Chapter 1430: You’re Not Going to Be a Lover, Are You?
In less than an hour, Song Heng had delivered Xia Chuqing to the airport.
Song Heng stopped the car and patted Xia Chuqing's cheek: "Hey, girl, wake up, we're here."
Xia Chuqing smacked her lips and glanced at Song Heng: "That was quick?"
"What sweet dreams were you having that you didn't want to wake up from? You seemed very happy," Song Heng said.
"No, let's get out of the car," Xia Chuqing denied.
After hopping out, Song Heng took her suitcase out for her and they walked side by side toward the departure hall.
The airport was already bustling with people coming and going in the early morning.
Song Heng grasped her arm: "Don't get lost, keep your eyes on the road."
"I'm not a three-year-old, besides, I've traveled abroad more times than you have," Xia Chuqing argued.
"Oh, really? Are you sure you've traveled more than me?" Song Heng laughed.
"Let's not discuss this now. I'm about to leave. Is there anything you want to say to me?" Xia Chuqing purposely asked.
"Something to say..." Song Heng pondered for a moment, "Oh, our romantic relationship is over, huh."
"I get it, I get it, it's like I've suffered a great injustice," she replied.
"Indeed, I've never been this genuinely involved with Yingying." This time, Song Heng brought up that woman on his own, "Forget it, forget it, thinking that I won't see you for another half year, I won't hold it against you."
"It's just half a year, right? Study hard, don't fail your subjects, don't get into fights, stay out of bars, come home for the New Year, I'll say good things about you to Uncle Song."
"I know, I know, you're nagging more than my mom," he responded.
Xia Chuqing laughed without saying a word, but her eyes involuntarily scanned the crowd.
Many people, many pieces of luggage, all carrying a trace of weariness in the early morning airport.
"Looking for someone?" Song Heng waved his hand in front of her eyes.
Xia Chuqing lowered her head: "No, just seeing if it's crowded."
"Is that so? I always feel you've been distracted lately, with my years of emotional experience, could it be that you've taken a liking to someone?" Song Heng asked what he was thinking.
"Exactly, I've fallen for you, aren't you surprised?"
"Surprised... maybe, but pleased... not really," Song Heng feigned a scared expression.
"That's not true," Xia Chuqing vehemently denied, yet her eyes couldn't help but fall upon the crowd again.
Unfortunately, no.
The last time she saw him, which might also be the last time in this lifetime, remained in that purple Lavender Field.
When you think about it, it's not so bad...
At least, the Lavender Field was the most beautiful scenery she had seen this year.
The question she asked remained unanswered, the person she was waiting for didn't show up.
"Xia Chuqing!" Song Heng called out, "I always feel like you're hiding something from me!"
Xia Chuqing patted his shoulder and withdrew her gaze, smiling: "Don't overreact, those who don't know the story might think I did something to you."
"You're really not going to tell?"
"No."
"Really nothing?"
"Really nothing."
"I'll trust you this time, but if I catch you in the future, you're not going to get off easy," Song Heng threatened her.
Xia Chuqing looked at Song Heng and knew he was serious.
Song Heng would tell her everything, but she had never whispered a word to Song Heng about her and Xiao Mo...
Song Heng suddenly remembered that time in the library, the occasion when she cried.
He frowned: "Xia Chuqing, was it because of that guy?"
"Which one." Xia Chuqing's gaze drifted, her tone indifferent.
"The one I met at the entrance of the library, the time you called me to bring you an umbrella. I did wonder how your cellphone ended up with him, didn't think too much of it then, but now that I think about it...something's fishy," Song Heng said, eyeing Xia Chuqing with suspicion.
Xia Chuqing no longer planned to hide things from Song Heng, after all, he was a buddy she had grown up with and there was nothing wrong with sharing her troubles with him.
Besides, if he really went to France, the two of them would have to mention it sooner or later.
"I'll tell you, but you can't tell my parents," Xia Chuqing pouted.
"So there really is something, you think you can hide anything from my eyes?" Song Heng began to look pleased with himself.
"Alright, I'll tell you," Xia Chuqing steadied her box and hopped on to sit on it.
Song Heng stood beside her, and they looked like a couple, speaking as if they were lovers whispering sweet nothings.
"Some time ago I did start to like someone. He's already been working for several years, eight years older than me," Xia Chuqing said lightly.
"A thirty-year-old man? Married, isn't he? You haven't become a mistress, have you?" Song Heng's eyes widened in shock.
He knew Xia Chuqing was a good girl, but once a good girl gets stubborn, she becomes scarier than anyone else.
"No, he's not married, but he doesn't like me," Xia Chuqing said. "I confessed to him, but he told me he only sees me as a little sister."
"Oh, I get it, so it's the guy who was standing outside the library back then?"
"That's him."
"He looks kind of familiar..." Song Heng thought for a moment.
But Song Heng, who hardly ever spent time at school, certainly wouldn't recognise Xiao Mo.
Xia Chuqing had no intention of bringing up Xiao Mo's name, and just chuckled nonchalantly: "He's a bit handsome, probably looks like some celebrity."
"What happened after that?"
"What could happen after that? Once someone has said that, can I still cling desperately?" Xia Chuqing said. "There was no 'after that' then."
"You're lacking in tenacity, giving up just like that from a few words?"
"As if I could be like you," Xia Chuqing retorted. "I'm not as thick-skinned as you, plus you don't know him. When he says he's not interested, he truly isn't."
"Don't lose heart, after all, that kind of man must have a lot of women chasing him, maybe... you don't stand a chance."
Xia Chuqing glared at him, "Is this how you comfort someone?"
Song Heng laughed, but what he said was the truth. He had seen that man, and he really was good looking.
Mature and composed, the very picture of a career man.
A thirty-year-old man is most charming. He's seen all types of women, how could he fancy Xia Chuqing, a young girl who's still wet behind the ears.
"It's okay, don't think about it. Find someone better in the future, and you'll feel balanced," Song Heng said, "Don't take it to heart, definitely don't be serious. If you're serious, you lose. Understand?"
However, Song Heng knew that this might have been the first time Xia Chuqing had liked a man, and forgetting him could really be difficult.
"I won't take it to heart," Xia Chuqing stated lightly.
"That's the right attitude." Song Heng patted her shoulder, and they chatted happily.
From Xiao Mo's perspective, they seemed even more like sweethearts whispering closely.
The coffee tasted a bit bitter. He sat quietly, took a sip, but could not bring himself to drink more, just staring in the direction of Xia Chuqing and Song Heng.
He wasn't sure when he had arrived, it seemed... before dawn.
The aroma of the coffee constantly drifted to his nostrils, his eyes grew sharp, harboring an indiscernible depth and an enigmatic solemnity.
