Chapter 107: Lesser Abyssal Demon's (A+ Rank)
[Lord Demon (A-Rank)] - [Danger Rating: Orangish-Yellow] X56
[Lesser Abyssal Demon (A+ Rank)] - [Danger Rating: Medium-Red] X3
"Medium Red?" Cassius repeated what he saw, his expression easing up a bit. "The nearly Red Danger Rating Lord Demon from before was a lot weaker than its System Tag would indicate, so these ones surely aren't too much stronger. At the very least, they should be manageable—"
He jinxed it.
FWOOOOOSH—!
Cassius blinked, and one of the Abyssal Demons teleported from its original position to mere feet away from him, and it did so in an instant.
"!!!"
Cassius tried to evade what was coming, but it was already far too late, and 'it' was far too fast.
The Lesser Abyssal Demon landed a rib-breaking punch in the pit of his stomach, sending him flying backward at thousands of times the speed of sound. And then, without a shred of mercy, the Demon blink-stepped once more and appeared a few inches ahead of the barreling human before following up with a downward leg kick.
Unlike the other, regular Demons, as an Abyssal Demon, it could transform into a smaller version of itself, thus resulting in the current apathetic humanoid form.
"Kaaa…" the Lesser Abyssal Demon thinned its sinisterly demonic eyes, watching as the human smashed through a destroyed building.
Cassius shot through floor after floor of that building. His vision blurred by the end, both because of the pain assaulting his senses and the blood painting his face almost entirely red. Most of his defenses were completely shattered after the first strike, with the second strike crushing a lot of his bones and ruining his internals.
Overall, he would rate this experience a sh*t experience. A refund was demanded.
BOOOOM!!!
The earth around Cassius exploded upward when his battered body collided with the ground like a meteor. The building that was originally there was now no more; hell, even the surrounding couple of city blocks had been blasted to the heavens.
FWIP! FWIP!
The other two Lesser Abyssal Demons teleported beside the first one, with all three sets of their eyes scanning through the apocalyptic rubble below.
After a couple of seconds, they exchanged glances between one another. The first Abyssal Demon prepared itself to go down there and finish the job.
However, it was in that same moment that an evil scarlet aura seeped out from under the hundreds of thousands of tons of rubble. It started off weak yet quickly escalated to levels that exceeded all previous power levels. The entire sky for several thousands of meters was blotted out by this aura, causing even the emotionless Abyssal Demons to frown.
They possessed enough intelligence to know when something presented a certain amount of danger to them. Furthermore, they also knew when it was most appropriate to nip a growing bud before it consumed the garden.
Fwoooop—!
The first Lesser Abyssal Demon phased down to the source of the rubble, then used its innate telekinetic abilities to lift up all of the debris and carelessly chuck it into the distance. Looking around, the Demon once again located the target, prompting it to flash forward.
"Too slow."
Stay tuned with empire
"???"
Confusion passed through the Lesser Abyssal Demon's slitted eyes, and it truly was too slow to do anything. Cassius clasped his veiny hand around the Demon's face while moving at a speed that blew the minds of all three Lesser Abyssal Demons.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Cassius took the Lesser Abyssal Demon for a joyride around the devastated landscape, doing so in a similar way as it had done unto him. Building through building, into one side of the ground, out the other side—he took the Demon's face and body everywhere in the area while appearing like no more than a purplish crimson blur.
"Do tell me," began Cassius, his tone colder than the Atlantic Ocean. "Is this enjoyable for you? Do you derive pleasure from pain?"
He received no response.
"Yeah, I didn't think so." Cassius sighed before hurling the Lesser Abyssal Demon to the stars.
Of course, there weren't actually any stars, but the point was that the Demon was something akin to a spaceship ascending to space.
"Now, if even a Demon straight from the pits of HELL doesn't enjoy pain, then what makes you think I would enjoy it, oh System of mine?" asked Cassius, slightly irritated. "...You should've already known that I couldn't take on anything at that level, so why did you let my head grow big…?"
*Ding~~!*
[It was better for Character Development! ^¥^]
[You need not be cocky, you need not grow complacent, you need not be arrogant. You need to become more cautious, you need to stay on guard at all times, you need to be more calculative, you need more back-up plans.]
[If Plan A fails, then you have Plan B to back you up. If Plan B fails, then you have Plan C. So on and so forth…]
[In this World, the only power you can count on is your own. When it matters most, no one and nothing will be by your side to help you.]
[You will die as you are. And even if you can make it out alive for now, once the Illusion shatters, you will not live past the first day.]
[The natural proclivity to believe that everything, everyone, and anything is working against you is what will allow you to survive the New Age. It is also what will allow you to survive in the now. Features like the Status Recovery aren't infinite, and they also aren't invincible. If you were to get killed in one shot, you wouldn't even have the necessary time required to use Status Recovery.]
[And if that happens twice, even the Phoenix Rebirth Skill will be unable to save your life.]
[You will… DIE.]
Cassius had expected a short witty response, not an entire lecture. Yet, that didn't mean he was unable to understand what the System was trying to tell him. Or, rather, what it was warning him would happen if he remained as careless as he was when the Lesser Abyssal Demons first appeared.
"Believe everything is out to get me… Don't grow overconfident… I see…"
