Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Victory
"What a pain... Wind Style: Wind Cutter Jutsu!"
The wind blade sliced through Water, but another one came flying in. Kiyosuke wasn't about to block it head-on.
"Blazing Barrier!"
A wall of fire surged up, intercepting the Water Bullet. Just then, Kakashi charged in with his blade.
Kiyosuke immediately pulled out a kunai, and the two clashed head-to-head.
Their fierce battle left many spectators stunned. No one expected two bratty genin from Konoha to be this strong. Were they really just genin?
So this... this is what Konoha's ninja are like?
Pakura looked on with mixed feelings. She hadn't expected Kiyosuke to be this powerful. If he'd gone all-out back when they fought, she wouldn't have stood a chance. But how did he know so many jutsu that didn't even require hand seals?
She realized that as long as it was a Fire Style technique, Kiyosuke never used hand signs. Could he be a kekkei genkai user too?
For a moment, she couldn't make sense of it.
...
Up in the stands, Hiruzen Sarutobi watched the two with satisfaction. These two were undoubtedly Konoha's future. And Kiyosuke—he was Orochimaru's disciple. That made him a direct heir to the Hokage line. If nurtured properly, he might not become Hokage, but at the very least, he'd reach Kage-level strength.
As for Kakashi—his talent was no less than his father's. If he kept developing at this pace, there was a real chance he'd become the next White Fang of Konoha.
...
Down in the arena, Kiyosuke and Kakashi exchanged blow after blow in close combat. Kiyosuke's swordsmanship wasn't quite at Kakashi's level, but his taijutsu made up for it. And to make things more difficult, snakes slithered from Kiyosuke's body mid-fight, constantly forcing Kakashi on the defensive.
Clang!
They clashed and leapt apart. Kiyosuke tossed aside his chipped kunai.
"Kakashi, you really are something," he said. "You're strong... but I'm not losing to you!"
With that, flames erupted around his right leg.
"Bring it on!"
Kakashi paused, slightly out of breath. His chakra was running lower than expected—but it was still enough to take down Kiyosuke.
Kiyosuke soared high into the air and came crashing down toward Kakashi with a blazing kick.
"Take this!!!"
The flames around his leg burned even fiercer, like a falling meteor. The speed was overwhelming—no way to dodge. Kakashi narrowed his eyes and clapped his hands together.
"Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall!"
A barrier of earth rose up—only to be shattered by a single fiery kick. Smoke and debris filled the air.
Then, a cold blade pressed against Kiyosuke's neck.
"Don't move. You've lost," Kakashi said.
"No... you lost."
Kiyosuke grinned as his body turned into fire, and his palm struck Kakashi square in the chest. Kakashi was sent flying into a wall. Before he could catch his breath, he rolled to the side to dodge another strike.
Boom!
Kiyosuke's flaming kick smashed into the wall where Kakashi had just been, leaving a deep crater.
Kakashi seized the opening and landed a clean punch to Kiyosuke's chest, knocking him backward.
Kiyosuke clutched his chest. This time, he hadn't turned to flame—he'd taken that hit full force.
This guy's way tougher than that jōnin from Kumogakure...
The real problem was, Kiyosuke couldn't risk using his Ultra Bomb. He was afraid it might actually kill Kakashi. Otherwise, this fight would've ended long ago.
...
"No holding back!"
He wasn't about to give Kakashi the time to strategize. The guy's too smart—if this dragged out, Kiyosuke might lose. And he wasn't letting that happen.
Full offensive!
That was the only path forward.
"Water Style: Wild Water Wave!"
"Solar Blaze!"
Their jutsu collided again. The battle remained deadlocked.
"Damn it... is Kakashi always this strong when he's not low on chakra?"
Kiyosuke hadn't expected him to be this formidable when fully energized. His swordplay, ninjutsu, and taijutsu were practically flawless. If this continued, he'd definitely become the next White Fang of Konoha.
No wonder he was destined to be the Sixth Hokage.
But I'm not giving up!
Time to ramp things up—
"Heeyah! Fire Fist!"
With a shout, Kiyosuke hurled a massive flaming punch at Kakashi.
"Earth Style: Multiple Earth Walls!"
Several earthen barriers rose up, successfully blocking the Fire Fist.
"Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
A swarm of Kiyosuke clones rushed forward. One of them burst into flames from head to toe.
Kakashi's heart sank. He recognized that technique. The destructive power was terrifying. Was Kiyosuke really planning to use that against him?
Then all the clones burst into flames, blocking his line of sight.
As Kakashi tried to read the situation, the real Kiyosuke burst through the smoke with arms outstretched.
But Kakashi was ready—he grabbed Kiyosuke's wrists.
"Got you!"
"No... I got you."
Kiyosuke gripped Kakashi tightly. From his sleeves, several snakes slithered out and sank their fangs into Kakashi's arms.
"Ugh!"
Kakashi shuddered. The venom began spreading through his bloodstream, slowing him down. He could no longer let go. The snakes wrapped around him tightly.
The battle was over.
"The winner—Asakawa Kiyosuke!"
Kakashi had lost the ability to fight. Victory naturally went to Kiyosuke.
"YOSSHAAA!! Nice one, Kiyosuke!! Hahaha!!" Obito was the first to cheer—like he'd won the match himself.
Minato and Rin looked on from the side, both a bit exasperated.
Kakashi's skin was starting to turn pale from the venom. The referee turned to Kiyosuke and said,
"You won, so... how about you remove the snake venom?"
Kiyosuke scratched his head, embarrassed.
"Uh... yeah, about that... I haven't learned how yet."
"…"
"…"
Hiruzen sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Orochimaru, go help Kakashi—and teach him how to neutralize the venom while you're at it. We can't have this becoming a problem later."
Until he actually learns to detoxify his own poisons, we'd better keep him from using venomous snakes inside the village...
Orochimaru nodded and walked over to Kakashi.
"Watch carefully. This is how you remove venom."
"Yes, sensei."
Kiyosuke focused intently as Orochimaru inspected the bite marks, identified which snake had done it, and then summoned a second snake—the natural enemy of the first—to bite Kakashi again.
Within moments, Kakashi began to recover.
...
Okay... yeah... I don't think I can learn this...
"These snakes—some of their venoms neutralize others. They're natural enemies. When you get back, memorize which ones counter which. Understand?" Orochimaru instructed.
"Yes, sir." Kiyosuke nodded. Looked like he'd be getting a full encyclopedia of venomous snakes soon.
...
Kakashi wobbled to his feet, still dizzy. Kiyosuke helped him back to the stands.
"You're really strong, Kiyosuke."
"Not bad yourself. Didn't expect you to be that good."
"I'm still not as good as you."
"Haha, obviously."
"…" I was just trying to be polite... forget it.
...
Kiyosuke glanced toward the Sunagakure group. Pakura felt his gaze, huffed, and turned away.
A date...? Maybe in ten years.
Ten years from now, she was going to make sure this guy saw her in a whole new light!
And who knows if he'd even be alive by then!
