Chapter 74: Chapter 74 – Set Aflame

Kiyosuke's body swayed slightly as he stood atop the water's surface, gazing at the forest that had just transformed into a vast lake. He couldn't help but sigh—every wielder of Samehada was a chakra monster.

Kisame Hoshigaki was one. Fuguki Suikazan was another. Though in terms of pure strength, Fuguki was probably no match for Kisame. After all, he had been killed by Kisame.

Still, this guy wasn't someone to take lightly. Anyone who could wield Samehada was bad news.

Elsewhere, Kushimaru Kuriarare, who'd been suppressed by Might Duy, finally caught a moment to breathe. Most of the mask on his face had shattered, revealing sharp fangs and blood at the corner of his mouth. One of his arms was bent at an unnatural angle—courtesy of a powerful kick from Might Duy.

His tall, streamlined body made him excel in speed, but this hairy, musclebound man was even faster than him. His ninja blade had become practically useless—it had only served to block attacks.

Kiyosuke, Torifu, Aburame Shibi, and Might Duy stood together, forming a temporary squad.

"There are four left."

Fuguki Suikazan, Jinpachi Munashi, Kushimaru Kuriarare, and the wielder of the dual-bladed Hiramekarei. None of them would be easy to deal with.

"Hey! Suikazan, you bastard!" Jinpachi snapped. "You're using jutsu without warning! I almost got caught in that explosion!"

He was clearly pissed about nearly being blown up by Fuguki.

Fuguki just gave him a sneer.

"If trash like you dies, so what? No big loss. There are plenty of ninja in the village who can wield the Blast Sword."

"Hmph! Same goes for Samehada! You fat bastard!"

"Say that again, you one-eyed freak!"

The two started bickering. Meanwhile, the wielder of Hiramekarei took a deep breath and ignored them. He gripped his blade and stared ahead.

"Kushimaru, can you still fight?"

"Yeah. But if it's that green-clad guy… I can't win." He was too fast, too strong. Kushimaru wasn't even close to his level.

"I'll take him. You deal with the Aburame using the bugs."

Shibi's attacks were especially difficult to deal with. Hiramekarei's strength lay in accumulating chakra through the number of enemies it killed, enhancing its power over time. A weapon that made the wielder stronger the more they fought.

But bugs? Even if he killed them, how much chakra could he really gain? Barely any—and it was a hassle. One slip and he'd get swarmed. So he suggested switching opponents. He didn't expect Kushimaru to kill Shibi, just stall him long enough.

Kushimaru understood his thinking immediately. He nodded, gripped his blade tightly, and prepared to go in for a swift kill.

But before he could move, he saw Kiyosuke and Shibi exchanging a few quiet words. The two swiftly swapped positions and joined Duy. Another brief conversation followed. Duy nodded, flashed a thumbs-up, and shouted his approval.

Under his mask, Kushimaru frowned. What was going on?

Kiyosuke looked at him and said,

"Nothing much. Just that when you're down, we're not going to waste the opportunity. Ready, Duy-san?"

"Ohhhhhh!!! Burn bright, youth!!"

Might Duy's spirit ignited with passion—the very man who'd shaped the path of Might Guy's entire life.

He shot forward in an instant, and Kiyosuke followed close behind. His speed wasn't quite on par, but it was just right.

Kushimaru was startled as Duy passed by him without attacking.

He's not targeting me?

Duy zipped past him and charged straight at Hiramekarei's wielder… and the nearby Fuguki Suikazan.

Wait, there's another one—

The sudden surge of heat in the air snapped Kushimaru out of his confusion.

"Water Style: Water Formation Wall!"

Enduring the pain, he forced himself to weave hand signs. A wall of water rose up from beneath his feet, shielding him from the oncoming flames.

But as the water wall dissipated—

Kiyosuke was right in front of him.

And another figure soared over his head.

That was—

"Surprise, mother fu—!"

Kiyosuke burst into flames.

He was burning!

Kushimaru's pupils contracted as he instinctively turned to flee—but it was too late.

BOOM!

Purification screen. World peace.

The explosion drew the attention of the others—but they didn't have the time to look.

Fuguki Suikazan had clashed with Might Duy—and he was at a complete disadvantage.

Samehada's greatest strength was absorbing chakra and transferring it to the wielder.

But Duy fought with pure taijutsu. That completely nullified Samehada's advantage, turning it into just another odd-shaped blade that was getting in the way.

Meanwhile, Shibi was going head-to-head with Jinpachi Munashi. The Blast Sword's explosive attacks were certainly fierce, but Shibi's insects were endless. He could sacrifice the fewest bugs possible to neutralize the explosive tags within the blade. There was no way Jinpachi had more tags than Shibi had insects.

And his bugs? They fed on chakra and reproduced fast. Raiga Kurosuki's corpse alone had provided plenty of chakra for him to use.

As for Hiramekarei's wielder—he was having a hard time against Torifu.

Even when Hiramekarei was unleashed, it couldn't do much against Torifu.

And then Kiyosuke arrived, fresh off taking down Kushimaru.

"Captain Torifu! I'm here—let's go!"

"Right!"

"Super Expansion Jutsu!"

In the blink of an eye, Torifu transformed into a giant. His iron staff grew with him and swept horizontally toward Hiramekarei's wielder.

Naturally, the enemy tried to run. But Kiyosuke wasn't about to let that happen.

"Not a chance. You're dying here!"

"Damn brat! Get out of my way!"

"Keep dreaming!"

"Flaming Barrier!"

A wall of fire rose up instantly, cutting off his escape. Glancing down, Hiramekarei's wielder immediately canceled the chakra under his feet, no longer able to walk on water. As he plummeted—

Kiyosuke grabbed hold of him.

Panic filled the enemy's eyes. He tried to act, but it was too late.

Torifu's massive iron staff crashed down.

CRACK.

No one knew how many bones it shattered.

The body flew like a ragdoll through the air.

Kiyosuke, body reformed, leapt onto Torifu's hand. An old veteran, Torifu instantly understood and gave a mighty swing—launching Kiyosuke like a cannonball.

He tore through the wind and reached the falling swordsman with pinpoint precision, catching him by the throat. By now, the man couldn't fight back at all.

Flames surged out, engulfing his body completely.

Then Kiyosuke released his grip, pinched his nose shut, and plunged into the lake like a human torpedo, kicking up a massive splash.
