Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 729: Optimal

"... Yeah, right," Seara said while looking at Rain with eyes filled with suspicion before sighing. "I thought that I would get a bit taller…"

Rain felt like chuckling… such a small-minded reason for Seara to evolve her first path… Still, it was something important to her. A few centimeters were a huge deal for shorties. Rain thought that he should pat her more often to make sure that it wouldn't happen.

Fortunately, Terra didn't seem that bothered over Seara changing a bit at first since she also evolved her path a few days later. While she also checked the mirror, she also didn't notice many differences. Maybe they needed glasses, or Rain had to praise them more, but they didn't look satisfied at all.

In Terra's case, her hair seemed more lustrous than before, and she also looked several years younger. Rain felt that they were fine before, but he felt that the system was with him just like the force because their scent was better as well… that was enough for him.

"I feel like your transformation was better. It is unfair," Seara said.

"You guys are thinking too much into this," Rain shrugged. "Regardless, your behavior didn't change that much, so maybe that is one of the reasons."

Rain, just like Seadrei, felt himself getting more arrogant thanks to the evolution, but he got used to it after a while. It also made him hornier, so the hormones probably affected Seadrei as well… unfortunately, Rain didn't notice his wives craving for him more… it was truly a pity. Still, he couldn't ask for the universe on a silver platter.

In the end, Terra and Seara felt like that for one week… Rain tried to praise them as much as possible, but they thought that it was only lip service. Only when others praised their new appearance a bunch of times, it made them feel better.

"Women…" Rain said and then took a sip of coffee before shaking his head and then opening another report from Artisia.

Master

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to update you on the investigation we conducted on the magic people's country as per your instructions.

Utilizing the telescopic devices you provided, our team undertook a thorough observation of the coastal regions of the magic people's country. Our findings were quite intriguing and potentially concerning.

We identified several towers positioned along the coastline, dispersed at strategic intervals. These towers appeared to be heavily guarded, with a minimum of fifty sentinels stationed at each location. Their vigilance was notable, and they maintained a constant watch over the surrounding areas.

During our observation, our presence near these towers didn't go unnoticed. As expected, the guards reacted swiftly upon detecting our presence. They immediately mobilized and conducted thorough searches in our direction, likely prompted by their detection system. However, upon reaching the barrier line, they ceased their pursuit and eventually retreated to their original positions.

Despite their response to our presence, we managed to gather valuable information about the towers and their vigilant guards. The towers seem to serve as key points of defense or surveillance, fortified with a substantial guard force and activated response measures upon any potential breach of their perimeter.

Nevertheless, the level of alertness and immediate reaction from the guards raises some concerns about the sensitivity of these areas and the extent of security measures employed by the magic people.

I believe these towers could be crucial in their defense strategy or could be holding significant resources or information. Further exploration or a more detailed investigation might yield deeper insights into their purpose and importance.

Please advise on the next steps or any further actions you wish us to undertake based on this information.

I am awaiting your guidance.

Best regards,

Artisia

"The fuck is wrong with this woman…" Rain thought while frowning. "Anyway… I can only imagine that these towers work to increase the size of their magic barrier in certain directions."

Towers that worked as amplifiers for the magic barriers… whoever was working with the beast and magic people they sure knew a lot… they knew even more than Isa, and she was several thousand years old. Rain wondered if that guy was a half dragon as well, but he didn't have enough information to say or deny that.

A few days later, Rain confirmed, thanks to Geo, that the beast people began to build towers as well to amplify their magic barriers… it was hard to say if that was a response thanks to their silence regarding the truce or just a countermeasure against the dragons.

"We should be able to destroy them with physical attacks, even though those towers are heavily guarded," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Still, it is hard to imagine that only those soldiers were the only defense mechanism laid by this unknown enemy."

If the towers only improve the magic barriers, things would be fine… but what if they had other effects? Rain had to consider that as well… come to think of it, Rain realized that the truce could have given him the chance to investigate their territory and such changes.

It was pretty much clear now that in terms of technology, magic, and the beast, people would leave the humans behind with the help of this unknown agent. That was bad… humans now looked like barbarians using things like giant crossbows. Even if they had a bunch of high-quality materials, they needed more knowledge to make use of them effectively.

"Should I change my approach?" Rain thought.

Rain held a powerful belief in personal improvement as the ultimate path forward. He was convinced that honing their skills and abilities was crucial for growth. Relying excessively on tools or external aids might potentially hinder their progress and development. He firmly believed that true mastery and advancement stemmed from the relentless pursuit of self-improvement.

However, there lingered a persistent question in Rain's mind – was this approach of solely focusing on personal improvement always the optimal strategy, especially in the context of survival?
