated, ate, slept, played with Homura, and then meditated some more.

It was…nice because he got to relax a bit.

Ah, speaking of relaxation, he sensed the two people hiding under a spell, the same as the Time Magic from last time, a bit outside the official boundary of Homura's lair. No such thing existed but he made sure that a literal ring of fire existed around the stone lairs that Homura called his home.

He separated the ring of fire right in front of them, giving them the go ahead to enter the lair.

Just in time too, because now Julius made the Time Sphere visible to him, as Homura landed on the ground, holding the now sludge of a rock, glaring down at the intruders in his home.

Homura was probably going to blast them with his fire but that wouldn't work on the Wizard King so he simply waved his hand at the dragon, which created an invisible impact that had Homura jerking back.

"Go inside your cave. I'll call you when I am done," Homura roared defiantly at that, molten rock flying from his mouth since he didn't actually have spit or internal organs anymore. He was pure Mana now.

"Don't make me send you flying," He waved his glowing fist at Homura who got the message and entered the largest cave in the lair, purposefully jostling the walls of the cave as the entire lair shuddered under the impact.

Then, he turned to the Wizard King and the person with the Dark Magic he had knocked out back in Hage Village.

"What can I do for you people?" The backdrop must have been insane as Homura chose that exact moment to blast him and the people in front of him with enough fire to drown the entire area in fires.

He deadpanned at Homura who snorted fire and went back into his lair.

"You will pay for that later, you lizard. I might have to make you grow skin just to turn it into my hide. I am sure Dragonhide will sell for a lot." He grit out.

In the cave, Homura shivered all over as it snuggled deeper into itself, growling at the incoming threat.
