Chapter 43: Chapter 43 – Date or Duel

"Oh my, oh my! This kid really has talent!"

Jiraiya was the first to speak, clearly enjoying the show. He laughed and said,

"Orochimaru, this kid should be my student!"

Orochimaru replied, "Then I won't let him near you anymore. You idiot, Jiraiya—you'd just corrupt Kiyosuke."

Hiruzen Sarutobi felt a headache coming on. Kids these days were getting ahead of themselves way too early...

"What the hell is that idiot Kiyosuke doing?" Asuma asked in confusion.

"Wasn't he supposed to be fighting? Though I'll admit… the kunoichi from Sunagakure are pretty cute."

"You boys are all the same—useless!" Kurenai huffed and looked away.

Asuma quickly tried to defend himself.

"Kurenai! I'm nothing like Kiyosuke, okay?"

"Hmph."

"..." Shinku said nothing.

"So bold! That's Kiyosuke for you—he's already doing things I wouldn't dare try!" Obito clenched his fists. Should I confess to Rin once I become a Chūnin?

Kakashi just gave him a look that screamed, You idiot.

"Hahaha! What's with this Konoha genin? Is he here to flirt?"

"Seriously! He's just a kid, too!"

"This is hilarious. I'm dying to know how that girl's gonna respond. Hey! What kind of guy do you like?"

Over on the Sunagakure side, people were fired up—especially Pakura's teammates. A buzzcut boy shouted,

"Hey! Konoha genin! Don't you dare try anything with Pakura! You bastard! I'll beat you to death!"

"Yeah! Don't think you can get away with anything just 'cause you're handsome! Pakura's not some shallow girl!"

"Ref! Can we switch opponents? Let me in—I'm gonna beat the crap outta that guy!"

The proctor rubbed his temples, but seeing Hiruzen watching with a smile and not interfering, he chose to stay quiet. He only reminded the Sunagakure side not to cause trouble during the match.

Pakura's face flushed bright red at Kiyosuke's question. Her serious expression cracked into panic for a moment, but she quickly composed herself.

"That's for sure. I hate guys like you!"

"Oh really? That's a shame... You're so cute—I bet if I punched you, you'd burst into tears."

Pakura: "..."

Scumbag! She fumed. He just asked what kind of guy I like, and now he's talking about hitting me?!

Everyone: "..."

Weren't you just flirting with her?! How did it escalate this fast?!

No one could follow Kiyosuke's train of thought. But Pakura understood that he was just messing with her. Blushing furiously, she threw a handful of shuriken in a flustered rage.

Kiyosuke flipped backward to dodge. Pakura followed, her dainty fists aiming straight for his face—as if trying to bash it in.

He caught her arm mid-strike, pulled her toward him, and drove his knee into her stomach—no hesitation, no mercy.

Gritting her teeth through the pain, Pakura stepped back.

"So that question... you were just trying to throw me off, weren't you? Clever."

She'd figured it out—the question was a tactic, meant to enrage her into making a mistake.

"Nope."

Kiyosuke smiled, his tone surprisingly sincere.

"I really just wanted to know what kind of guy you like."

What a twisted guy!

"I'm not falling for the same trick twice. But... if you can beat me, become a Chūnin, and survive all that... I might consider going on a date with you."

"Aaah! Go out with me instead, Pakura-chan!" someone from Sunagakure cried out.

"Yeah! What's so great about that pretty boy from Konoha?!"

"He's just got a good face, nothing else!"

"You're wrong! Pakura-chan would never lose to some smooth-talking Konoha punk! Go, Pakura-chan!"

Asuma, loyal bro that he was, noticed how Sunagakure was rallying behind Pakura and felt he had to step up. Locking eyes with Obito across the field, he shouted,

"Kiyosuke! Beat her! I'll cover your date expenses!"

"Yeah! Asuma's paying for the whole date! Go get her, Kiyosuke!"

"..." Asuma.

"..." Hiruzen.

This brat... maybe it's time to give up on him. I'll go home and talk to my wife about having a third kid instead...

"When you're older," Kiyosuke said with a bored look, "maybe. I'm not interested in flat-chested little girls. I like mature older women. So how about this—ten years from now, if you're still alive, come to Konoha. We'll go on a date then."

Even Orochimaru's mouth twitched.

Jiraiya's eyes went wide.

Such cunning! Such long-term planning! This level of scheming... it was genius. If I had been this smooth back in the day, I wouldn't still be single!

But seriously... what a little perv. Not much ability now, but in ten years?

Yikes...

Hiruzen looked at Orochimaru. "Are you sure this one's your student? Not Jiraiya's?"

"...I don't know."

For a brief second, even Orochimaru felt like this student wasn't his.

"Fine! But if you die before then, don't blame me!" Pakura huffed.

They were ninja—any day could be their last. This guy might not even make it to tomorrow!

But Pakura was fiery. She snorted. "Just wait—I'll become someone worth your attention!"

She would become a mature older woman someday! Right now... she just hadn't grown into it yet!

"I'm looking forward to it," Kiyosuke said with a grin.

Pakura smirked. "Let's see if you can beat me first! Fire Style: Phoenix Fire Jutsu!"

Flames burst from her mouth—small fireballs flying toward Kiyosuke, cutting off his path.

Kiyosuke clapped his hands together.

"Wind Style: Gale Palm!"

A gust of wind surged out, scattering the fireballs. Pakura was already closing in, kunai in hand. Her slim figure moved with incredible speed—before anyone knew it, she was right in front of him.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Their kunai clashed. Kiyosuke countered every blow calmly, defending with confidence and ease.

Pakura gritted her teeth and pressed harder. Kiyosuke began to fall behind, and soon showed a tiny opening.

She pounced on it. Her kunai aimed for his throat—but at the last moment, he twisted his head aside and barely dodged.

Pakura moved to follow up, but suddenly pain exploded in her arm.

Kiyosuke had landed a palm strike to her forearm, knocking the kunai from her hand.

His other fist, already cocked, launched forward with power.

Bam!

A direct hit.

Pakura went flying, twisted midair, and landed gracefully—but clutched her stomach.

Ow. That's gonna bruise...

"You've been playing dumb this whole time, haven't you?" she hissed.

"Not quite. I just gave you an opening on purpose. My turn now. Wind Style: Wind Cutter!"

Kiyosuke formed hand signs and unleashed a slicing gust of wind toward Pakura.

"Wind Style: Wind Reversal!"
