Chapter 46: Ruins of Valyria

Alex sat in his study, staring at the map of the ruined Valyrian peninsula. His plan to explore the once-great empire's ruins was dangerous, but it was necessary to understand what mysteries or threats still lurked there. To ensure his safety, he decided to purchase specialized equipment from the system.

"System," Alex said aloud, "I need oxygen masks, ones capable of filtering out toxic air and ash. And prepare a survival kit just in case."

The system responded in its monotone voice.

"Oxygen masks added to inventory. Survival kit prepared. Good luck, host. Credits deductions 150".

Equipping himself with the necessary gear, Alex went to see the Ancalagon after informing his general know that he plans to go to Valyria. He didn't told Dani, became he didn't want her to stress about him.

Ancalagon lay basking in the sun, his massive black scales gleaming like polished obsidian. The dragon, now over 120 feet long, exuded an aura of sheer power.

"Ancalagon," Alex called, walking up to him.

The dragon turned his massive head toward Alex. "Yes, Father?" he asked, his voice deep and steady. Over the months, Ancalagon had mastered speech remarkably well.

"I want to take you to Valyria,"

"Valyria?"

Alex began. "It was the greatest empire of dragons the world has ever seen, the birthplace of your kind."

Ancalagon's amber eyes narrowed. "Valyria… where dragons ruled the skies?"

Alex nodded. "Yes, but it was destroyed nearly 400 years ago in a cataclysm called the Doom. I want to show you its ruins, but I also need to ensure it's safe before I bring Daenerys there."

Ancalagon growled softly. "If there is danger, I will protect you."

Alex smiled and patted his massive snout. "I know you will. Let's go."

The journey to Valyria was breathtaking. Riding on Ancalagon's back, Alex soared high above the waters of the Smoking Sea. The air grew heavier the closer they got, filled with an ominous haze that spoke of the lingering remnants of the Doom.

As the ruins of Valyria appeared on the horizon, Alex donned his oxygen mask. "Better safe than sorry," he muttered.

Ancalagon's voice rumbled beneath him. "I smell something… ."

The ruins were a haunting sight. Gigantic bridges stretched across the shattered land, their arches broken and crumbling. Massive structures lay buried under ash and debris, their former grandeur reduced to eerie silhouettes against the foggy sky.

Ancalagon landed cautiously on the edge of the western ruins, his claws sinking into the ashen ground. Alex remained on his back, surveying the landscape. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the faint hiss of steam vents scattered throughout the area.

They moved deeper into the ruins, the fog growing denser. Alex marveled at the remnants of the once-great civilization. "This is what happens when greed and arrogance go unchecked," he murmured.

Ancalagon growled softly, his voice resonating with unease. "Something is wrong here, Father. The air… it feels alive."

As they approached the remnants of a colossal mountain, now shattered and jagged, the ground beneath them trembled violently.

"Ancalagon, fly!" Alex shouted, gripping the dragon's saddle tightly.

With a powerful sweep of his wings, Ancalagon took to the skies just as the earth below erupted. A massive, serpentine creature burst forth, its scaled body as thick as a castle tower. Another followed, this one more worm-like but equally enormous, its gaping maw lined with razor-sharp teeth.

Alex's heart raced. The creatures were far larger than Ancalagon, their monstrous forms a testament to the unnatural horrors still lurking in Valyria.

"They're bigger than you," Alex muttered, his voice trembling. "But they can't fly."

Ancalagon growled, his wings flapping furiously to keep them aloft. "They are not dragons, Father. But they are dangerous."

It was a Fireworm. Alex had heard of them, but they are usually lot small than average dragons. As Alex was thinking he soon realised it could be to why this fireworms has grown soo big. It could have been because of Doom of valyria after that these Monstrous worms must have mutated and now grown to this huge size. Thankfully they were only on the edge of valyria, who know what hides in deep center of the ruins.

The creatures writhed and snapped at the air, their guttural roars echoing through the ruins. Ancalagon circled high above, staying out of their reach.

"We've seen enough," Alex said, his voice steady despite the fear coursing through him. "Let's get out of here."

Ancalagon roared in agreement, his massive form casting a shadow over the ruined city as he ascended higher. The beasts below bellowed in frustration, but they could do nothing as the dragon and his rider disappeared into the misty sky.

As they flew away from Valyria, Alex removed his oxygen mask and took a deep breath of clean air.

"That was… intense," he said.

Ancalagon growled softly. "We should not return, Father. That place is cursed. I felt it, in the air something is wrong in that place".

Alex nodded. "Agreed. But at least now I know what we're dealing with. I won't bring Daenerys here until I'm certain it's safe."

The dragon's voice softened. "Thank you for showing me, Father. Valyria may be gone, but its legacy lives on… in us."

Alex smiled, patting Ancalagon's scales. "Yes, it does. Now, let's go home."

The two flew back toward Pentos, leaving the haunted ruins of Valyria behind.

Later that day

The sun was setting as Alex and Ancalagon approached Pentos, their silhouettes casting long shadows over the city. Ancalagon's massive wings beat steadily as they descended, his form nearly blotting out the sky for those below. Alex felt a deep weariness, both from the journey and from the weight of what they had encountered in Valyria.

As they landed just outside the city gates, Alex spotted Daenerys waiting for them with a small contingent of her personal guards. She was dressed in a flowing silver gown, her expression a mix of worry and impatience.

"Welcome back," she said, her voice calm but her eyes sharp. "Where have you been?"

Alex slid off Ancalagon's back and approached her with a casual smile. "Just some father-son time," he said lightly, brushing the ash off his coat. Alex lied because he doesn't want her to stress about it and didn't wanna make a big deal out of it.

Daenerys raised an eyebrow, her gaze narrowing. "Father-son time? You disappeared for nearly a whole day without a word. What aren't you telling me, Alex?" but it turns out Daenerys wants to make a bug deal out of it.

Before Alex could deflect further, Daenerys turned her attention to Ancalagon. The dragon had settled into a crouch, his massive head resting on the ground as he observed the exchange.

"Ancalagon," she called, her tone firm. "Where did you and Alex go? Tell me the truth."

Ancalagon's golden eyes darted toward Alex, his expression uncertain. For a dragon so mighty, he suddenly looked like a scolded child. "Mother…" he began hesitantly, his voice deep and resonant, "we went—" Ancalagon's who didn't know what lying even means was so confused because he saw he his father telling something else to his mother, so he didn't know what to say.

"Wait," Alex interjected quickly, raising a hand. "It's not important, Daenerys. Really."

But Daenerys wasn't buying it. She stepped closer to Ancalagon, her gaze firm, like a mother who caught her son doing something wrong. "Ancalagon, you've never lied before. Do not start now. Tell me where you went and what happened."

The dragon shifted uncomfortably, his massive claws digging into the earth. He turned his head toward Alex again, clearly seeking guidance.

"Ancalagon," Daenerys said, her voice now edged with authority, "I am your mother. I love you, but I will not tolerate lies or silence. Speak."

Ancalagon let out a low rumble, torn between his loyalty to his father and his inability to deceive his mother. After a long pause, he finally spoke.

"We… went to Valyria," he admitted, his voice tinged with guilt. "To see the ruins. Father wanted to show me where dragons once ruled."

Daenerys's eyes widened in shock. "Valyria?" she echoed. "The cursed ruins? The land of the Doom? Why would you go there?"

Ancalagon hesitated but continued. "We saw… things. Creatures. They were large, bigger than me. They attacked from the ground."

Daenerys's expression hardened as she turned to Alex. "You took him to Valyria? You risked not only your life but his as well? Without telling me?"

Alex sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Daenerys, I didn't want to worry you. I thought it would be safe if we were careful. I needed to confirm if the ruins were dangerous before bringing you there."

"Safe?" Daenerys's voice rose, her anger evident. "You call encountering creatures larger than Ancalagon safe? You could have died, Alex. Both of you could have!"

"I didn't think it would be that bad," Alex admitted, his tone defensive. "And I wanted to learn more about the legacy of dragons."

Daenerys crossed her arms, her eyes blazing. "And you thought keeping this from me was the right thing to do? You put yourself and our son in danger for what? Curiosity?"

"I was trying to protect you," Alex said, his voice firm. "If I had known how dangerous it was, I wouldn't have gone."

Ancalagon, sensing the tension between his parents, spoke up. "Mother, I am sorry. I wanted to protect Father. I… I did not know we would face such creatures."

Daenerys's expression softened slightly as she looked at her dragon. She placed a hand on his massive snout. "I'm not angry with you, Ancalagon. But you must promise me something. If your father ever tries to do something this reckless again, you come to me first."

Ancalagon nodded solemnly. "I promise, Mother."

Daenerys turned back to Alex, her anger tempered but still simmering. "You cannot make decisions like this on your own, Alex. We are a family, a team. If you're going to put yourself or Ancalagon at risk, I have a right to know."

Alex nodded, realizing the gravity of his mistake. "You're right. I'm sorry, Daenerys. It won't happen again."

She sighed, the tension easing slightly. "Good. Because next time, I won't be so forgiving."

With that, she came hugging Alex with all her might as she was glad to see her husband back in one piece from the cursed land that once destroyed the strongest empire once ruled in the world.
