Chapter 30.1
Isaac already knew.
That the other candidates were hiding near the second gate.
But they must be Saint candidates, surviving his tricks and somehow managing to follow him.
And all those kids were nobles, receiving elite education from their families and the Papacy.
They would have learned how to manipulate people from a young age, how cunning they must be.
Ah, the sprouts of priests he wanted to tear apart.
So, Isaac made it look like he was using the ring on purpose when he got rid of the gatekeeper.
If there was anyone among them with a brain, they would think:
Ah! The reason that brat could avoid traps and trials was all thanks to that ring!
Especially since the item was something only Isaac had brought in. Naturally, it would attract attention.
He used that attention to his advantage.
That’s why he deliberately kept doing things that stood out in the 1st vault.
He knew the 2nd vault was full of traps too difficult for a kid like him to handle… Bullshit! These deceitful chicks, even aiming for the physical body of the Skeleton King?!
‘I’ll grind you all up at once!’
Well, thanks to the uniformly red kids, all the mine-like traps in the 2nd vault were gone.
And he had anticipated that only half of the followers would remain.
But what he hadn’t expected was the look in those children’s eyes.
Glowing.
“…”
Isaac, who had entered the 2ndvault, was sweating profusely.
The back of his head stung.
Isaac, leaning on Shuri, watched the kids following him.
‘What’s with that look.’
It’s one thing to follow him, but why are they looking at him so intensely?
But the kids looking at Isaac had sparkling eyes.
“There must be something miraculous about that kid!”
Miraculous, were they all in some cult?
“Is it because he’s from a family of Saintess?”
No. They are perverts who know nothing but how to turn the Demon King into jerky.
But it was a natural reaction for them.
“He managed to get all of us even though he had the ring. He boasted that he had his ways, told us to follow.”
“I thought the ring thing was too much. It seems like just a blessed antique.”
“I never thought Eshua would do such an unfair thing.”
“Right. Eshua is so honest and upright.”
“But that means he defeated the gatekeeper of the 2nd vault, right? How could a kid like that be capable of exorcism?”
“It’s possible! He’s Eshua!”
“Yeah. That kid must be upright like Eshua and the Saintess, serving God faithfully…!”
Amidst the admiring looks from the kids, Shuri was flabbergasted.
Well, no need to correct them, just listening in silence.
What?
Upright? A servant of God?
This kid?
‘Does he tear off heads at the sight of the gods’ dolls?’
Shuri’s gaze went to Isaac, who was smiling perversely.
Whenever the servants brought the dolls of the gods, Isaac, as if possessed by some deep emotion, caused a scene by ripping their necks off.
-Dayayaaa (It’s not like these bastards are that good-looking)!!!
It was all hidden by him, fortunately.
Anyway, that wasn’t important.
A child, about six years old, approached Isaac.
“If there is a Saint, it would be someone like you.”
“!”
The clothes were unfamiliar, and for a Saint candidate, he was flashing too friendly a smile at a competitor.
“Daya (What is it, this bastard)?”
At Isaac’s rotten look, Shuri frowned as if he understood.
“…He’s asking who you are.”
“I’m the prince of Julius.”
At that, the other candidates stirred.
“Julius is the kingdom to the east of Hella!”
“So the prince there received the God’s blessing…”
Isaac let out a hollow laugh.
Ah, was it this kid? The idiot who said he came from the neighboring country?
“Honestly, I’m confident in my saintly abilities, but I don’t think I have the potential to become a Saint. I’ve come to find the Skeleton King’s physical body and to see who will become the real Saint.”
Huh, are you also coveting my body?
Almost certain, the young prince’s eyes sparkled with admiration as he looked at Isaac’s hair color.
“Platinum hair is a symbol of Hella’s ancestors, right? Like the first Emperor and the first Pope! It’s a color that hasn’t even appeared in the Papal family for thousands of years! If someone with the color of the great ancestors has appeared, hasn’t the Saint already been decided? It’s direct evidence of being blessed by God!”
At these words, the children somehow looked horrified. They were nervously checking to see if Kina Berit was around, their faces turning pale as if they’d heard a taboo.
That’s when it happened.
Boom!
As they were almost at the door leading to the 3rd vault, gatekeeper-like dolls emerged along with a pillar of light.
[Welcome. The 3rd vault is the Vault of Reflection.]
The children cheered.
It would have been their loss if Kina Berit appeared and sparked a dispute.
“Great! We can go to the next vault!”
“I’m glad I followed this kid instead of Naiser!”
“The Skeleton King’s body is ours!”
Isaac’s face tensed.
Just leave the Skeleton King’s body alone!
However, the porcelain dolls resembling angels slammed their spears on the ground.
Boom!
[If you want to go to the 3rd vault, you have to destroy us.]
[We will see your courage and determination for the challenge!]
“Oh yeah! It’s not hard!”
Clearly, the 3rd vault might be a test of courage.
Everyone prepared to use their attack techniques, confident.
But then.
“Daya (stop)!”
“!!”
The children flinched at Isaac’s shout.
He had avoided all the traps from the 1st vault. They had no choice but to focus on every single one of Isaac’s movements.
“What? Did you figure something else out?”
“B-be careful. It might be a trap.”
And seeing that reaction, Shuri narrowed his eyes as he looked at the angel statue.
‘Yes. It’s a trap.’
Shuri had secretly heard about the structure of the treasure chamber from his father.
Those angel dolls might look like gatekeepers of the 3rd vault, but well.
‘It’s a lie.’
If the 1st vault is the Vault of Choice and the 2nd is the Vault of Composure, then the third is the Vault of Reflection.
They shouldn’t have simply overlooked the word ‘reflection’ that those guys mentioned.
The emphasis on the word ‘reflection’ before leaving the 2nd vault was a hint.
Recall what happened in the 1st and 2nd vaults.
‘In other words, don’t judge by appearances.’
