Immemorial Patriarch: Immortal Yu Clan

Chapter 3: Exposed

Yu Yan, still bewildered, watched the old man continue talking to himself.

"There's still two months before the election, the wedding ceremony will be brought forward and I will teach you how to secure the Clan Leader position"

Although it seemed like the old man was negotiating, the fact that he didn't wait to hear Yu Yan's opinion revealed what he really felt.

Watching the old man walk out after talking to himself, Yu Yan scoffed. Become Patriarch so he could be played around like a tool? No way!

But then he thought about the System quest and the punishment for failure.

"Maybe I can swallow this disrespect. A man must learn to endure unfavorable situations," he muttered to himself, feeling proud of his insight.

"I just need to utilize the system well and get out of the puppet situation after becoming Patriarch." With this thought, his mind settled, and he felt relaxed.

Time to check out the Pocket World.

With a thought, he disappeared from his seat and found himself in a small space with green fog all around him. Just as he was feeling confused, the fog started to clear up and a small space appeared. It was half the size of a football field and completely empty. After a brief hesitation, Yu Yan produced the unknown seed and planted it right in the middle of the space. He watched for a while, but nothing happened before deciding to leave it and study the space boundary, which was covered in thick green fog.

Venturing cautiously into the fog, Yu Yan was surprised to find that there was no restriction, so he happily continued forward only to suddenly exit from the opposite side of the space from where he entered.

"So a sphere?" He wondered.

What good was this space then? His face scrunched up in a frown feeling like he had gotten something useless. Just then, he heard a low mumbling and noticed the speed of the AI deletion had increased.

[AI Deletion Progress: 46%]

The corners of his lips twitched and he stopped complaining about the space. Sitting on the futon beside the sprout, he started to cultivate with the cultivation method he received.

Cultivation levels in this world were divided into nine levels for each realm with some geniuses going beyond the limit. Mei Hua Lin had once mentioned that someone in the clan broke through the limit of their realm to level 10.

The realms currently recorded in the Immortal Tome were, Body Tampering > Qi Condensation > Foundation Establishment > Qi Sea > Soul Forging > Soul Manifestation > Core Formation > Shedding Mortality > Nascent Soul.

The list of cultivation levels gave Yu Yan a pause. He thought he had transmigrated to a low-level world when he learned Nascent Soul was the highest level of the world; he didn't expect there to be eight levels before it. From this, one could see that cultivation was a marathon, not a sprint, and stability was perhaps more important than anything else.

For now, although he started too late, he needed to tamper his body before he could begin to store Qi. From Body Tampering realm to Shedding Mortality, all were ants. Slightly stronger mortals that a Nascent Soul cultivator could crush with just a thought.

There were no restrictions in the Immortal Tome; all he had to do was to absorb Qi into his body and use it to forge his flesh, bones, and five viscera, which were separated into low, mid, and peak Body Tampering.

Sitting cross-legged on the futon, he closed his eyes and began to feel the Qi around him. Suddenly, he opened his eyes in shock as he felt the boundless Qi all around him dancing like will-o-wisps. He instinctively felt that he needed to be cautious to not pull in too much Qi.

Unfortunately, despite reminding himself, when the first strand of Qi entered his body, he knew he had pulled in too much as the pain ravaged through him. Gritting his teeth, he endured the feeling of having his muscles torn and reshaped over and over again.

The Immortal Tome was such a good cultivation method because not only was it stable, but it also provided general knowledge about cultivation along with some cultivation experiences of others who practiced many different techniques. There was even a question and answer part of it to help him if he encountered any difficulties. Because of this, although he was probably the first person to cultivate in the Immortal Tome technique, he wasn't going in blind.

For the next three days, Yu Yan stayed in the Pocket World cultivating. When he first started, he imagined he would quickly get bored but he had underestimated how fascinating the experience was. He was completely lost in it, entering a state of 'one with the world' due to the effect of Serenity. It was a state many wished to experience because of its amazing effects, but one could only encounter it by luck. For Yu Yan, every time he cultivated on the futon, he would enter this state.

On the third day, he woke up feeling very reluctant. If he wasn't worried that someone would enter his room and find him absent, he would have stayed to continue. Left with no choice, he disappeared from the Pocket World and appeared on his bed.

As he rose from the bed, a flaky substance fell off from his body attracting his attention. He leaned down to pick and observe it between his fingers. It felt like drying mud and had a subtle but pungent smell, almost giving him whiplash as he stretched his hand far from his face.

Looking at his outstretched arm, he was shocked to see it grey and cracked like he was molded out of clay. Covering his mouth to hide the scream coming out of his throat, he started to rush out of the room but once he reached the door, he gagged and almost spilled his intestines as his stomach was empty.

Instantly, a scream directly from his chest resounded through the courtyard.

"Arrrrghhhhhhh"

Immediately following that were soft sounds of explosions and things shattering; the clouds even darkened for a moment, and lightning flashed lightly before quickly dispersing.

"Who the f*CK is trying to kill this grandpa!" A shout resounded just as Yu Yan's scream ended, and following that were curses and complaints.

"I was just in a critical moment about to break through, who will give this father his breakthrough opportunity back"

"Who is it causing me to fail my alchemy, I a superior level pill was forming, a superior pill"

"What are you complaining about, this daddy finally got hard over so much effort"

"Isn't it easy to get hard? Find a girl and don't do it by yourself"

"If I could find a girl willing to help me, would I have so much trouble?" Two youths walked out of their rooms, talking with faux annoyance at each other, earning themselves disgusted looks from others who had come to see the cause of the commotion.

"What happened here?" A stern voice suddenly silenced the youth, and everyone turned to the entrance to see a stern-faced middle-aged man with short black hair and a cane in hand. His purple robe was neat and remarkably pristine, each thread of the sims woven to perfection.

"Fifth Elder" everyone called out in greeting.

The Fifth Elder was the strictest of all eleven Yu Clan Elders. He and the Sixth Elder were the youngest from the same generation and had inherited their positions from their fathers. They were also the only Elders who got involved with this time's Patriarch selection, the others didn't seem to care. Perhaps they had lived too long, or the rank didn't matter to them; the reason was unknown.

The Fifth Elder's expression remained stern, and his eyes roamed about, looking for who caused the commotion. His gaze soon landed on Yu Yan, who was passed out in front of his door, and his expression changed to amazement and bewilderment.

"Does anyone know what happened to Yu Yan?" He asked as he approached the body on the ground.

An older man suddenly rushed over, his grey robe revealing his position as a Deacon.

"Fifth Elder, he seems to be undergoing body tempering," the Deacon replied after observing Yu Yan closely for a while.

His words instantly sent the crowd into a frenzy.

"Body Tampering? Isn't Yu Yan a fool? How can he cultivate?"

"Maybe he ate some treasure?"

"Use your brain, how would a fool get a treasure?"

"Are you both stupid? Even if he is a fool, he is still a Legacy, besides the Sixth Elder's adopted daughter is infatuated with him"

"So you know he is a Legacy and you still dare to call him a fool?" a stern voice caused the discussing trio to shut up.

"Fifth Elder, they are still children; please don't take it against them." The Deacon turned to the Fifth Elder, whose eyes seemed to have frozen over.

He turned to Yu Yan and attempted to reach for him when he stopped himself and turned to the Deacon.

"What exactly is his cultivation level?" He asked.

The Deacon's expression turned helpless but he responded quickly by reaching for Yu Yan's wrist to check.

"Body Tampering Level 3"
