Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Fury! Murder!
Makarov and Gaal exchanged a glance.
Suddenly, Gaal remembered that Ultear was on a mission to seize control of the R System as ordered by Hades.
However, during that time, Ultear's Life Card had ignited unexpectedly. They were in a rush to deal with Stinger and notify everyone to refrain from taking any quests for the time being, so they didn't inquire further about Ultear's situation.
After treating her, they returned to Fairy Tail.
Gaal stroked his chin; perhaps he could use the R System to play mind games with Hades.
Makarov stood up and walked to the railing on the second floor, calling out to Ur, who was at the stairs on the first floor, "Come up, Ur, and Ultear. What's going on?"
Ur nodded and responded, "Alright."
She then led Ultear upstairs.
Gaal brought over two stools and placed them beside a small table, while Makarov propped up the chair he had knocked over.
Ur and Ultear climbed up and sat on the stools.
Ur then spoke, "Ultear just told me something. She and Stinger were following Hades' orders to head to an island controlled by the Dark Magic Guild to seize control of the R System. But they hadn't succeeded yet when they received orders to relocate. After that, the battle happened. I wonder if this information helps you."
Makarov frowned, "More with the R System? We've already destroyed seven of them; why are they still building more? These guys just don't know when to quit."
As a Ten Wizard Saints, he had participated in missions issued by the Council, and destroying the R Systems was one of them.
Over the years, he remembered that the Council had gradually taken down seven of them. He never expected the Dark Magic Guild members were still continuing to build...
Gaal asked, "Seizing the R System? How do you seize it? Control their leader? Where are they in the process?"
Ultear trembled upon hearing Gaal's questions. Her fear of him was deeply ingrained; after all, her bones had shattered, and the treatment for tenfold pain left her instinctively terrified.
She quickly replied, "About that. It's just that the cultists from the Dark Magic Guild on the island are deeply rooted in their beliefs; brainwashing doesn't work on them, and using magic would easily give it away. So, after discussing with Stinger, we decided to target the exceptionally talented children among those laborers.
As long as we successfully brainwash those gifted children and make the cultists see their potential, they can pretend they've been brainwashed by the Dark Magic Guild and surely catch the eyes of the higher-ups in the guild. Then they can gradually reveal their talents and take control of the R System construction on the island. We were close to succeeding.
I had disguised myself as Zeref's spirit through magic and had already brainwashed them to ignite a rebellion against the cult members on the island to show their value. But then… Suddenly, we received news that we had to relocate. Plus, a massive tsunami hit unexpectedly. We don't even know how the situation on the island is now or if that child managed to start the rebellion. But after just one night, they probably haven't had time to launch the rebellion yet…"
As she spoke, Ultear's voice grew softer, eventually lowering her head and fidgeting with her fingers.
Gaal twitched his mouth, and Ur couldn't help but facepalm. Makarov, however, appeared calm as if he had been through larger troubles.
He spoke up, "I see… Do you still remember the position of the island? Are there any powerful cultists on the island?"
Ultear lifted her head to think for a moment, "I remember the position. As for powerful cultists…"
Ultear pondered, then shook her head, "No. The cultists on the island are just ordinary people from the Dark Magic Guild. The only stronger ones are those leaders, but they are just at the level of low-ranked mages. But they're too deeply brainwashed; using magic to control them would easily give it away, which is why we decided to target the laborers. Among those laborers, there are quite a few captured mages. But none of them have any magic power, so it's not a concern. Oh, right. And you Fairy Tail mages have a guy named… Rob, right? He's an old… gentleman. I don't know if you know him?"
Makarov suddenly froze at the mention of the name.
Bang!
He slammed his hand on the table, standing up violently, startling Ur and Ultear.
Makarov's incredulous voice echoed through the guild, "What?!!"
Ultear looked at Makarov, whose expression turned furious, and instinctively scooted her stool back a bit.
But immediately, she was stopped by Makarov's hand on her shoulder as he incredulously asked, "The Rob you mentioned, does he have a big nose? Sharp eyebrows? Are his eyebrows gray?!"
Ultear nodded like a chick pecking at rice, "Y-yes. Mr. Rob… has always been protecting the few kids I brainwashed; he almost caught on to me a few times. So I remember him quite well. His eyebrows and nose match your description perfectly."
Makarov was shaken to his core: "Rob…"
Today had been overwhelming with shocks. First, learning that Hades was the Second Generation Guild Master, and now finding out that an old friend, missing for years, was imprisoned on some island as a laborer constructing the R System?
Just the thought of an old friend, lost for many years, being kept imprisoned as a laborer set Makarov's rage ablaze.
The air pressure around him dropped as he looked at Ultear, "Ultear, can you still find your way now?"
Ultear's heart raced, and she quickly replied, "Yes."
Makarov nodded and looked at Gaal. Before Makarov could speak, Gaal had already pressed a button on his waist.
Whoosh—
A flash of light passed, and Dragonite appeared beside him: "Argh!"
Gaal looked at Makarov and asked, "Do you need me to go with you?"
Makarov shook his head and replied, "Dragonite is enough. You still need to handle things at the Council; you must clear your name. I don't trust Gildarts. I'm going to deal with those damned cultists!!!"
Makarov could no longer suppress his fury.
Seeing this, Gaal didn't refuse. He took the cable car cabin out of space and hung it on Dragonite's neck, instructing, "First, return to the sea area from yesterday, and then follow Ultear's directions."
Then Gaal pulled out a compass and handed it to Ultear.
The few of them stepped outside with Dragonite.
Makarov wasted no time and climbed into the cable car cabin; Ultear and Ur followed inside.
As Dragonite took off, they saw the floating vessel of the Magic Council descending. Wolfheim spotted Dragonite passing by with Makarov and shouted, "Makarov! Wait! Where are you going?! Hey! Makarov!!!"
Wolfheim was baffled and didn't understand what was happening.
Makarov left without even looking back.
Swish!
Gaal suddenly appeared on the deck of the floating vessel, and the surrounding soldiers quickly took defensive stances against Gaal.
Wolfheim raised his hand to signal everyone to relax and then asked, "Gaal, what happened with Makarov? He looks really grim."
Gaal clicked his tongue and replied, "Well… The guild master is probably off to commit murder. At the Council, the guild master tasked me with explaining yesterday's battle. Let's head directly to the Council; we shouldn't fall behind."
But Wolfheim was instantly startled, focusing intently on Gaal's words, "Murder? What murder?! Hey! Gaal, what's going on?! Quickly tell me!"
