Chapter 14: CHAPTER 14: Before the Storm
[Scene: Varos – Upper Watchtower – Night Before the March]
FX: Wind whispering over ancient stone, distant chanting in the temple halls 🌬️🕯️
[Visual: Elara stands on a balcony, her soulblade hovering beside her — not held, just… following her, as if alive.]
[Kaelith] (stepping up beside her):
"We leave at dawn."
[Elara] (nodding, eyes distant):
"He's already watching. I can feel him every time I close my eyes."
Elara (thinking):
"Lucien is no longer a man. But I'm not quite human either."
[Kaelith]:
"You're calm."
[Elara]:
"No. I've just made peace with whatever happens next."
He hands her a folded cloth — inside is her old cloak, stitched and restored.
[Kaelith] (quiet):
"I kept it. Figured you might need it for tomorrow."
[Elara] (smiles faintly):
"I'm not that girl anymore."
[Kaelith]:
"Maybe not. But she's still part of you."
[Scene Shift: Temple of Forgotten Names — Midnight]
[Visual: An old sanctuary buried in the lowest chamber of Varos. Candles float without flame. A mirror sits at the altar, but it shows no reflection.]
[Auren waits outside the door, arms crossed.]
[Auren]:
"Someone came down here an hour ago asking for you."
[Elara] (frowning):
"Who?"
Auren opens the door.
Inside stands an old woman, hunched, with glowing white eyes. She holds a silver pendant — the same shape as Elara's old soulmark.
[Mysterious Woman]:
"You don't remember me."
[Elara]:
"No… but the way you're shaking, you remember me."
[Mysterious Woman] (softly):
"I was your nurse. The day they took you."
FX: Flash — a memory hits Elara like a shockwave. ⚡
[Memory Visual: A four-year-old Elara, laughing, holding a wooden sword. A pair of royal guards grab her. A woman screams her name — "Lira!" — before being dragged away.]
[Elara] (voice trembling):
"…My name was Lira."
[Woman]:
"Yes. Before the chains. Before the ritual. You were Lira Thorne. Daughter of the skyborn."
Elara (thinking):
"Not a weapon. Not a relic. A child once, with a name and a future."
[The woman places the pendant in her hand.]
[Woman]:
"It was your mother's. She died trying to stop them from taking you."
[Scene: Outside the temple — Kaelith watches through a crack in the stone]
He sees Elara — knees on the floor, holding the pendant to her chest.
He doesn't interrupt.
[Later — Elara walks out, face unreadable, but her aura different.]
[Kaelith]:
"You okay?"
[Elara]:
"No. But I remember now."
She ties the pendant to the hilt of her soulblade.
[Final Montage – As Dawn Breaks]
[Visuals in slow motion, anime-style:]
Auren addressing rebel generals, red banners unfurling
Elara sharpening her blade with glowing runes
Kaelith whispering a prayer to no god
Citizens of Varos placing blue lights in the streets, silently watching their protectors prepare
[Elara] (voiceover):
"Lucien believes he's rising above fate."
"But fate isn't something you escape…"
[She turns toward the camera, cloak flaring in the wind.]
[Elara]:
"It's something you choose to rewrite."
