I'M IN MARVEL

Chapter 47: CHAPTER 47

c47Wanda, the Candidate for the Supreme Mage Corps

In Russell's conception, three candidates are considered for the position of Supreme Sorcerer Corps, ranked in order:

1. Stephen Strange, Doctor Strange

2. Tony Stark, the Mage Iron Man

3. Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch

Russell originally believed that, with his exceptional perception of energy flow and his innate ability to grasp almost any form of magic instantly, guiding these three to become powerful wizards would be a relatively simple task.

However, the reality was not as straightforward. Due to the distinct ways in which magic is cast, Russell's teaching skills fell short of expectations.

Compounding the problem, the Whitebeard Ancient One of Earth-616 and Russell's rapid growth prompted the Bald Ancient One to contemplate an earlier retirement. She intended to step down from the mantle of Supreme Sorcerer, freeing herself of its burdens to focus on her personal practice.

As a result, Stephen's standing within the ranking decreased.

Russell, not one to wait idly, lacked both the patience and the teaching ability to catalyze Stephen's growth.

Tony, on the other hand, was forging his own path with the fusion of magic and his battle suit, a journey Russell could offer little assistance in, at least in the short term. Unless, of course, Russell was willing to be Tony's tool and guinea pig for magical experiments.

This left Wanda in the top spot.

Wanda was born with innate magical potential. As a child, she occasionally cast spells unconsciously. With the right catalyst, the Mind Stone could unlock the chaos magic dormant within her and direct it toward full mastery.

A powerful wizard could emerge with minimal effort on Russell's part.

The problem, however, was the Mind Stone. It was most likely in the possession of Thanos at this point.

The universe was vast, and finding the Mind Stone seemed a daunting task.

If the stone couldn't be found, Russell could track down Wanda first, bring her to Kamar-Taj for study, and work on awakening and mastering her chaos magic. This approach would be far quicker.

If his memory served him correctly, Wanda's parents were Oleg and Irina Maximoff, and she had a twin brother, Pietro Maximoff. Tragically, when Wanda and Pietro were young, their hometown was attacked by local rebels using weapons provided by Stark Industries, resulting in the deaths of their parents. A Stark Industries missile failed to detonate, allowing the twins to survive as orphans, left to wander.

Later, they were recruited by Hydra.

So, Wanda was likely still in Sokovia at this time. It was uncertain whether she had already joined Hydra, though.

"Master, I'm going out for a while. Call me when you attend Thor's coronation ceremony," Russell said, bidding farewell to the Ancient One.

With that, Russell opened a portal and stepped out, vanishing instantly.

"Hey, Russell is gone. How long has he been here this time?"

"From twelve o'clock yesterday to ten o'clock this morning twenty-two hours, breaking the record."

A portal opened in the jungle, and Russell emerged.

Sokovia, a small, landlocked Eastern European country, was known for its mountainous terrain, barren landscapes, and political turmoil. After World War II, Hydra had established a secret base there.

Russell's mental power spread out to cover the region. If there was a secret Hydra base, he would find it.

If Wanda had already joined Hydra, Russell would take her and Pietro back with him. If she hadn't yet joined, he would have to search for her around Sokovia.

If he couldn't find her, he could always call on Tony for help, as he owed Tony a life-saving favor.

As Russell formulated backup plans, things took an unexpectedly smooth turn.

"Huh?"

Russell's mental power detected something. A subtle sensation that could easily have gone unnoticed, but Russell was intently focused on his search.

"Found it."

Russell looked toward the source.

At this point, Wanda and Pietro hadn't yet joined Hydra. In fact, they were being hunted by Hydra forces.

"I don't like the trope of heroes saving damsels in distress," Russell muttered to himself, yet he couldn't ignore the situation unfolding before him.

He approached the scene.

"Wanda, hurry! This way!" Pietro urged, spotting a narrow path through which they could escape.

Hydra's focus, however, wasn't solely on Wanda and Pietro. They were hunting the entire town for experimental subjects.

Wanda and Pietro managed to slip away from the town, running through the path and climbing over a wall into a nearby forest, hoping to hide.

"Stop!"

Just as they thought they had escaped, a harsh voice called out to them from the front.

The voice didn't come from behind, but from ahead.

A large group of armed soldiers slowly emerged from the jungle, while another group of soldiers from the town began to close in.

"Hold your head with your hands and squat!" the commanding voice bellowed.

The force of the command was overwhelming pure, unrelenting force.

"Heh~"

As the twins braced themselves, about to comply, a light laugh cut through the tension.

It was faint, but unmistakable.

A tall portal, shimmering with golden sparks and rotating rapidly, appeared before Wanda.

Out of the portal stepped Russell, his robed figure towering over the scene.

"Shoot!"

A sharp command rang out.

Gunshots filled the air, but as the bullets flew toward their targets, they slowed and finally stopped mid-air.

Russell raised his right hand, snapping his fingers.

Snap!

The ground beneath the Hydra soldiers heaved and buckled, swallowing them in an instant, before everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened.

Wanda and Pietro stood, speechless, staring at the wizard who had just saved them with a mere snap of his fingers.

But one question lingered: Why had he appeared to rescue them?

"Want to learn?" Russell's voice sounded, mysterious and inviting.

Wanda and Pietro exchanged a look, their voices uncertain: "Want to! Can we really learn?"

"If you want to learn, I'll teach you," Russell responded calmly.

In the next moment, the Mirror Dimension expanded, enveloping the three of them.

Whoosh!

Like a ship breaking through space, they hurtled through the multiverse, witnessing the infinite dimensions and untold wonders.

While Russell couldn't assist Wanda directly in her spellcasting training, he knew how to ignite her curiosity and drive to master magic.

And with that, Wanda had found her new path.

Russell, in his own way, had become the best teacher.
