Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Snakes, Toads, and Flying Kids—Oh My!
Manda's giant head swayed as it scanned the scene—and the moment it saw Jiraiya on the ground, a surge of unpleasant memories rose in its mind.
The last time it had been summoned to fight Jiraiya, it had ended up skewered through who knows how many holes.
Both Jiraiya and Orochimaru had used it like a damn meat shield. It definitely hadn't forgotten.
"You've got some nerve, Orochimaru. Summoning me again?!"
"I'll compensate you with a suitable offering—just help me take care of this mess first."
Orochimaru, for his part, was feeling a little embarrassed.
Meanwhile, Jiraiya had quietly started summoning Gamabunta as well.
He hadn't wanted to use summoning jutsu inside the town, but there was no way he could take on Orochimaru without it.
"What now, Jiraiya…"
The smoke swirled—and Gamabunta appeared, pipe in mouth, instantly spotting Orochimaru and Manda.
"Hm? So they're the enemies this time?"
To toads, snakes were utterly revolting—and Manda felt just as much disgust toward these toads.
"Filthy toad? Hmph. Orochimaru, I'll let you off this time, but that wretched thing dies first!"
"You're asking for it!"
Jiraiya didn't need to say a word—Gamabunta had already drawn his blade. With a powerful leap, he brought his massive tanto crashing down toward Manda's head.
Manda dodged with agile precision, then instantly seized the opportunity to coil around Gamabunta. Its fangs bared, it lunged, ready to sink its teeth into the massive toad.
The two colossal beasts clashed violently, unleashing a whirlwind of dust and debris. Buildings all around them were collapsing one after another.
"You really don't know when to quit, do you, Jiraiya?"
While the monsters fought like titans, Orochimaru stood calmly atop Manda's head, speaking with a leisurely tone.
"Keep digging into secrets you shouldn't, and one day you'll get yourself killed for it."
"Hmph. No matter what, I will get to the bottom of this."
This time, Jiraiya wasn't playing around. Both Orochimaru and the two suspected disciples of his had made him unusually wary of this so-called Akatsuki organization.
And now, with two Mangekyō-wielding Uchiha within its ranks—both responsible for endless bloodshed—everything pointed back to Konohagakure.
"If you want to die that badly, I'll gladly help you along."
Orochimaru licked his lips, already thinking through what he'd say next.
"No point wasting your energy searching. Akatsuki's members are scattered across the world. You'll never find them. We only gather when there's a mission to execute—otherwise, there's no structure or regulation."
He had decided it was time for Jiraiya to focus fully on Akatsuki and stop bothering him.
Still, he didn't plan to reveal too much. On one hand, he didn't want Akatsuki coming after him. On the other, he very much wanted to screw over Danzō.
"But let me give you a heads-up—we're not a group of pushovers. Our leader? He once defeated both Hanzo the Salamander and Danzō."
"What? Shimura Danzō… and Hanzo?!"
Jiraiya's eyes widened.
Orochimaru gave a slight nod.
"That's right. You've heard about Root suffering catastrophic losses, haven't you?"
"I've heard rumors…"
"Hmph. Hanzo joined forces with Danzō to wipe out a mysterious group… but in the end, Root's elite forces were annihilated, and Hanzo hasn't dared take a single step outside Amegakure ever since."
Orochimaru licked his lips again, his raspy voice carrying a hint of disdain.
He knew enough about Danzō's business—after all, back then, he was still waiting on the Hokage appointment, and Danzō had been keeping close to him.
Though the outcome had been somewhat… 'less than ideal', it wasn't until after Orochimaru joined Akatsuki and spent time in Amegakure that he began to connect the dots.
Of course, he still didn't know whether his guess was correct—but frankly, he didn't care.
As long as he could divert Jiraiya's attention and thoroughly disgust Danzō in the process, that was more than enough!
"Danzō… Hanzo…"
Jiraiya was momentarily stunned—but Orochimaru seized the opportunity.
Countless serpents burst out from the sleeves of Orochimaru's robe, surging toward Jiraiya like a living tide of snakes!
"Coward!"
Jiraiya snapped back to attention, leapt backward, and formed hand seals in a flash.
"Fire Release: Dragon Flame Bullet!"
With a violent rush of flames, the swarming snakes were instantly incinerated to ash.
But Orochimaru's silhouette had already vanished behind the wall of fire—only his voice remained, drifting faintly from within the blaze.
"Well then, if you're so eager to die, go right ahead. I've no interest in wasting time on an idiot like you any longer. Don't worry—I'll be watching when you finally drop dead."
"You bastard! Don't you dare run!"
Jiraiya shouted in frustration, but Orochimaru's voice was growing fainter and fainter.
"You should really go check on that brat. He's squaring off with the Fourth Raikage, you know."
"Gen…"
Jiraiya froze at those words.
The fire still roared around him, but all he could do now was sigh deeply.
"Damn that guy…"
Manda, who had been grappling with Gamabunta all this time, muttered a few curses after realizing Orochimaru had already fled—and promptly dispelled the summoning.
"Che. That damn snake... One of these days, I'm turning you into a wallet."
Gamabunta cursed as well, then turned to look at Jiraiya.
"Well, I'll be heading out too, then."
"Alright."
Jiraiya nodded. With Orochimaru gone, this fight was over—and it was time to check on the other side.
Leaping high into the air, he immediately darted off toward the battlefield.
But something gnawed at the back of his mind: Why was Kitagawa Gen fighting the Fourth Raikage?
Tsunade likely wouldn't act recklessly… but what about Kakashi?
"Forget it. That kid Gen is probably not far off from Minato's level. If Minato could handle the Raikage, then Gen should be alright too."
Jiraiya told himself this—but still, he couldn't stop his body from accelerating.
Yet when he finally arrived at the scene—
His eyes widened in shock.
And one terrifying thought surged into his mind.
"No way… is he dead?!"
Jiraiya wasn't the only one struck by that terrifying thought—Kakashi felt it too. Even Tsunade's mind was overwhelmed, flooded with the image of a figure she thought she had just watched vanish before her eyes.
"This is…"
Tsunade stared in disbelief at the battlefield in the distance. She had personally witnessed Kitagawa Gen being struck—only for his entire body to disappear in an instant.
And the very next moment, he reappeared behind the Fourth Raikage!
"Flying Thunder God Technique…"
Tsunade whispered to herself.
In the middle of the battlefield, the Fourth Raikage's eyes went wide.
Kitagawa Gen's voice came from directly behind him—and in that instant, he felt it: a wave of deadly, killing intent.
"This… Is this the Flying Thunder God Technique?!"
His reaction wasn't slow. At that moment, a memory slammed into him.
Years ago, he and Killer Bee had faced a golden-haired man who used this very jutsu—and even together, the two of them couldn't lay a finger on him.
"This brat can use that jutsu?!"
His mind raced.
The Fourth Raikage forced his body into a twist, doing everything he could to avoid a fatal hit. He channeled his chakra at full power in an attempt to shield his body.
He couldn't dodge—not completely. His only hope was to minimize the damage.
And now, he thought he understood why that kid hadn't used the Flying Thunder God until now.
"He was waiting for this exact moment?!"
But it was already too late.
Kitagawa Gen's white fang short blade, crackling with violet lightning, had already pierced forward!
He didn't know any technique like Hell Stab, but this strike relied purely on overwhelming force and explosive momentum.
In a way, it was remarkably similar to the Chidori—and Gen was fully capable of merging his violet lightning with the White Fang blade to devastating effect.
"Don't worry—I'm not stupid. Sometimes, it's better to rip the pain off early than let it drag on."
[Buzz—!]
The White Fang blade thrust forward, stabbing hard into the Fourth Raikage's back.
The terrifying piercing power, paired with the rampaging violet lightning, tore mercilessly through the cloak of blue lightning surrounding the Raikage.
The blue chakra flared and struggled—but it had been activated hastily, and it couldn't withstand Gen's assault. Within a split second, it was shredded apart.
But just then—Gen's blade suddenly shifted.
As if in sync with the Raikage's twisting body, the blade swerved away from the vital organs and instead slashed straight across the Fourth Raikage's left arm!
Blood erupted instantly, and the Fourth Raikage crashed hard to the ground.
