Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Pinched By Seafood
"Lucky for me, I managed to cool off a bit with Natsuha last night," Hikari sighed, stretching his arms behind his head as he strolled through the school halls. "If not, I'd be ready to explode by now."
He mused about whether it was time to pay Coach Togo of the baseball club a visit. But then again, without a clear provocation or intent from the old guy, any confrontation would hardly earn him any Pure Love Points. Even if he did get some, it wouldn't be much.
'Wait… the baseball club…' Hikari's eyes lit up as an idea dawned on him.
'That's it! Akane got dragged into trouble because she joined the baseball club, and it gave that scumbag Coach Togo the leverage he needed to threaten her.'
Hikari's grin widened as he thought it through, 'In this world, school clubs seem to be hotspots for those damn 'bulls' to rear their ugly heads.'
If the baseball club had issues, there was no reason to assume other clubs didn't have their own problems. Just relying on his Pure Love Radar wasn't going to be enough—he needed to take initiative and investigate.
He remembered that the clubs were recruiting new members lately. 'Perfect. I can use the excuse of joining clubs to scout out any hidden threats, and with my abilities, I could expose every single bull lurking in the shadows, purify their dark intentions, and gain even more Pure Love Points in the process.'
Putting his phone down, Hikari leaned back in his chair, casually waiting for the morning self-study session to end.
As he scanned the classroom, he noticed three familiar figures glancing his way repeatedly—Reina Hamazaki and her two friends, the trio of fashionably dressed gals.
Their repeated, hesitant looks in his direction made it obvious they had something on their minds.
Hikari checked his phone's call history and immediately understood. Yesterday, he and Natsuha had been having such a great time that he hadn't checked his phone. When he finally did, he saw dozens of missed calls from unknown numbers around seven or eight in the evening.
It wasn't hard to connect the dots. The three gals had tried to visit him after school, only to find he wasn't home. No doubt they were annoyed with him now.
With their fiery personalities, they were likely more than just a little annoyed. It was strange, though—while they kept sneaking glances, they hadn't come over to confront him, 'Are they planning something?'
Despite his curiosity, Hikari shrugged it off. The three weren't much of a threat; whatever they were up to, he could handle it.
Just then, the morning bell rang, signaling the end of self-study. Hikari stood up, ready to head out and start his club exploration when he heard someone call out his name.
"Hikari-kun!"
He turned to find his assistant homeroom teacher, Shirakawa Miwa, waving at him from the classroom door.
"What's up, Shirakawa-Sensei?" Hikari asked, making his way over to her.
Shirakawa was wearing a crisp white blouse tucked into a fitted pencil skirt today, accentuating her incredible curves. The blouse strained over her chest, emphasizing her enviable figure, while her long, shapely legs were wrapped in black stockings that made her look both elegant and alluring.
Even as a teacher, Ms. Shirakawa was the dream woman for many male students. Seeing her calling Hikari over this early made more than a few boys glance his way in envy.
Hikari approached her, wondering if maybe there was a bull lurking near Ms. Shirakawa that he'd need to deal with.
"What's going on, Shirakawa-sensei?"
She smiled, her voice warm. "Oh, it's nothing serious. I just noticed you came to school empty-handed today—no breakfast, right?"
As she spoke, she pulled out two steaming hot breakfast boxes from behind her. "I went downstairs to grab something and thought I'd get you one too. Let's eat together."
Hikari chuckled. He had already eaten at the hotel with Natsuha, but there was no way he was going to tell Ms. Shirakawa that. Besides, with his enhanced physique, he could easily handle a second breakfast.
"Thanks a lot, Sensei," he replied with a smile.
Together, they headed to her office to enjoy the breakfast she'd bought.
——
As Hikari took his first bite of noodles, he suddenly winced and pulled back, letting out a hiss.
"Ouch… My mouth!"
Ms. Shirakawa reached over, patting him on the back. "Are you okay, Hikari-kun? Did you burn yourself?"
Hikari stuck out his tongue. "It's my tongue… it feels really sore."
"Let me take a look." Ms. Shirakawa leaned in, studying his tongue closely as he opened his mouth. "It looks a bit swollen. But it doesn't look like a burn. More like… you accidentally bit it?"
Realizing the potential implications, Hikari's eyes darted to the side. "Ah… now that you mention it, I think I know what happened. My cousin sent me some seafood last night, and I think I got pinched while eating it."
Ms. Shirakawa tilted her head curiously. "Pinched by seafood? What kind of seafood was it?"
Hikari almost blurted out the wrong word. "It was an… abalone. No, I mean, it was a scallop! Yeah, a scallop pinched me while I was eating it."
Ms. Shirakawa laughed, unable to hide her amusement. "Hikari-kun, you really are something. I've never heard of someone getting pinched by a scallop before. How cute."
