I'M NARUTO UZUMAKI

Chapter 318: CHAPTER 318

Rotating Windmill

Fugaku Uchiha had many suspects regarding the recent theft of a Sharingan, but his suspicions first fell upon his eldest son, Uchiha Itachi.

Itachi had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and was being groomed as the next leader of the Uchiha clan. However, he was torn between loyalty to his family and his duty to the village. His reluctance to share ANBU intelligence with the clan further deepened Fugaku's doubts.

Still, Itachi had no reason to steal a Sharingan. He was already one of the most powerful Uchiha, and unlike Danzo, he had no history of coveting other people's eyes. Besides, Itachi likely lacked knowledge of the forbidden techniques Izanagi and Izanami, which required sacrificing a Sharingan.

Could the culprit be someone from the Uchiha clan who was aligned with the Hokage faction?

Fugaku was troubled but kept his concerns to himself. He left the Naka Shrine without informing anyone of the theft.

The loss of a Sharingan was a grave matter. It was more than just an eye—it was a symbol of the Uchiha's strength. Worse, the fact that someone had infiltrated the heart of the Uchiha district without detection threatened to shake the clan's confidence. If word spread, it could weaken their resolve for the planned coup against Konoha.

For a moment, Fugaku even considered reporting the theft to the Hokage.

But the conflict between the Uchiha and the village had already reached a breaking point. There was no room for diplomacy—only two outcomes remained: the Uchiha seizing power or facing annihilation. No matter how long they delayed, their strength would eventually wither, and even the Police Force would lose its authority.

Meanwhile, en route to the Forest of Death…

Shisui Uchiha tightly gripped the summoning scroll containing the stolen Sharingan, occasionally glancing at the boy walking beside him—Naruto Uzumaki.

Stealing a Sharingan had been a dangerous gamble for Shisui. Not only did he risk being caught by his own clan, but he also had to ensure that the stolen eye wouldn't fall into the wrong hands.

Naruto, however, had shown no interest in claiming the eye for himself. Despite possessing a far superior dōjutsu—his own Mangekyō Sharingan—Naruto hadn't even questioned the Sharingan's purpose.

But if Naruto truly had no desire for power, then why had he taken Kotoamatsukami, Shisui's ultimate genjutsu?

Upon arriving at the secret underground hideout in the Forest of Death, Shisui's shadow clone sighed in relief and handed the summoning scroll to the real Naruto.

As a captive, he had no choice.

Naruto took the scroll and looked at Shisui with mild amusement. "I thought you'd try to resist… or at least leave a message for your clan. But you didn't even attempt anything. That's kind of boring."

Shisui gave an awkward smile. "My eye replacement surgery depends on you."

Naruto raised an eyebrow but quickly understood. Even if Shisui had escaped, finding another medic to perform the surgery would have been nearly impossible. Worse, if Danzo caught wind of it, he would undoubtedly claim the eye for himself.

Without another word, Naruto began the transplant procedure.

This Sharingan was noticeably colder than the last one he had handled. Prolonged storage had weakened its cell activity, making the surgery more difficult. Hours passed, consuming a significant amount of Naruto's Yang Release chakra to prevent rejection.

When the operation was complete, Shisui's body needed time to adapt. Normally, a two-to-three-day recovery period would suffice, but the rejection symptoms were worse than expected.

Shisui was a Jōnin and a pure-blooded Uchiha, yet his body still resisted the foreign eye. It was no wonder that only a few non-Uchiha, like Kakashi Hatake and Danzo, had ever successfully transplanted Sharingan.

By comparison, Naruto's own experiences with dōjutsu transplants had been almost effortless—likely due to his Uzumaki heritage and the powerful chakra of the Nine-Tails and Asura.

With Shisui unconscious, Naruto turned his gaze toward the remaining Sharingan in the summoning scroll.

A single or two-tomoe Sharingan was worthless to him. Even a fully developed three-tomoe Sharingan was only marginally useful. It was nothing more than a minor enhancement.

As for the Uchiha's secret techniques—Izanagi and Izanami—Naruto found them interesting but limited. Izanami required highly specific conditions to activate, making it impractical. Izanagi could rewrite reality, but even it had limits. A user couldn't, for instance, undo the extraction of the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki.

Still, in the spirit of not wasting valuable resources, Naruto took a pair of three-tomoe Sharingan and used the Teleportation Jutsu to leave.

Before vanishing, he dispelled Shisui's shadow clone, erasing all evidence of his presence.

---

The Next Morning…

Shisui awoke earlier than expected, groggy and in pain. As his vision adjusted, he noticed a scroll resting on the table beside him.

Unfolding it, he found a short farewell note from Naruto.

The last few lines were sealed with a protective technique—one that would destroy the message if forcefully broken.

Suppressing his curiosity, Shisui turned his attention to the summoning scroll.

Two pairs of Sharingan were missing—one had been transplanted into him, and the other had been taken by Naruto. This was within acceptable limits.

In truth, Shisui wouldn't have minded if all the Sharingan had been stolen. The theft, after all, might serve as a wake-up call for the Uchiha clan. If it forced them to acknowledge the dangers lurking within and outside their ranks, they might reconsider their plans for a coup.

Perhaps it had even bought him time—to find a way to escape Konoha with his people.

As for Naruto… why had he taken Kotoamatsukami only to give cryptic hints about escaping? What was his real goal?

Shisui didn't have time to dwell on it.

More importantly, he had learned a lesson: he could no longer afford to be so trusting or merciful. Kindness would only lead to destruction—of himself and his clan.

Shisui stood, his new eye adjusting to his chakra. Before leaving, he took one last look at the underground hideout where he had spent the past several months.

With a few quick hand seals, he exhaled a Katon: Gōryūka no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique), igniting the pre-placed explosive tags. A powerful explosion engulfed the passageway, ensuring no one would trace him.

Without looking back, Shisui vanished into the depths of the Forest of Death.
