Chapter 1: Wrong Body, Wrong World
"We are all faced with great opportunities, disguised as impossible situations"
Waking up is a phenomenon everyone experiences. You wake up from your sleep, open your eyes, and immediately get flashed by sunlight. You put your hands in front of your eyes, cursing the sun, but then you realize that your hands are bigger, then you slowly get up and realize that you are in a different body.
Yes, that is exactly what is currently happening to me.
"The hell?" I whispered, looking at the unfamiliar windows through which the sunlight was creeping in.
My hand instinctively went to my chest, my breathing quickening.
But there was no blood, no wound.
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath and trying to calm myself down.
How? I clearly remembered being shot, I felt my consciousness fade away…I felt the world slow down.
Was it all a dream?
No…it was real, it was all real…but then, how am I alive?
I got up from the bed, no familiar creaking sound coming from it. My feet landed not on the tiled floor I was used to, but on floor made of polished wood that seemed almost too comfortable to step on.
Trying to make sense of everything, I looked around the room I was in, my eyes darting from corner to corner, taking in the sight of all the expensive and luxurious furniture.
It didn't seem like I was kidnapped and used as a specimen for experimentation.
There was a distant clanging sound, which seemed to come from outside my room.
But, it made me jump, my senses were completely alert as I cautiously walked on the floor.
Walking was quite weird, my body was heavier and bigger than what I was used to.
I slowly moved towards a mirror, kept upright by a decorated frame which shone with a golden light.
As I looked into it, a silent, empty laugh escaped my mouth, containing no humor.
"Seriously now?" I muttered, the voice deeper and heavier than my own, as I looked at the man staring back at me.
A pale face with ominous tattoos running across his throat and arms, reaching his forehead. Slits under each eye, which only emphasized my memory of the familiar face.
I touched my face and it felt very real, the information my senses were taking in felt way too vivid for it to be a dream. This wasn't a dream, nor was it some elaborate prank, but reality.
Memories of my life flashed in my mind – a satisfying life, which had turned into hell very quickly.
"I look sick though," I truly did. I tried to smile at the mirror, which unintentionally turned into a smirk, exposing my fangs, and I looked damn evil.
As of why I'm acting like this, well, I'm Sukuna.
...
Elaborating more, I currently look like Sukuna as he did in the manga when he was possessing Megumi. I can't remember the manga that well, since it has been a while since I read it, so I can't point out any small changes.
My fingers ran across my face, it felt weird that I was not freaking out, I think the disbelief had numbed my senses.
I calmed my ragged breathing down, my hand going to my chest, feeling my loudly beating heart.
The first course of action is to obtain more information about my whereabouts and...identity?
There was a little table on the side of my bed, on it was kept a small plate on which were cookies which looked absolutely delicious, their aroma tempted me to try them once.
They looked crisp yet soft at the same time, chocolate chips spread on top of them, they looked like the ones my sister used to make.
Taking my mind off the distraction, I noticed a mobile phone placed next to the plate.
I picked up the mobile phone, as well as a cookie, and sat on the bed, it had no password lock for some reason. Such a careless fellow its owner was.
.
I scrolled through the internet for about 30 minutes, absorbing all the information thrown at me, and now, I can firmly say...
Hunter Union, Hunter Association, Dungeons, World Nobles, all this seemed too familiar to a game I played a few years ago.
When I was 14, this game blew up, so I can remember a lot of events and characters, even if a little vaguely.
Logging into the Hunter Union website, I saw a lot of documents, a lot of information which were not covered in the game at all.
A game's story, turned into reality, so cliché.
As for the information I got about myself, I am the heir of a World Noble family surnamed Ryomen.
Since birth, I had no mana, supposedly, the only known case in the world.
However, my parents treated me like they would any other of their children.
Problem is, this family didn't exist in the original game.
Adding a whole family so influential would have caused a huge change in the storyline already, which might make my knowledge useless.
"Just what I needed," I muttered, picking up a cookie and taking a bite.
However, some events would be unchanged even after the insertion of my family, some that do not concern people at all.
Anyhow, as of what a World Noble is, they are influential families directly under the Hunter Union, which is a union consisting of many countries who have been either taken over by, or have accepted to serve under, the Hunter Association.
England is one of the only remaining big nations not under the Hunter Uni–
My thought process was broken as a sudden, intense pain assaulted my head. It was one of the worst headaches I had felt in my life.
I fell onto the bed, clutching my head with my hands, suppressing the urge to scream out.
My teeth were grit so hard that they almost drew blood.
Fortunately, the pain did not last for more than 10 seconds, and with it came memories, flooding into my poor brain that had to handle the load of two people at once.
As the pain subsided, my body relaxed as I lay on the bed, gasping for breath.
"Never again," I muttered, pushing myself up into a sitting position.
This pain was…memories, memories of the person who had lived this life before me.
My hands were still trembling from the painful experience as I tried to look through these...foreign memories.
According to then, I did have a different power than mana, cursed energy if you will, but I was never able to use it...except once.
I remembered all the novels I had read, and there was something I had to try.
'System,' I mentally said.
I was praying to all my ancestors that if I did have a System, it wasn't a sentient one, especially those 'loli's.
A light blue, translucent screen appeared in front of me.
My eyes darted around all the words written there, and as far as I could figure out, it was not a sentient system, thankfully.
Under the [Skills] tab, I could see a blank space.
...
Wait, that ain't right.
'Close,' I said mentally, the system window blurred, before disappearing completely.
'System,' I mentally said once again. The screen appeared once more, but there was no difference.
Confused, I scrolled down into the stats section.
My eyes slightly widened at the stats, especially intelligence.
There was one…'Energy,' which I suppose is the replacement of 'Mana'.
These stats are completely cracked, they would literally be close to that of the strongest people in the current timeline.
But, my physical attributes are complete crap.
I sighed.
To the previous owner of my body, if you have no mana, then why the FUCK would you not train your body.
When I scrolled back up, there was a skill in the [Skills] section.
I blinked, confused. "Am I tripping or did this just…nevermind."
[Unshakable Heart]: Your heart, honed by hundreds of life and death battles, will never waver in front of an adversary.
Cool, I guess.
I scrolled down and saw the [Extra] Section.
It took me a few seconds to read and take in what was written in it, and all it made me do was sigh.
The text in it basically said that the amount of Cursed Energy I had was multiplied by 2x and the effects of my Cursed Techniques were multiplied by 1.5x, in exchange for physical prowess.
Sukuna's Cursed Energy was already more than adequate, as for the Cursed Technique, we'll see later.
As I see it now, this is not enough to completely give up my physical prowess, but maybe I'll change my mind later.
I jumped again as the system played a sound. My heart skipped a beat in excitement as I read the message.
[Shrine added, proficiency 0%, increase proficiency to unlock skills]
A smirk unintentionally formed on my face.
I opened the skills section, and what I saw there were things we all loved...Dismantle, Cleave, Domain, some more stuff, and at the end…'???'.
I blinked in confusion. What could '???' be?
Thinking for a few seconds, I sighed and closed the screen, finding myself staring into the mirror.
I slightly jumped at a loud knock on the door.
A few seconds later, a maid entered and bowed professionally. "Sir, your parents request your presence."
Turning to face her, I couldn't help but smile. This world really has everything, doesn't it?
"I'll be there in a bit, where are they?" I said, gesturing her to leave.
The servant seemed to be confused, but realized that she was staring and continued hurriedly. "They will be waiting in the living room."
I nodded as she left, shutting the door gently. I could hear her footsteps getting farther away.
I turned back to the mirror, staring into myself.
Unknown to me, there was a notification on my phone, with an article named:
("Academy Entrance Exams are rumored to be ruthless this year")
Not noticing the flicker, I kept staring at myself, still not used to my new appearance.
The important thing now is what I should do in this world.
Firstly, I have no interest in building a harem.
Have you ever thought how weird polygamy is? Even if we take out the weird part, can you think how hard it is to keep multiple women happy?
Ahem, both emotionally and 'physically'.
Alright, we leave that topic behind.
I believe that I have already caused changes in the storyline, so just doing nothing will still cause problems.
The first order of business would be to get into the Academy with all the main characters, right?
That's a given, but...what next?
I closed my eyes, a sigh escaping my mouth.
I guess...I'll enjoy this life to the fullest, huh?
A smirk formed on my face, one which would be called 'devious' if anyone saw it.
A little chaos never hurt anybody... permanently, let's say it causes character development.
.
Unknown to me, there was a person, perched onto the trees quite far away, in the densely forest-covered area near our house.
In his hands were binoculars, pointed right at my room, as he observed my every move.
