Chapter 5: Chapter 5 – System Mission
Chapter 5 – System Mission
Tatsuro stepped up to the podium. Although Yuta Okkotsu was still standing by the door, his terrifying cursed energy had already caused the three students in the classroom to tense up as if facing a deadly threat.
"I'm Tatsuro. Please take care of me. Yuta, stop spacing out at the door."
"Ah, right!"
As Yuta stepped into the classroom, his immense cursed energy exploded outward. A hideous curse spirit bared its fangs at the three students, placing its hands protectively on Yuta's shoulders.
Tatsuro immediately retreated behind Gojo—he wasn't about to get caught in a crossfire. The other three students looked ready to attack.
"I'm Yuta Okkotsu. Nice to meet you all."
Just as he finished speaking, a razor-sharp naginata slammed into the blackboard near his face.
Yuta swallowed nervously.
Is this… some kind of test?
The girl wielding the weapon stared coldly at him and said, "Hey! You're cursed, aren't you? This is a place to learn about curses—not a place for people possessed by one."
The panda bared its fangs. Its paws, despite being wrapped in cute mitts, were raised and ready to fight.
Toge crouched, pulling down his scarf. His sharp eyes locked onto Yuta like a hunter sizing up prey—ready to strike if anything went wrong.
What is going on…? What curse?
Yuta was completely baffled.
Seeing this, Gojo began to explain:
"In Japan, over 10,000 people die or go missing from unexplained causes every year. Most of these cases are caused by negative emotions that materialize into curses—some even the result of cursed users committing evil. Only curses can fight curses. That's why this place exists: the Tokyo Jujutsu Technical School. We train here to exorcise them."
"You could've said that earlier!!"
Yuta shouted in frustration. No wonder everyone was treating him like a threat!
The other three—two students and one panda—looked equally shocked. "You're only telling him this now?!"
"Sorry!!"
Gojo apologized with a straight face. Then, a lightbulb went off in his head, and he quickly added, "Oh, right—better step back from him."
Everyone blinked in confusion.
Suddenly, two giant hands emerged from the blackboard, gripping the naginata embedded there. A hoarse voice echoed through the room:
"Don't you dare… bully Yuta!!"
"Rika, wait!" Yuta shouted, terrified she'd hurt them. "They didn't mean any harm!"
But the spirit known as Rika didn't seem convinced. Her looming form stepped out from the wall, snarling at the three others.
"KILL THEM!!"
Terrifying…
Tatsuro, who had been watching this unfold, felt his knees go weak. The sheer pressure made it hard to breathe. If Gojo hadn't been there, he probably would've run.
"Rika! Go back!!"
Yuta's desperate shout seemed to snap her out of it. She froze for a second, then backed off—but not before giving each of the three a quick bop on the head.
"…"
No wonder they call him the Pure Love War God…
Tatsuro had expected a massive fight broken up by Gojo—not… this.
The oppressive force from that spirit was no joke. Truly fitting for a special grade.
Gojo smiled and stepped forward. "Yuta's case is a little unique, so please treat him kindly. If anyone attacks him, we might get a repeat of what just happened. So, be careful!"
The three—two humans and a panda—were all disheveled and annoyed.
You could've said that earlier!!
"And we also have Tatsuro, who I believe will be a great fit for everyone here!"
Hearing his introduction, Tatsuro quickly stepped up beside Yuta and smiled brightly. "Hi! Nice to meet you all!"
No, we're not happy at all… the other three silently groaned.
"They're all just moody teens," Gojo chuckled. "Let me do the proper introductions."
"But he doesn't know the whole class is silently cursing him the most," Tatsuro thought.
"First up," Gojo said, "this is Maki Zenin—an expert with cursed tools. She uses special weapons to exorcise curses."
Maki stood silently, gripping her naginata.
Gojo continued, "Next is Toge Inumaki. He's a cursed speech user. His vocabulary is limited to rice ball ingredients, so communication may take effort!"
Toge raised a hand in greeting.
"Kelp."
Gojo smiled. "And finally, this is Panda."
The giant panda spoke clearly. "I'm Panda. Nice to meet you."
Gojo concluded, "Alright, with you two, our first-year class is up to five students. This afternoon, we'll begin training. You'll be split into two groups: three and two."
"Toge and Panda will be in one group. Maki, Yuta, and Tatsuro, you'll be in the other."
Exorcising curses, huh…
Maybe I can earn some points that way. He still didn't fully understand how the system worked—but with Gojo and the others backing him, he was confident he'd survive.
Tatsuro grinned, then dramatically clung to Maki's right leg.
"Protect me, oh great one!"
"…"
Everyone froze—including Maki herself. She looked down at Tatsuro, now hugging her thigh like a desperate child. Her face turned beet red.
"GET OFF ME, PERVERT!!"
She kicked him hard, launching him across the classroom.
All I did was grab her leg! Was that really so wrong…?
CRASH!
The window shattered as Tatsuro was sent flying. He hit the ground, rolled twice, and came to a stop.
"Cough… I've been hit too many times today. My body's really not holding up…"
He slowly pushed himself up, wiping blood from his mouth—when a new blue system window suddenly appeared in front of him.
> Mission: Exorcise 10 cursed spirits.
Reward: 5 Points, Genin-level Physical Strength Boost
Time Limit: 9:59:59
A mission?
Talk about good timing!
He'd been wondering how to get points—now it made sense. System quests! Tatsuro lit up with excitement, like a starving man finding a banquet.
"Why isn't this guy dead yet…?" Maki muttered. She had worried that she might've kicked him too hard—but now, seeing the grin on his face, her concern turned to disgust. She looked like she might beat him up again.
As for Panda, Toge, and Yuta, they had no idea what to make of Tatsuro anymore.
They'd seen weird people before—but never one this weird. He just got launched out a window… and now he looked excited?
"He's built different…" even Gojo couldn't help but comment.
