Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A Skill That Surprised Kakashi
"Bulbasaur, let's try again!"
At the training ground, Naruto stood excitedly next to a tree stump, watching Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur quickly moved forward, charging at the tree stump with full force.
Bang! The stump shook slightly from the impact.
Seeing this, Naruto smiled and ran over excitedly.
"Awesome, Bulbasaur! Your attacks are getting stronger!"
"Ganeya~"
Hearing Naruto's praise, Bulbasaur wore a smug expression, as if saying, You're just now noticing?
Of course, someone as dense as Naruto couldn't pick up on that. He simply hugged Bulbasaur tightly, his excitement growing even more.
But unlike Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke, who were training nearby, were completely stunned and almost speechless.
From the start of training until now, it had only been a few hours—it wasn't even noon yet.
Yet Bulbasaur had grown significantly stronger.
At first, its tackle couldn't even make the tree stump move. But now, it made the stump shake visibly.
They both clearly understood how massive this improvement was. It was the kind of progress that even ninja wouldn't achieve after a week of hard training.
"N-Naruto, are you sure this summoning beast was a gift from someone?"
After a moment of shock, Sakura couldn't help but ask.
She hadn't been too curious before. Although Wood Release was impressive, she didn't know how powerful it truly was and therefore wasn't too interested.
But now, seeing how quickly Bulbasaur improved, she couldn't hold back her curiosity any longer. The speed of its progress was terrifying—far beyond anything a ninja could achieve in a week.
"Huh?"
Naruto snapped out of his excitement and turned to look at her. "Oh, you mean Bulbasaur? Yeah, Brother Ryo gave it to me. He even said that one day, Bulbasaur will be stronger than the Hokage!"
Hearing this, Sasuke's eyes twitched slightly, though he didn't say anything.
Sakura, however, was left speechless. "Naruto, you must have been tricked. How could a summoning beast be stronger than the Hokage?"
She didn't even need to think about it—it was obviously a lie.
"No way! Brother Ryo wouldn't lie to me. Bulbasaur is definitely going to be super strong!"
"Ganeya!"
Bulbasaur nodded firmly, its eyes filled with determination.
"You idiot, Naruto. Bulbasaur doesn't even have chakra. How could it possibly be stronger than the Hokage?"
Sakura looked at Naruto like he was a complete fool. Did he sleep through class? How could he not know such basic knowledge?
"Huh?"
Naruto blinked in confusion. "It doesn't have chakra?"
He grabbed Bulbasaur and examined it from different angles.
Sakura covered her face in frustration. You've had it for this long, and you just now realized this?
Even Sasuke couldn't maintain his usual composure. The corner of his mouth twitched. "Idiot."
He turned around and resumed his training, not bothering to watch anymore.
"Hey, you smug jerk! What did you just say? I'm challenging you!"
Naruto exploded in anger, glaring at Sasuke.
"Pointless," Sasuke replied coldly without even turning around.
"Ahhh!"
Naruto roared in frustration.
Sakura stood to the side, unsure of what to say. At this point, I'm already used to it, she thought.
"Well, well. It seems you're not practicing seriously."
Kakashi suddenly appeared beside them, his calm voice catching them off guard.
"Kakashi-sensei! You're here!"
Sakura's eyes lit up with joy. She quickly shook her head and said, "We've been training really hard, Kakashi-sensei!"
"Yeah, totally!" Naruto nodded in agreement.
Kakashi nodded and turned his gaze toward Bulbasaur. "Naruto, can I see what Bulbasaur is capable of?"
He was far more curious about this creature than the kids were.
After all, this wasn't just any summoning beast—it had Wood Release, the signature ability of the First Hokage. How could he not be curious about it?
Moreover, since the Hokage had asked him to gather information about Ryo, understanding this summoning beast was a good place to start.
"You... want to fight Bulbasaur?"
Naruto's eyes widened, his expression turning strange.
Sasuke and Sakura were just as confused, staring at Kakashi in disbelief.
This Bulbasaur looks like it just started training. Why would Kakashi, an elite Jonin, fight it?
That's like bullying a six-year-old, they thought.
"Ahem."
Kakashi cleared his throat awkwardly, noticing their reactions. "I'm not fighting it. I just want to test its abilities."
"Oh, okay then. Bulbasaur, it's up to you now."
"Ganeya!"
Bulbasaur nodded and stepped forward, standing opposite Kakashi.
Naruto grew a bit worried. I hope Bulbasaur doesn't hurt its butt…
Bulbasaur didn't hesitate. It let out a cry and charged toward Kakashi.
"Taijutsu? Decent speed," Kakashi remarked, dodging the attack with a swift step.
"Ganeya! Ganeya!"
After missing its attack, Bulbasaur quickly extended vines from its back, lashing toward Kakashi.
Kakashi's expression grew serious. He pulled a kunai from his pouch and slashed at the incoming vines.
Swish! Swish!
The vines were cut into pieces and fell to the ground.
Kakashi's eyes filled with confusion. These vines don't feel like Wood Release. They lack that strong vitality, and there's no chakra fluctuation.
"Ganeya!"
As Kakashi pondered, Bulbasaur let out another cry.
For a brief moment, Kakashi felt his emotions go slightly out of control, though the effect was minimal.
"Genjutsu? But why is there no chakra involved?"
Kakashi was even more puzzled. How is it using jutsu without chakra?
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a seed shot toward Kakashi.
"Something's wrong," Kakashi muttered as a sense of danger washed over him. He swiftly dodged the attack.
The seed hit the ground and merged with the soil.
"What the—?"
Kakashi's eyes widened in shock as the grass around the seed quickly withered, transforming into energy that flew back into Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur looked visibly rejuvenated.
"Ganeya~"
Bulbasaur had no idea what Kakashi was thinking. Feeling its energy rise, it extended its vines again and launched another Tackle.
Bang!
This time, Kakashi didn't dodge. He raised one hand and blocked the attack effortlessly. His body didn't move an inch.
"That's enough."
"Ganeya~"
Bulbasaur stopped its attack, looking a bit disappointed.
"Are you okay, Bulbasaur?"
Naruto ran over and crouched beside Bulbasaur, his eyes filled with concern.
Bulbasaur shook its head. "Ganeya~"
But the disappointment in its eyes didn't fade.
Kakashi nodded thoughtfully, his eyes gleaming with admiration as he looked at Naruto.
This Bulbasaur might not have a large body or overwhelming strength yet, and it didn't even have chakra.
But that wasn't important. Its abilities were powerful and didn't require chakra to activate—especially that seed move. Even now, Kakashi found it hard to believe.
Maybe it could learn to cultivate chakra in the future.
For now, Bulbasaur was still young. But judging by its current power, if it grew stronger, it could potentially rival the legendary summoning beasts of the Three Great Sage Regions.
How could Kakashi not be envious?
Gurgle—
A loud rumble echoed from Bulbasaur's stomach.
Bulbasaur looked embarrassed.
Everyone's gaze turned to Naruto.
Sakura sighed, rolling her eyes. "Naruto, you didn't forget to feed Bulbasaur, did you?"
"Haha..." Naruto scratched his head awkwardly and nodded.
Sakura facepalmed and picked up her lunchbox. She walked over to Bulbasaur and offered it. "Here, Bulbasaur. Have some of my lunch."
Bulbasaur sniffed it and shook its head.
"I..."
Sakura froze. Did it just reject my food?
Is my cooking really that bad?
