Chapter 288: Chapter 288 Happy Christmas Eve

Olivia's misunderstanding of Logan was clearly deepening. Fortunately, the conversation couldn't last long, as the school teachers were anxious to bring him back.

Stepping out of the bookstore, Logan scanned his surroundings and described his location over the phone. About ten minutes later, Olivia and the tour guide arrived in a taxi.

"You didn't actually go that far, huh?" After getting off the car, Olivia looked at the surrounding buildings and remarked casually.

Of course, Yu Logan had no good response for that, but he didn't have the time to worry about it either, because from the moment they reunited, the tour guide had been unloading a flood of grievances at him, half resentful, half lecturing.

The tour guide had indeed been having a rough time. Not only was he suddenly assigned the task of managing an entire group of students and teachers, but he also had to tread carefully around an aloof young lady from a prominent family. Then, upon hearing that a student had gone missing, he had nearly thought his job was on the line.

"Yes, yes, you're absolutely right. It won't happen again..." Logan, who was also embarrassed, could only agree like this.

Meanwhile, Olivia was standing next to him with her arms crossed, watching Logan with an amused expression, seeming to be very happy with this scene.

On the way back to the hotel, the tour guide had calmed down somewhat after venting his frustrations. Logan wiped away his nonexistent sweat, knowing he'd have to go through another round of questioning from the teachers soon.

'The tour guide must have been ordered by Olivia not to dig deeper into my disappearance.'

Sitting in the back seat, Logan glanced at the tall and beautiful figure sitting dignifiedly next to him. Just as he did, she turned her head slightly, her eyes meeting his. The lights from outside reflected in her gaze, making her expression shine with an almost knowing glint.

'See? You slipped up. And now you need my help...' That's what her look seemed to say.

Although she hadn't spoken much on the ride, Olivia's expression carried an undeniable certainty, the kind that said, 'I know your secret'. A hint of smug satisfaction was even visible.

Looking at the other party with empty eyes, Olivia raised an eyebrow, let out a small hum, and asked, "What?"

Logan promptly turned his head away

"..."

To be honest, Olivia has caused him quite a bit of trouble recently, but as the more time he spent with her, the more he realized that beneath her cold and rational demeanor, she had a somewhat silly, naive, and surprisingly idealistic side. It wasn't a bad thing, just unexpected.

At the very least, given the current situation, her presence helped cover for him. The only question was… how would this all play out in the end?

The neon lights of Akihabara faded into the distance as they wound through the city's streets, eventually arriving at the hotel where the Fresno High School's students and teachers were staying. The location was quiet yet still within the city.

As Logan followed Olivia and the tour guide into the lobby, he spotted several people waiting in the distance.

Most of the teachers were there, including David, Diane...

Logan rubbed the back of his head and let out a couple of dry laughs. Before he could say anything to lighten the mood, he was suddenly pulled into a bear hug.

"You're finally back! Are you okay?" David said, covering Logan without hesitation.

Logan didn't expect that the other party who sounded unserious on the phone would appear very genuine at this time, "Damn it, you were gone all afternoon. You have any idea how worried we were?"

David's face was unusually serious, with none of his usual playful energy. He gripped Logan's shoulders, with the worry evident on his face.

Logan chuckled and patted David stomach, and said with a smile: "I just got lost. I'm fine, really. Don't worry."

A soft fragrance drifted over as Diane approached, but now dressed in more casual clothing. Her damp hair suggested she had just taken a shower.

She looked at Logan with a quiet concern but didn't get a chance to speak first. After David had stepped aside, she asked softly: "Are you okay?"

Logan met her gaze and nodded.

The other students also came forward with their own words of concern, and soon enough, the teachers took over. Now that Logan was safely back, they were relieved, but that didn't mean they'd let him off without a lecture.

"Logan, you're saying you got lost?" One of the teachers questioned.

"Yes, teacher." Logan replied with shame. The excuse of getting lost was very cliche, almost ridiculous. However, after weighing his options, Logan had concluded that it was the most believable one. As long as he worded it carefully, even if there were holes, it would still be passable.

"After leaving the bookstore, I ended up in a narrow alley..."

As he explained, Logan subtly glanced at Olivia. She met his gaze with an unreadable expression, as composed as ever.

As for why his phone had been unreachable, Logan stuck to his story, bad signal, low battery. He also added that he had accidentally left it behind in a crowded shopping area, and a store clerk had luckily found it.

His explanation was met with dead silence.

No one quite believed him, but because the story was so predictably mundane, it was easier to accept. Besides, Olivia, the ever-trustworthy and highly respected student, was silently vouching for him with her presence.

David and Diane had their doubts, but seeing Olivia standing there with unconcerned look, they didn't press the issue.

The teachers, too, ultimately let it slide. What mattered most was that Logan had returned safe and sound. A few more words of caution and a final round of scolding later, the crowd dispersed.

David patted Logan's shoulder twice, shook his head, and sighed, saying that his phone really needed an upgrade. "Don't be so stingy, treat yourself better, man."

Then, with a yawn, he headed back to his room for a shower.

With that, the lobby quickly emptied. The hotel staff, seeing that the noisy group of students had finally dispersed, relaxed and pulled out their phones. In a corner, a few locals were chatting quietly on the sofa.

Diane, now in her pajamas, glanced around cautiously. Her hands were tucked behind her back, and she fidgeted with her feet.

The tour guide gave the remaining few people a strange look, deciding it was best to make himself scarce. A few seconds later, as Olivia still showed no signs of leaving, Diane hesitated for a moment. Then, in a quick movement, she stepped closer to Logan, whispered, "Happy Christmas Eve", and darted off toward the elevator.

Logan was stunned for a moment. Before the elevator doors closed, the girl who rushed in startled the tour guide, and then she blushed and stuck out her tongue.

The elevator ascended, its doors sealing off the scene. Olivia let out a soft chuckle.

"You two..." Breaking the silence, Olivia said very delicately, "What is your relationship?"

Yu Xiaobai looked away from the rising number and said calmly: "It's just an ordinary classmate relationship."

"I must not have been paying enough attention before." Olivia said, "Diane seems to..."

"Senior, it seems you are also quite gossipy." Logan interrupted her, "It's just a normal holiday greeting. Besides, talking about someone behind their back isn't exactly polite."

"Let's get down to business." Logan looked at the other party and added.

This change of topic suited Olivia's interests perfectly, so she followed the words and said with bright eyes: "Since you said 'business', you must mean your disappearance this afternoon, right?"

Logan looked at the pure interest in the other person's eyes and nodded, "Anyway... thanks for covering for me."

"I just have one question, was that a 'thank you' for helping you again?" Olivia asked with a smile on her lips.

Hearing this, Logan sighed inwardly. He then admitted it, "Yes."

With that, an unspoken understanding formed between them. As everyone else had returned to their rooms, the two of them remaining downstairs for a private conversation was a mutual, tacit decision.

Given the unexpected nature of his transmigration incident, Logan knew he had no plausible, logical explanation for his sudden disappearance from the afternoon until the evening.

The truth was, if Olivia wanted to dig deeper, she could easily uncover just how strange and suspicious his situation was. She had both the intelligence and the resources to do so.

Realizing this, Logan decided to stop playing dumb. Not only was it pointless, but at this stage, he needed her cooperation.

Fortunately, Olivia was 'reasonable'. She hadn't reported his disappearance, had reassured the others, and had even played along when the teachers asked questions.

This was a silent show of trust. Since she had already gone this far to help him, Logan couldn't just turn a blind eye.

He still remembered that moment of shock when she had thrown herself onto the street without hesitation to protect a little boy from an oncoming car... Even now, he didn't fully understand the background of this wealthy, well-connected young lady, but that didn't stop him from recognizing the kindness in her heart.

"So, is there anything else you want to say?" Logan pressed the elevator button. There were multiple elevators, and though they had now reached an initial understanding of mutual benefit, neither had specified how long this conversation would last.

At this point, indulging her curiosity just a little might not only save Logan some trouble, and it might even prove useful later.

Logan believed in the other party's character, and Olivia was smart enough not to cross the line.
