Chapter 242: Chapter 37: The Final Disposition of Kohina Hiruko
Two hours later, Kisara Tendo and Rentaro Satomi arrived.
Although it was still early in the morning a time when most Tokyo citizens were asleep, and even the busiest nightlife streets had passed their peak the two, who had been drowsy, were jolted awake by Nia Honjo call. They immediately took a taxi and rushed to the shelter.
"You guys are too late. Have you ever considered my feelings?"
Sitting on the ruins of the church, Nia Honjo scratched her stomach unceremoniously, yawned, and asked, "It's been over two hours since I called. If you hadn't come soon, I might have fallen asleep."
"You jerk! Have you ever considered our feelings?"
Kisara Tendo was so angry her nose almost twisted. She grabbed Nia Honjo collar and said, "You woke me up in the middle of the night, and the first thing you said was that Kagetane Hiruko attacked you. I was almost scared to death I nearly had a heart attack, you know?"
"It's not a big deal, Kisara. You're always so tense; you'll get old easily."
Kisara Tendo made an angry sound but held back.
She couldn't afford to offend Nia Honjo after all, she still needed her help for revenge.
Meanwhile, Rentaro Satomi, who had been observing the surroundings, noticed the corpse placed not far away. His expression grew complicated.
"Did you really kill Kagetane Hiruko?"
"It wasn't me; it was Nibelcole," Nia Honjo said with a bitter smile. "My opponent was that little girl over there."
"I know how dangerous that guy is. Even I'm not 100% sure I could defeat him, let alone kill him."
Even with the body right in front of him, Rentaro Satomi found it hard to believe. "How did Nibelcole kill him?"
"Who knows? Compared to a weak and innocent woman like me, Nibelcole is much more terrifying."
Hearing this, Kisara Tendo and Rentaro Satomi gave her a synchronized look that said, You can choose not to say it, but please don't treat us like fools.
However, the two didn't dwell on the topic for long.
In their eyes, Nia Honjo and her daughter were extremely mysterious both in terms of their background and their abilities.
Therefore, Rentaro Satomi and Kisara Tendo had a tacit understanding: if the other party didn't want to talk, they wouldn't press.
Maintaining an appropriate distance was one of the conditions for keeping their cooperative relationship intact.
"Kagetane Hiruko is an internationally wanted criminal with a bounty on his head," Kisara Tendo said. "I can help you report the achievement. Once recognized by the government, you'll not only get the bounty but also see your police ranking rise."
"Ranking doesn't matter. What's the bounty?"
"I'm not sure, but it must be several million."
"That doesn't have much appeal to a billionaire like me."
"If you don't want it, I can keep it for you."
"I want it."
"Cheapskate."
"Scrooge."
"We shouldn't be discussing money right now, should we?" Rentaro Satomi said, exasperated. "We have other issues to deal with."
"That's true."
Kisara Tendo glanced at the girl next to the corpse and pursed her lips. "What are you going to do with her?"
"Actually, I wanted to ask you," Nia Honjo said. "Do you want to take her? Her combat ability is pretty good. I remember Kisara doesn't have an initiator yet, right?"
"Are you kidding? She's also a murderer," Kisara Tendo retorted, rolling her eyes.
"What about you, Rentaro?"
"No, no. Enju wouldn't agree," Rentaro Satomi said, shaking his head like a rattle.
"Hey, hey, hey, you heartless guys, you're not going to leave her to me, are you?" Nia Honjo eyes widened. "I'm the one who killed her father. If I take her in, I might get killed one day."
"Then why don't you hand her over to the government?" Rentaro Satomi suggested.
"Doesn't your conscience hurt?"
"It's not me who's paying. You should be the one worrying about your conscience."
"Young man, you've become very mean!"
The three of them continued to discuss Kohina Hiruko fate, passing the hot potato around like a football. No one was willing to take responsibility.
However, except for the more ruthless Kisara Tendo, Rentaro Satomi and Nia Honjo weren't comfortable with the idea of sending Kohina Hiruko to the government.
As a murderer and a cursed child, the consequences of being handed over to the government were grim.
She would either be executed immediately or sent to a laboratory.
This choice was especially distressing for Nia Honjo, who knew Kohina Hiruko's life story.
Kohina Hiruko wasn't a bad person by nature.
But from the moment she was born, she had been destined to be used as a weapon by Kagetane Hiruko. There was no point in discussing whether she was good or evil.
"Actually, I don't think you need to feel such a heavy psychological burden," Kisara Tendo said. "This child's Gastrea factor seems to be constantly active. With such uncontrolled use, I estimate her erosion rate is almost 50%. Even if she isn't sent to the government, she won't live long."
"That's true."
"Really."
"So, have you decided whether to send her or not?"
"Send her or not?"
"Yeah, send her or not?"
As if she had overheard the conversation, Kohina Hiruko, who had woken up but was still grieving her father's death, raised her head.
"My father once told me that if he died, I should live with the person who killed him," Kohina Hiruko said dully. "I'm very useful. I'm good at killing people and Gastrea. I'm sure I can help."
"Ugh…"
Hearing Kagetane Hiruko's last words, Nia Honjo face turned pale.
What kind of international good father is this?
He raised five daughters, and after his death, he wanted the surviving one to live with his enemy. He was truly heartless.
Generally speaking, for a daughter left behind by an enemy, wouldn't the best solution be to eliminate the problem entirely to avoid complications?
Or did Kagetane Hiruko guess that the person who killed him would be a righteous ally who wouldn't harm a child, and that's why he said that?
"Wait, let me check first."
Nia Honjo sighed, summoned her angel, and asked the Whispering Proclamation Volume, "Does Kohina Hiruko have any hostility toward me?"
[No]
"No? Why?"
[For Kohina Hiruko, Kagetane Hiruko orders are absolute. If he wanted her to serve the person who killed him, then she will do so.]
"Well, that's… twisted."
Nia Honjo didn't want to delve deeper into the relationship between Kagetane Hiruko and his daughter.
As for a child like Kohina Hiruko, who had no power of choice from the beginning and was merely used as a tool, if she could lend a helping hand and guide her onto the right path, she wouldn't hesitate to do so.
Just like Kyoka Izumi in the Bungo Stray Dogs world.
Originally, she had planned to let someone else deal with this hot potato. But since Kohina Hiruko was willing to follow her the person who had killed her father and had no intention of seeking revenge, it wasn't impossible to accept her.
"Well… there are already so many cursed children here. One more or one less won't make much difference."
Nia Honjo patted Kohina Hiruko's head.
"It just so happens that the shelter needs a janitor. Please help protect the children here."
