I'm A Great Pirate, And You Say I Just Set Sail?

Chapter 40: Chapter 40 – Believing He's Magnus? You Might as Well Believe I'm a Marine Admiral!

It wasn't a fake—it was the real deal!

The moment Iron Hand Jode felt that beast-like, terrifying pressure coming from Magnus, he no longer had any doubts about the man's identity.

Even his own captain, Jason the Undying, had never emanated such a terrifying aura.

There were differences between pirates—

And even among great pirates, there were levels.

In that moment, Jode understood this truth more deeply than ever before.

"W-White Wolf Magnus!?"

"Yeah, that's me."

Magnus looked at Jode calmly. Even though they were roughly the same height, to Jode, Magnus's gaze felt like a giant looking down on an ant.

"So, do you want to live or die?"

Hearing that calm voice, Jode's throat went dry. Whatever sliver of hope he had instantly vanished.

"L-live…"

"Good. Take your arm—and go bring your captain to see me."

Magnus didn't even seem to move, but Jode suddenly felt a gust of wind blow past him. And then—he saw the terror in the eyes of the remaining pirates around him.

His arm?

It was only then that Jode noticed—he'd lost all feeling in his arm.

He turned his head—only to see an empty shoulder.

The arm he had always been so proud of—was gone.

"Aaaaargh!!"

When the other pirates saw that a 50-million-Beli pirate had lost an arm in a single exchange, they looked at Magnus in horror.

But what truly terrified them wasn't just the severed arm—

It was the massive cleft that now ran through the town—

Magnus's attack had not only severed Jode's arm—it had split three entire streets in two.

The gash cut across half the port town.

"Oh, right. Not just your captain—call the other two as well. There are way too many pirate flags flying in this town."

Magnus looked down at the kneeling Jode, who was clutching his stump, gritting his teeth and gasping for breath.

This island—Magnus had fought tooth and nail to conquer it over a decade ago.

And yet, years of neglect had let others take over.

If Magnus had truly retired, he could've let it go.

But now—he was preparing to rise again.

And that meant reclaiming every last piece of what was once his.

Originally, he hadn't planned to deal with these local thugs so soon.

But since they were the ones who came knocking—

He saw no reason to hold back.

"Let's head back," Magnus said.

"Aren't we going to the underground market?" Ripley asked.

"Among the three pirate crews that've taken over this place, at least one of them is running the black market. We'll just tell them directly."

Even though Magnus had spent six months in Elbaf, half a year wasn't long enough for the seas to change completely.

And the flags currently flying over the town? Magnus recognized all of them.

Jason the Undying

Dukeman the Black-hearted Merchant

Moz the Ogre

Their bounties, a year ago, were:

Jason: 120 million Beli

Dukeman: 115 million Beli

Moz: 138 million Beli

Of course, that was a year ago.

Magnus didn't know if Dukeman or Moz's bounties had changed since then.

But any pirate worth over 100 million Beli was well-known in the New World.

A year ago, Magnus wouldn't have easily taken them all on solo.

But now—

"Perfect timing. Looks like Rock's fight is wrapping up too."

Magnus turned to glance toward the Black Pearl.

—Earlier—

While Magnus and Ripley were dealing with those lowlife pirates in town, Rocks and Newgate had fallen into a difficult battle.

"Oi oi, you two planning to just keep hiding?"

With a casual shot, a pirate from the Red Heart Pirates blasted a hole in the deck of the Black Pearl. He and his men strolled across the ship like cats toying with mice.

"Heh, we're only after the stuff on this ship. Don't really care if you two brats live or die."

Their captain, Bennett, waved another ship over to prepare to tow the whole thing.

"Tch. Only an old fossil would sail on a ship this ancient."

He clicked his tongue, annoyed. If he'd known the ship really only had three people aboard, he would've just taken it immediately. No need to send in those kids first and swoop in afterward.

As for the pirate flag hanging on the mast?

Believing that old man's really White Wolf Magnus? Might as well believe I'm a newly appointed Marine Admiral!

"Let's hope they don't disappoint me too much."

—Inside the ship—

Rock's face was serious as he watched pirates approaching the cabin.

If it were just the captain, he'd have already taken the guy down.

But there were several enemies with decent strength. If he failed to finish them in one blow, he'd be surrounded and overwhelmed.

Pirates didn't care about fairness or honor.

"Hey kid, you still breathing?"

Rocks nudged the hulking Newgate, who was curled up beside him.

"Yeah," Newgate muttered.

He glanced toward the deck. His friends—still lying unconscious after being defeated—hadn't moved.

"Distract them for me. I'll take them out."

These pirates saw them as harmless kids.

That was their mistake—and their opportunity.

"Why should I help you?"

Rocks grinned.

"Because I saved your life. That means it belongs to me now."

Though Newgate was still just a kid, Rocks had already sensed the potential in him. More than enough to be a good decoy.

"Stick with me!"

With a roar, Rocks lunged toward the Red Heart pirates.

At that moment, the pirates were too busy drooling over the treasure in the cabin to notice.

Though the gold and jewels had all been shrunk by Ripley's powers, the sheer quantity was overwhelming. Even miniaturized dozens of times, it still filled a corner of the cabin.

"Boss, we've hit the jackpot!"

A pirate gripped a handful of jewels, eyes glittering.

Sure, each piece was barely bigger than a mosquito's leg, but there were so many that it hardly mattered.

And they hadn't even noticed the luxury goods stacked nearby—items so elite that only Celestial Dragons could afford them. If even a little of it hit the market, nobles would fight each other over it.

Not that any of these low-level pirates would even recognize them.

At that moment—

Rocks appeared silently behind one of the Red Heart pirates.

Drawing the short blade at his waist—

With a single slash—

One pirate fell.
