Chapter 83: Chapter 82

Once Gon gets his hands on this Seeking Umbrella, he can pinpoint Ging's exact location?

How is Ging supposed to play hard to get now?!

"What's the matter? Don't you think this is a good gift?"

Morin watched Ging remain silent, pretending to be oblivious as he asked the question.

Ging: "…It's not that it's bad—it's just too good!"

His eye twitched slightly. "Something this great… Gon—he—he doesn't deserve it. Let's go with something else."

Morin: "Alright, in that case…"

"How about this? The Seeking Cane. Just stand the cane upright and let it fall naturally. It'll point in the direction of the person you're looking for. Quite useful, though its accuracy is only about 70%."

Ging: "…Try again."

Morin: "Hmm, then how about the Target Radar? Let this radar record someone's appearance, and if they enter within a 1-kilometer range, it'll detect them."

Ging: "…Anything else?"

Morin: "Still not a fan? What about the Messenger Plane? Fold a piece of paper into a plane, let its nose remember your scent, and it can act as a carrier pigeon for delivering messages."

Ging: "…They're all tools for finding people! Don't you have anything else?!?!"

At this point, if Ging hadn't realized Morin was deliberately messing with him, he'd be unworthy of his reputation as a genius.

He felt like he was about to be played to death!

Ging sighed helplessly and muttered, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"

"What's wrong with that?" Morin teased. "If Gon ever wants to find you in the future, it'll save him a lot of trouble."

"Let's not, okay?"

Ging waved his hands quickly.

"Making that brat rely on tools to find me would rob him of valuable experience!"

"As a great man, he needs to overcome all kinds of hardships and setbacks to achieve his goals. That's the true meaning of life!!"

Ging spoke with a self-righteous expression, as if he were truly thinking of Gon's growth.

Well, setting aside Ging's methods, looking at the path he'd laid out for Gon, it did seem like he had some sense of responsibility as a parent.

But when it came to fulfilling basic fatherly duties… disappearing for twelve years, sneaking home only to observe his child from the shadows, and never meeting him in person?

It wasn't until Kite arrived on Whale Island that Gon even learned he had a father.

To be a father like Ging… was truly one of a kind.

"Alright, since you're so insistent, I'll stop joking."

Morin put away the various "seeking tools" and ended his teasing.

He turned his hand and pulled out a new item.

It was a seemingly ordinary hat with alternating blue and red patterns.

"This is the Monster Hat," Morin said, weighing the hat in his hand. "It's got some pretty unique effects."

"A hat-type item? The Monster Hat?"

Ging rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "The name sounds promising. If Gon grows up to be a monster, that'd be perfect!"

"No, Gon is my son. He's bound to become a monster in the future! Hahaha!!"

Ging laughed heartily, scratching the back of his head, his joy leaving Morin speechless.

With a father this unreliable but undeniably skilled, Gon's fate felt like a mix of fortune and misfortune.

"So, how do you use this?"

Ging took the hat and examined it closely.

"Just put it on your head," Morin instructed.

"Like this?"

Ging tried it on himself.

"Huh?"

Almost immediately, he let out a sound of surprise.

"My cheeks?"

He pinched his own face curiously and then gave it a hard tug.

Squeak?

Ging's face stretched out unnaturally long, like rubber, and he didn't feel any pain at all!

"Stretchable, flexible, and incredibly elastic, just like rubber!"

Snap!

He let go, and his stretched-out cheek snapped back into place with a crisp sound.

There was no discomfort or pain whatsoever.

"It's not just my face—my whole body feels like rubber! I can stretch and extend freely?"

Ging tried a few moves, stretching his arms and legs.

Each part extended and retracted with ease.

"This is a pretty fascinating item!"

Experiencing the Monster Hat for the first time, Ging couldn't help but praise it.

He even started brainstorming combat techniques.

With a rubber-like body, he could take advantage of its stretchability, insulation, resistance to blunt force, and rebound capabilities.

In battle, these qualities would make for an impressive asset.

"I'm sure Gon will love this item."

"Is that so?"

Morin watched Ging's eyes light up with excitement, as if stars were twinkling in them, and nodded lightly. "Glad to hear it."

Though, it seemed more like Ging was the one who loved it.

Item: Monster Hat

Effect: Wearing this hat makes your body as elastic as rubber, allowing you to stretch and extend your limbs at will.

This hat is similar to the rubber powers of Luffy from One Piece, granting the wearer abilities akin to eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi.

However, unlike a Devil Fruit, it's just a hat—take it off, and the powers disappear.

Morin couldn't help but think: a protagonist from Hunter x Hunter with powers reminiscent of a One Piece protagonist—what a fun homage.

Ging had a blast playing with the Monster Hat, but after testing it, he realized one flaw.

"So, this hat isn't bound to its owner? Anyone who takes it can use its effects, right?"

"That's correct," Morin nodded.

Then, as if he'd anticipated this concern, he pulled out another item.

"But with this, that won't be a problem."

Morin revealed a spray bottle, blue-green in color and shaped like a papaya.

"Just spray this on the item you want to protect, and no one else will be able to take it, no matter what."

Item: Belonging Spray

Effect: Spray this on any item to make it exclusively yours. No one else will be able to take it, regardless of their abilities.

Just have Gon use the spray on the Monster Hat. That way, it'll belong to him forever," Morin explained, handing over the spray. "Not even the strongest Nen user can steal it."

"Seriously?"

Ging, like a curious child, inspected the spray bottle with wide eyes.

Then, he took Gon's tiny hand and used it to press the nozzle, spraying the Monster Hat.

Swoosh.

A white mist enveloped the air, with a scattering of starlight emerging from the hat.

"Let me see."

Ging tried to put the hat on again to test its effects.

However, the moment he picked up the hat, it suddenly shot out of his hand uncontrollably.

The force was far beyond Ging's grip strength, and the hat instantly escaped from his hold.

It couldn't be taken.

"It's all his now, no matter what," Morin remarked with a sly smile.

Ging watched helplessly as the hat landed on Gon's sleeping form. The boy instinctively grabbed it with his soft, small hands, clutching it tightly as he drooled, his face adorned with a goofy smile. Clearly, he was enjoying a pleasant dream.

"What an amazing tool!!"

Seeing this, Ging couldn't help but express his admiration.

Indeed, it was an incredible item.

Morin simply smiled without a word. This spray was one of the few causal tools he had drawn that possessed such overwhelmingly powerful effects.

It wasn't limited to inanimate objects. It could also be used on living things.

Living things—naturally, that included people.

In Doraemon, Nobita had used this spray on Shizuka.

After being sprayed, Shizuka had forsaken Dekisugi entirely and obediently went to Nobita's house, sitting in a kneeling position, waiting for him.

Even when Doraemon offered snacks or games to play, her answer remained unwavering:

"I'm waiting for Nobita. Without his permission, I won't play with anyone else."

Even when night fell and her parents called, asking her to come home, Shizuka cried, refusing to leave. She insisted on waiting for Nobita.

This kind of tool, capable of influencing a person's will and emotions, was truly terrifying.

Morin rarely used such tools.

Firstly, their usage costs were significant.

Secondly, in this world of Nen users, indiscriminate use of such items could lead to disastrous consequences.

Ging, after trying several times and still failing to retrieve the Monster Hat from Gon's grasp, finally gave up.

If even Ging couldn't take it back, no other Nen user would stand a chance.

"You're so thoughtful toward Gon. I'll thank you on his behalf."

Ging expressed his gratitude, but a hint of reluctance lingered in his gaze as it flickered toward the Monster Hat.

Clearly, he hadn't gotten his fill of playing with it yet.

Morin's primary reason for spraying the Exclusive Spray wasn't just to prevent Gon from losing the hat in the future.

He also wanted to ensure that Ging, his unreliable father, wouldn't steal it for himself while taking Gon back to Whale Island.

A normal father wouldn't snatch his child's belongings.

But Ging…

Well, let's just say it couldn't be ruled out. There wasn't anything Ging wouldn't do.

"Since you've given my son such a valuable gift, I can't just do nothing in return."

Ging glanced at Morin's companion, the silent, stoic Kastro, who had been quietly listening to the two veterans converse.

"Is this your younger brother?"

Ging tilted his head. "You both look handsome, but there's not much resemblance. Half-brothers?"

"He's my disciple," Morin corrected, gesturing toward Kastro. The latter stepped forward and gave a polite bow.

"Kastro. Greetings, Ging-san."

"A disciple, huh?"

Ging's eyes lit up with understanding. "I assumed you two were brothers because you're so close in age."

"Though, having a disciple around the same age isn't that unusual."

Ging scratched his head as he realized something. "Come to think of it, I also have a disciple who's not much younger than me."

Ging's disciple, Kite, wasn't that much younger than him in the grand scheme of things.

"What's his type?" Ging asked curiously.

Kastro, understanding the question, answered honestly:

"Enhancement."

"Enhancement, huh? Just as I thought…"

Ging nodded, mulling it over. "Have you developed your Hatsu yet?"

"Not yet," Kastro admitted, shaking his head. "Master said I should first focus on honing the fundamental Nen techniques here on the island. Once I've fully mastered them, then I can work on creating my Hatsu."

"Ah, I see."

Ging scratched his cheek and cleared his throat.

"Well, stick with your master for now. Once I drop Gon back at Whale Island, I'll come back and help you figure out what kind of Hatsu to develop."
