Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Jinin Akebino

Kiyosuke's water clone surged toward the shadow clone, swinging the decapitating sword in hand. He cut it in two just before it could vanish—but once a clone's body becomes elemental, even a shadow clone can attain that ability.

...

Jūzō Biwa's shadow clone, whose blade had just swung, couldn't retract in time. It grabbed the water clone by the throat, flames erupting from its mouth.

The water clone collapsed into a puddle. The shadow clone waved dismissively and said,

"Is this all the strength the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist have? Not very impressive!"

"That little brat!"

Jūzō Biwa's face darkened. Being belittled by a kid stung especially badly, and he snarled at Jinin Akebino—who was clumsily wielding the Blunt Blade—"Hey, Jūzō, you can't even deal with a single brat? What a disgrace to the Seven Swordsmen!"

"Step up if you think you can!" Jūzō Biwa roared.

Jinin Akebino gripped a hammer in one hand and a blade in the other.

"Fine. Watch and learn what real skill is…"

"Fire Gun!"

A burst of fiery sparks shot through the air, interrupting him. Flames roared up Kiyosuke's arm as he declared,

"You talk too much. None of you stand a chance against me."

"Arrogant brat—I'll wipe you out!"

Fuguki Suikazan, pressed Samehada's tail against his back and readied to strike.

"Partial Multiplier Technique!"

Shibi took a single punch, then suddenly surged in size. Fuguki Suikazan slammed his blade up to block, but the sheer force sent him flying.

"Shibi, get him moving. And… how many Gates of the Eight Gates can you open?" Torifu asked Might Duy.

"All eight gates, no problem!"

"Impressive," Torifu said, astonished. He couldn't believe someone this talented remained hidden. Then he added, "You don't need to open all eight gates—five or six will do. I need you to handle one of the Seven Swordsmen."

Opening five or six gates was more than enough to take on a single swordsman.

"All right! Watch closely—this is Dad's prime in action! Sixth Gate!"

Shockwaves rippled outward with incredible force.

"Dad!"

Guy's eyes brimmed with tears of excitement. Seeing his father unleash such power was amazing.

"Amazing, indeed!"

Torifu watched in awe. He had never seen anyone open to the Sixth Gate—after all, only those who specialize in taijutsu rather than ninjutsu would even attempt the Eight Gates. Such people were rare among shinobi.

Kiyosuke glanced back, impressed. Even if his strength paled next to Duy's—who almost ended everything with a single kick—his power was still formidable. Without their arrival, the Seven Swordsmen would have been wiped out.

In an instant, Might Duy shot forward, heading straight for Kushimaru Kuriarare—the one who'd said he'd skewer his son and his teammates.

How dare you threaten my son!

Duy threw a punch, moving so fast it was almost invisible. Kushimaru barely dodged—Duy's fist grazed his hair. Even through his mask, he could feel the force behind that blow.

A swarm of insects burst forth under Aburame Shibi's command, blackening the sky as they flew toward the wielder of the dual swords Hiramekarei.

With four of the Seven Swordsmen now distracted, Kiyosuke felt his burden lighten. His clones exploded in tandem, scattering Jūzō Biwa, Raiga Kurosuki, Jinpachi Munashi, and Jinin Akebino.

"Now that you're all split up, it's a lot easier on me."

He chuckled quietly and made a beeline for Jinin Akebino, the wielder of Kabutowari—the blunt sword and hammer combo.

Kabutowari was said to be able to break through any defense—but the trick was in the follow-through. First, the sword would slash down, then the hammer would slam the blade from behind to add impact.

Break through any defense? Sure. Let him try that on Orochimaru or the First Hokage's Rashomon gates. Bet he couldn't even scratch them.

Purely physical attacks like that didn't worry Kiyosuke.

No special tricks—he just charged in with the most direct approach: taijutsu!

"You little idiot! You came straight at me? You're dumber than you look!"

Jinin brought Kabutowari down in a heavy swing.

Kiyosuke immediately drew two kunai and crossed them to catch the blade.

Jinin smirked. "Naive."

The hammer in his other hand slammed down onto the flat of the blade.

The force shattered both kunai, and the blunt sword continued its arc downward.

Kiyosuke's body was split in two.

Just as Jinin grinned victoriously, a flaming hand reached for his face from behind.

He tried to retreat—but it was too fast.

The fire-covered hand slammed into his face, and he screamed, rolling to the ground, clutching his burning head. He didn't even try to pick up his weapons.

Kiyosuke hefted the blunt sword experimentally.

"Huh. Kinda heavy. Doesn't suit me."

He scoffed. "What a trash weapon. Just here to make up the numbers, huh?"

Still grumbling, he raised the weapon and swung it toward the fallen Jinin.

Jūzō Biwa's Executioner's Blade intercepted the strike.

"Hey, hey, you can't just kill him."

"Why not? He's useless. It's not like you can't find another guy to use this thing." Kiyosuke laughed and slammed the hammer onto the blade's back.

A crack formed on Jūzō's sword.

In terms of breaking power, Kabutowari had the edge over the Executioner's Blade.

Fortunately, the Executioner's Blade repaired itself with the iron in blood—so as long as it kept killing, it would stay intact.

"True, but finding a new sword wielder isn't easy."

Every single wielder of the Seven Ninja Swords was hard to replace. Even if Jinin was a pain in the ass, they were still a team.

If no successor could be found, Kabutowari would just sit in a warehouse gathering dust—and the Seven Swordsmen would be down a member.

That would seriously weaken Kirigakure.

"You're right," Kiyosuke said with a laugh. "Take you guys out, and it's like cutting off one of the village's arms. At that point, you've already lost."

He showed no fear in the face of Jūzō's glare.

"Lightning Blades!"

Raiga Kurosuki charged in, lightning crackling along his dual swords, aiming straight for Kiyosuke.

"Fire!"

Flames burst out behind Kiyosuke and surged forward to intercept Raiga.

"Die, brat!"

Jinpachi Munashi came in swinging the explosive-blade Shibuki, its surface plastered with paper bombs.

Now that was some rich-kid fighting style—not something most people could afford to copy.

The sword came down.

The paper bombs detonated.

Even Jūzō, the closest to Kiyosuke, got caught in the blast...
