Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Madara stood on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, gazing at the distant towers of Hogwarts. The night air was crisp, and the castle glowed under the moonlight.
It was a sight to behold, yet Madara felt none of the awe he might have expected in his past life. Instead, his mind was focused on the events that had led him here.
He had gathered information, tested his abilities against magic, and begun to understand the balance of power in this world. Now, it was time to make his next move.
He had learned much from his previous encounters. The Death Eaters were scattered but still dangerous, the Ministry was rebuilding its authority, and Hogwarts remained the beacon of magic in Britain.
But what intrigued him most was the mention of the Department of Mysteries. If there was knowledge to be gained, power to be harnessed, it would be there.
Before he could enact any plans, however, he needed a base of operations. While the Forbidden Forest provided ample cover, it was not sustainable. He required a location hidden from both wizards and creatures alike.
With that in mind, he activated his Sharingan, scanning the terrain for suitable sites. After a few moments, he located a cavern concealed beneath ancient roots and thick foliage. It would do for now.
Using his chakra, he reshaped the entrance, sealing it with layers of earth and stone that only he could manipulate. Inside, he ignited a small flame, illuminating the damp walls. He sat down, contemplating his next step.
The floating panel before him reappeared, displaying a new notification:
[Quest Update: Discover Your Purpose]Progress: 40%New Objective: Acquire deeper knowledge of magical and shinobi arts.
Madara smirked. It seemed the system had plans for him beyond simple survival. That suited him just fine. If he was to carve his place in this world, he would need more than just brute strength.
Magic had its own complexities, and while his chakra-based abilities provided a formidable advantage, there was no harm in expanding his arsenal.
His mind wandered to the spells he had encountered so far. The wizards relied heavily on wands, channeling their magic through a medium. It was a weakness he could exploit, but also one he could manipulate.
He had no need for a wand, yet he wondered—could he weave magic into his chakra? Could he control magic the way he controlled ninjutsu?
He needed a test subject.
A few nights later, deep in the forest, he found what he was looking for—another wizard, a lone figure trudging cautiously through the dense trees. He was young, inexperienced, likely a student or a scout from the Ministry. Either way, he was perfect.
Madara moved with silent precision, appearing before the wizard in an instant. The man barely had time to react before he found himself paralyzed by an unseen force. Madara's Sharingan spun hypnotically, binding the wizard in an illusion before he could utter a single spell.
"Tell me," Madara said smoothly, "what do you know of wandless magic?"
The wizard's expression shifted between terror and confusion. "I-I don't know much," he stammered. "Only a few can use it properly—Dumbledore, Voldemort… some rare wizards."
Madara narrowed his eyes. That aligned with what he had suspected. If only a handful of wizards could perform magic without wands, it meant there was a deeper understanding of magic that most never reached. He needed to explore that realm himself.
Releasing the illusion, Madara allowed the wizard to collapse, unconscious from the mental strain. He would not remember their encounter. With that done, Madara turned and vanished into the night, his mind brimming with possibilities.
His next stop was Knockturn Alley. If there was any place in the wizarding world where forbidden knowledge was sold, it was there.
Disguised with a simple transformation jutsu, he navigated the dark alleys, his senses alert.
He passed shadowy figures huddled in corners, merchants peddling cursed artifacts, and wizards exchanging whispers of things best left unsaid. He reached Borgin and Burkes, the infamous shop known for dealing in dark magic.
As he stepped inside, the shopkeeper, a wiry old man with sunken eyes, eyed him warily. "What do you seek?" he asked in a hushed tone.
Madara leaned forward slightly. "Books on wandless magic."
The shopkeeper hesitated before nodding. He disappeared into the back and returned moments later with a dusty tome bound in dark leather. "This is rare knowledge," he said, his voice laced with caution. "Expensive, too."
Madara smirked, tossing a bag of galleons onto the counter. Money was of little consequence—he had taken what he needed from certain unfortunate wizards along the way.
The shopkeeper examined the coins before sliding the book across the counter.
As Madara took it, he felt a strange pulse emanating from the pages. This was what he needed.
Back in his hideout, he opened the book and began reading. The text detailed ancient techniques, ways to manipulate magic through sheer will rather than external tools.
It required a deep connection to one's magical core—something Madara did not possess naturally. But he had chakra, a force just as potent. He had already blended chakra with natural energy to unlock Sage Mode. What if he could do the same with magic?
He closed his eyes, focusing inward. He felt the chakra within him, the raw energy coursing through his body. Then, he reached out, seeking something else—the lingering traces of magic in the air, in the earth, in the very fabric of this world.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then, a spark.
A tingling sensation ran through his fingers, and as he opened his eyes, he saw it—a faint glow surrounding his hand, unlike chakra, yet familiar in its own way. He clenched his fist, and the glow dissipated. But it was enough.
Madara Uchiha had just taken his first step into mastering magic.
