Infinite Evolution in the Marvel universe

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: I Come from the Void

Harvey considered that, in terms of his powers and lifespan, he was undoubtedly more aligned with the Void than with humanity.

While he might still harbor some sense of belonging to humans due to his past life and the beginning of his current existence, this sense of connection would likely diminish over time, even though it would not disappear entirely.

Having reached this conclusion, Harvey had already made his decision.

"I come from the Void."

Under the wary gazes of Natasha, Nick Fury, and Coulson, Harvey spoke.

Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson all tensed at his revelation.

Natasha and Coulson instinctively moved toward their weapons but halted their actions upon remembering Harvey's earlier warning.

At the same moment Harvey spoke, a notification echoed in his mind:

[Detected that the host has confronted their true self, affirming their will and existence. The system formally recognizes the host, unlocking various functions.]

Harvey's eyes flashed at the cold voice in his mind.

He had awakened the system over two years ago and had been patiently waiting for the subsequent hero templates to unlock. He now realized that the issue had been with him all along.

Despite not having rejected the Void, he had never fully accepted it either. Until Nick Fury's question about his race, he had never considered himself part of the Void, which had prevented the system from fully recognizing him.

"…"

Nick Fury had initially confirmed that this "Reaper" was a superpowered individual and had intended to recruit him for the Avengers. He believed that if he could make this individual see the dire situation Earth was in, he might agree to help humanity.

However, discovering that "Reaper" was an alien threw a wrench into Nick Fury's plans. Earth was humanity's only home; if it were destroyed, there would be no refuge left. But for an alien, Earth might just be a temporary stopover.

Nevertheless, considering that this "Reaper" had been on Earth for over two years and had only worked as a mercenary without causing any significant destruction, it suggested that he had no intention of destroying Earth.

"So, what is your purpose here on Earth, if you come from the Void?"

Nick Fury asked, seeking to understand how to communicate with this enigmatic individual. He also gave Natasha and Coulson a look, signaling them to restrain their impulses.

While humans had powerful weapons, taking on an alien like this would be costly, so it was crucial to determine if he was a friend or foe.

"Seeing this beautiful planet, I came here to experience life as a tourist."

Harvey answered the question with a lie as naturally as breathing.

Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson found this reason far-fetched, but since "Reaper" was unwilling to reveal his true intentions, they couldn't force him to do so.

Given the demonstrated power of "Reaper," they knew that confronting him directly would be a losing battle, so they had to focus on understanding his intentions rather than taking action.

"Well, since you've revealed your identity, it seems we might have a chance to communicate."

Nick Fury forced a smile that conveyed his strained politeness.

"We're already communicating, aren't we?"

Harvey responded, unconcerned by the probing and cautious manner of Nick Fury's words and actions.

"Looks like my old head's getting a bit fuzzy."

Nick Fury, seeing this as a friendly signal, scratched his shiny bald head and feigned ignorance.

"I've accepted your deposit. Now, tell me what you need."

Harvey, maintaining a businesslike demeanor, addressed the matter directly.

Nick Fury had specific tasks in mind for this individual, but given that some matters were beyond what agents could handle, intelligence was crucial.

Nick Fury opened up, "I do have a task for you, but now that I know you're an alien from the Void, can I purchase some information from you?"

"Though I charge for my services, I need to know what kind of information you're seeking."

Harvey was aware of Nick Fury's intentions but didn't refuse outright.

"My questions are not meant to probe you."

"I just want to know how many alien species are near Earth and their technological levels."

"Or if they have any unique abilities."

"Also, is Earth currently under surveillance by other aliens?"

Nick Fury listed his questions.

"There are many intelligent beings in the universe, and their technology far surpasses that of Earth."

"Space jumps, interstellar warships, and energy cannons are all common."

"However, those near Earth are too distant for you to worry about too much."

"Abilities vary greatly among races. Even setting aside their innate abilities, aliens generally have superior physical qualities compared to humans."

"As for the proximity, including Earth, there are several worlds collectively known as the Nine Realms."

"Among the Nine Realms is Asgard, home to the Aesir gods, including Odin, whom you humans refer to as the king of gods."

"Earth has always been under the watch of aliens. Many have visited, such as the Kree and Skrulls."

"However, as long as Odin is alive, other races do not dare to make overt moves."

Harvey avoided revealing future events to prevent altering the Marvel Universe's trajectory too much. He provided answers that wouldn't significantly change the big picture.

Nick Fury knew from Harvey's mention of the Kree and Skrulls that this alien knew much more than he had anticipated, adding credibility to his words.

"So you're saying that our human myths and legends are true?"

"And that we have been under the protection of the Aesir gods?"

Nick Fury's curiosity and concerns grew.

"Many legends are based on truth, and you might have the chance to meet the Aesir gods in the future."

Harvey confirmed his statement with a nod.

"I have a question, Mr. Reaper. You mentioned that Odin is still alive, preventing aliens from causing trouble. Does this mean Odin could die in the future?"

Natasha couldn't help but ask.

Harvey looked at Natasha but didn't answer. His silence was taken as a confirmation that Odin might indeed have a finite lifespan.

Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson were concerned by the implication. If Odin died, humanity might face other alien threats, and the silence on Odin's fate suggested that even gods had their limits.

Nick Fury also realized that directly recruiting "Reaper" was unlikely.

"Thank you for the information, Mr. Reaper."

"Will there be any future opportunities for us to collaborate?"

Nick Fury asked with a friendly smile, trying to maintain a positive relationship.

"Depending on the task. As long as the reward is sufficient, I'm not opposed to collaboration."

Harvey gave a vague answer, not entirely rejecting the idea.

While it was foolish to turn down money, there were some sums he wouldn't accept.

Nick Fury understood that price alone wouldn't sway "Reaper" and that the decision to act was based on his willingness.

The sense of being at the mercy of this enigmatic individual left Nick Fury uncomfortable. He needed to ensure that humanity had the means to defend itself.

"Natasha, no matter what it takes, contact Harvey Amberlock and test whether he is truly a superpowered individual."

Nick Fury issued the directive, and Natasha left to follow it.

"Coulson, gather more information on people with strange or notable activities."

"I have some matters to attend to."

Nick Fury gave his final instructions and departed.

The information gathered from "Reaper" was invaluable to Nick Fury. However, he couldn't reveal everything to higher-ups, so he had to manage the situation carefully.
