Chapter 9: Chapter 9 At Least a Proper Goodbye
Xu Jinzhi had learned about Xie Yanchuan's pollen allergy on their first Valentine's Day after they were married in her past life.
That day, Xie Yanchuan had given her a bouquet of flowers and then had an allergic reaction. He said he had taken allergy medicine, so it wasn't serious.
It was also then that Xu Jinzhi found out that on their wedding day, Xie Yanchuan had taken allergy medicine beforehand. It was just because there had been no close contact, so he hadn't had an allergic reaction.
Afterwards, Xu Jinzhi directly ordered Xie Yanchuan never to touch flowers again.
After dinner, Xu Jinzhi called over a waiter to pay the bill, and it was then that Xie Yanchuan said, "Let me do it."
"Your little..." money, you should keep it!
Xu Jinzhi stopped speaking halfway through, swallowing back the words that had nearly escaped her lips.
In reality, Xie Yanchuan wasn't so poor that he couldn't afford a meal. Even if he wasn't the Xie Family's heir, he still received dividends from the Xie Family every year, and although he invested most of his funds in the laboratory, he wasn't without money to spend.
The reason she had unconsciously said that was because there had been a time when she went on a date with Xie Yanchuan, and during a shopping trip, she picked out two handbags. However, when Xie Yanchuan attempted to pay for them, his card was declined.
The card was declined due to insufficient funds, which left an impression on Xu Jinzhi that he was broke.
Xu Jinzhi was well aware of Xie Yanchuan's financial situation, so she didn't care about it.
But she did not know how that gossipy salesperson had spread the word, and it turned into a rumor that the Xie Family's second son couldn't even afford two handbags.
Of course, most people didn't believe that. Considering the Xie Family's status, they were more inclined to believe that the Xie Family's second son was henpecked, with all his finances controlled by Xu Jinzhi.
But there were always a few oddballs with different opinions, who even dared to look down on Xie Yanchuan.
Even if in her past life Xu Jinzhi was forced to choose Xie Yanchuan, she didn't have the slightest intention of looking down on him.
It's just that everyone has their different shining points. Most people think that being able to make money is enough, but they overlook that there are many meaningful things in the world.
She didn't understand everything Xie Yanchuan did, but she recognized everything he did.
In her past life, she hadn't cared for Xie Yanchuan's dignity as a man, and Xu Jinzhi felt it wasn't too late to be more considerate now.
So in the end, Xie Yanchuan was the one who paid the bill.
When they left the restaurant, Xu Jinzhi asked, "Where should I drop you off later?"
Xie Yanchuan wanted to say he could take a taxi home, but seeing the look in Xu Jinzhi's eyes, it was clear she wouldn't let him take a taxi. After thinking for a moment, Xie Yanchuan said, "If it's convenient, drop me off at Lijing Garden."
Lijing Garden was close to University A, and Xie Yanchuan would stay there when the laboratory wasn't busy.
Although today wasn't particularly late, the matters in the laboratory weren't something that could be dealt with quickly, so he might as well take a rest.
"Convenient, how could it not be?" Xu Jinzhi thought to herself. Even if it weren't convenient, she would have to make it convenient, let alone the fact that it was on the way.
They had talked quite a bit on the way to the restaurant and while dining there. At this point, there was nothing much to say, so the car fell silent.
As they were about to turn the corner to Lijing Garden, Xu Jinzhi slowed down the car, finally stopping at the entrance of the neighborhood.
"Thank you for tonight," said Xie Yanchuan.
"It's no trouble." Xu Jinzhi shifted slightly in her seat, looking at Xie Yanchuan in the passenger seat, "Do you have time tomorrow evening?"
After a moment of hesitation, Xie Yanchuan answered, "Yes."
"Shall we have dinner together tomorrow night?" Xu Jinzhi directly extended the invitation.
Xie Yanchuan really hesitated this time. He had only one class tomorrow morning, but since he hadn't gone to the lab tonight, and if he didn't go tomorrow, when would he have time to do his experiments?
However, when Xu Jinzhi looked at him with such expectation on her face, the refusal that Xie Yanchuan had on the tip of his tongue just couldn't come out.
Seeing that Xie Yanchuan didn't speak, Xu Jinzhi knew he was hesitating. She had no choice but to up the ante, "I can't help it, I just have some time these two days, afterward I might be busy for a while."
Xie Yanchuan's Adam's apple bobbed, and he spoke in a light tone, "Then I'll see you tomorrow."
"Great!" Xu Jinzhi immediately smiled, her eyes sparkling, as if hiding stars inside.
Xie Yanchuan shifted his gaze away and unbuckled his seatbelt to get out of the car, "Then I'm leaving."
"Okay." Xu Jinzhi nodded.
Without saying anything more, Xie Yanchuan turned and walked toward the residential compound.
Watching Xie Yanchuan's retreating back, Xu Jinzhi felt a subtle feeling she had never experienced, as she had never before stopped to watch Xie Yanchuan leave.
She suddenly remembered the last time she saw Xie Yanchuan in her previous life; that day, as always, she was the one who turned and left first.
Although it was supposed to be Xie Yanchuan who was leaving, in the end, it was he who stood there watching her leave. She had only glanced back at Xie Yanchuan once, then left without saying anything.
At the time, she didn't know that it was the last time she would see Xie Yanchuan in her previous life. After that departure, Xie Yanchuan left her for good.
If she had known then, she would not have let Xie Yanchuan go!
Even if she couldn't have stopped Xie Yanchuan from leaving, she would at least have said goodbye properly.
Xu Jinzhi suddenly called out, "Xie Yanchuan!"
Xie Yanchuan stopped and looked back at the person in the car.
Xu Jinzhi lifted the corners of her lips and smiled at Xie Yanchuan, "Work is endless, don't stay up too late, you should rest early."
Xie Yanchuan was taken aback, seemingly at a loss for Xu Jinzhi's concern, and after a few seconds, he nodded, "Okay, you too."
"See you tomorrow!" said Xu Jinzhi.
Xie Yanchuan nodded in agreement, then stared at Xu Jinzhi for a while longer. Seeing that she had nothing else to say, he turned and continued walking toward the residential compound.
When Xu Jinzhi got home, Xu Zhen was also sitting in the living room. Seeing her come in, Xu Zhen slightly raised his eyebrows, "Where on earth have you been?"
A momentary stiffness passed over Xu Jinzhi's face, then she casually responded, "Why ask when you already know?"
Hearing this, Xu Zhen immediately sat up straight, his expression turning serious, "Come here!"
"What is it?" Xu Jinzhi approached, not taking Xu Zhen's seriousness seriously.
Not until Xu Jinzhi sat down on the couch did Xu Zhen speak, "You couldn't really have fallen for that Xie Yanchuan, could you?"
"Is there a problem?" asked Xu Jinzhi nonchalantly.
Xu Zhen, however, furrowed his brows tightly, "Jinzhi, you can't afford to take a fall in matters of the heart!"
Xu Jinzhi didn't reply, already guessing what Xu Zhen would say next. After all, not to mention her previous life, just in the first half of her own life, she had heard similar things many times.
