In This Life, I Will Extremely Pamper My Short-Lived Husband

Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Just Suddenly Wanted to See Her

"Take a seat or feel free to look around, I'll be done here soon," Xu Jinzhi concerned that Xie Yanchuan might be bored, made a point to say this.

Xie Yanchuan nodded slightly. He first surveyed the office and then sat down on the sofa, choosing not to wander about.

At this time, Xu Jinzhi was diligently reviewing documents. With the advantage of her knowledge from a past life, Xu Jinzhi actually knew there were no issues with these documents, but she still inspected them very carefully.

Xie Yanchuan watched Xu Jinzhi meticulously going through the files, feeling a strange sensation in his heart, and he couldn't help but become lost in his thoughts.

It was only when Xu Jinzhi finished handling several documents and excitedly exclaimed, "All done!" that Xie Yanchuan snapped back to reality, and while Xu Jinzhi was not yet aware, he shifted his gaze away.

Little did he know, Xu Jinzhi had already noticed. At the moment Xie Yanchuan looked away, Xu Jinzhi subtly smiled.

Turning off her computer, Xu Jinzhi grabbed her phone and bag. "We can go now," she said.

Xu Jinzhi quickly walked upto Xie Yanchuan and looked at him with a smile, but he completely missed her cues.

Since Xu Jinzhi had said they could leave, Xie Yanchuan didn't hesitate. He stepped forward, not thinking of holding Xu Jinzhi's hand or putting an arm around her shoulder.

Xu Jinzhi felt a slight regret, but ultimately followed him out.

As the two left the office, people outside couldn't help but sneak peeks, not just peeking but also discussing loudly after they had walked some distance.

In the elevator, Xu Jinzhi asked Xie Yanchuan, "What's the problem with the experiment?"

Xie Yanchuan pursed his lips, seemingly thinking about how to explain it to Xu Jinzhi simply and clearly. After a moment, he said, "Simply put, the efficacy of the drug is insufficient, even worse than the original."

At this point, Xie Yanchuan seemed somewhat downcast.

"I believe you can do it," Xu Jinzhi suddenly said.

Xie Yanchuan glanced sideways at Xu Jinzhi, seeing the smile in her eyes and the steadfast look on her face. Suddenly, he felt ripples in his heart.

It was rather abrupt for him to come to see Xu Jinzhi, but in the moment he learned of the disappointing experiment results, everyone in the lab seemed deflated.

Words of comfort and encouragement? No one wanted to hear them because it signified another failure.

People often say failure is the mother of success, but in fact, that's not true; failure is failure, and nothing can change that fact.

Everyone had gone to rest, and he had also been preparing to leave, but when he came out of the lab and saw the message Xu Jinzhi had sent him, he strangely found himself wanting to see her.

Xie Yanchuan rarely had something he particularly wanted to do. He was not the eldest brother; he did not need to learn to take over the family business, nor was he the frail youngest, constantly controlled in everything he did. He always did whatever he wanted.

Others envied his "freedom," yet perhaps he was too free, as Xie Yanchuan often did not know what he truly wanted.

But at that time, he had bizarrely thought of Xu Jinzhi.

Feeling somewhat conflicted, he first went to the dessert shop Xu Jinzhi had mentioned on WeChat, hesitating for so long; still, he wanted to see Xu Jinzhi, and so he went to the company.

And now, hearing Xu Jinzhi saying she believed in him with such conviction, although it was comforting just like others did, if anyone else had said it, Xie Yanchuan would think they were merely offering consolation.

But with Jinzhi, Yanchuan had an intuition that she truly believed he would one day succeed!

The elevator dinged, snapping Yanchuan out of his thoughts as they both stepped out.

However, when they reached the lobby, they bumped into someone walking in from outside.

Linchuan wasn't surprised to see Jinzhi, after all, this was the Xu Group, but he was completely taken aback upon seeing Yanchuan.

"Yanchuan, what are you doing here?" Linchuan asked.

Before Yanchuan could answer, Jinzhi spoke up first, "Is it strange for my fiancé to be here?"

Linchuan was startled, "That's not what I meant."

Jinzhi didn't say much, only looking at Linchuan with an indescribable expression.

And with Linchuan unable to respond to Jinzhi's obvious targeting, he always felt it was because of his reluctance to a marriage alliance that Jinzhi had grievances against him.

Indeed, before the marriage alliance was mentioned, he and Jinzhi had collaborated many times, and back then, Jinzhi wasn't like she is now; every remark didn't clash with him.

For this reason, Linchuan opposed the marriage alliance between Jinzhi and Yanchuan, feeling that it would harm his brother.

But their conversation back in the hotel left Linchuan speechless.

Now, Linchuan seemed to have nothing much to say either, merely frowning slightly, which anyone astute could tell that something was amiss.

"Mr. Xie should get back to his own business, we have other matters and will be leaving now." Jinzhi said as she grabbed Yanchuan's wrist and walked straight ahead.

Both Linchuan and the staff trailing behind him stepped aside and watched as Jinzhi led Yanchuan away.

"How did you get here?" Jinzhi asked.

Yanchuan said, "I took a taxi."

Yanchuan had a car, but he had hesitated long before deciding to see Jinzhi today. He'd even considered backing out while he was on his way to the dessert shop.

"Then I'll drive," Jinzhi said.

Yanchuan nodded slightly, and as they walked, he suddenly asked, "Do you really dislike my brother?"

During their few encounters, Jinzhi's attitude towards Linchuan was noticeably poor, which Yanchuan could sense.

Jinzhi turned her head to look at Yanchuan, a cryptic smile on her face, and she countered, "Why? Are you worried that I am engaged to you only because your brother refused, and I'm doing this out of revenge?"

"No," Yanchuan firmly denied.

Actually, Yanchuan didn't understand Jinzhi well, but he felt that wasn't the case.

Jinzhi still smiling, Yanchuan found himself somewhat embarrassed under her gaze, his eyes flickering away slightly.

At that moment, they had reached where Jinzhi had parked. Jinzhi stopped walking, and Yanchuan stopped too.

They were quite close to each other. Just as Yanchuan was about to step aside, Jinzhi suddenly tiptoed up and kissed him before he could react!
