Infinite Potential System

Chapter 268: Weapon Shifter

William looked at the lifeless body of Supreme Left with a hint of uneasiness. This was the second time William had seen Supreme Left die, and neither time was it his true body.

Something about the interactions made him feel like Supreme Left wanted to be underestimated, while the other wondered if he had already grown past the leaders of this World.

The System still hadn't returned, and his Magic was still unusable, so William would have no choice but to return to the City on foot. That is, if he could revert his appearance back to "Yuming".

Shit, what am I going to do now? Who knows when this Beast Tide is going to appear?

William's Illusionist's Cloak was damaged from the Elemental upgrades and couldn't conceal his identity for quite some time, so he would instantly be recognized the moment he approached the City.

After that point, it would probably be another chase involving Supreme Left or those people he saw outside the Gravitas Ruins. William still wasn't cocky enough to think he could take on a dozen Tribulation Transcendence Cultivators. Especially not at the same time.

He sat cross-legged on the ground and consolidated his Cultivation, having still not fully absorbed the World's reward for reaching the Core Formation Realm.

William knew his lifespan had increased, but he also had no clue how close he was to reaching the limit. It could be a hundred years or a decade for all he knew, which would be very bad if William had to use his Regeneration Talent again.

I can't even upgrade my Regeneration Talent right now... this sucks.

There were tons of Potential Points still in William's balance, but he wouldn't be able to use them until the System came back online. He had no choice but to Cultivate and consider carefully what he would do the next time the Chaos Element needed to upgrade.

Hours passed, which turned into an entire day while William Cultivated. He had expected for his Magic to return after just a few hours, but it was still unavailable even after all this time.

William wanted to contact Carl, but he had no way to do so. The only thing he could do was use Filipe's communicator to hopefully relay a message to the others, so they could tell Carl what was going on secondhand.

On the second day, William felt a light rumbling coming from the direction of Blue Moon City. It seemed that a battle had begun, which William hadn't noticed because he only had the Navigation Talent to use for detection.

Since it couldn't see lifeforms, it was almost entirely useless unless he knew exactly where to look. After feeling the ground rumble, though, William was able to hone in on a specific part on the opposite side of the City, where the terrain was constantly changing.

William could see the footprints of massive Sandicores in the ground, while Desert Beetles were probably tunneling underneath to try and surprise their foes. Their movements were very coordinated, seemingly much more intelligent after experiencing the first battle.

William stood up and rushed in the direction of the battle at his greatest speed, arriving in just under a minute. He wasn't disguised, but his identity didn't matter as much as keeping his friends and family alive did.

I can't use Magic, so now is the best time to use this thing. William thought as he retrieved an interesting-looking greatsword from his Space Ring. The blade was a solid grey color, while the handle alternated between colors of black and white.

Seated in the hilt was a single gemstone that looked like yin and yang, swirling colors of black and white that rotated in the opposite direction as expected.

The weapon William was holding was called the Abyssal Weapon Shifter, a spoil he had earned from killing the Ancient Gravitas Mummy during the trials in the Gravitas Ruins.

The cost to appraise it was previously a thousand Potential Points, but after the System upgrade that reduced the cost to zero, William inspected every item he owned, eventually coming down to this one.

He couldn't appraise the weapon now, but his Mind Talent was able to vividly remember each stat associated with the Abyssal Weapon Shifter.

———

Abyssal Weapon Shifter (Mythic Magic Weapon): A magic weapon that once belonged to an Ancient Cultivator by the name of Gordon Whitesbane. When Gordon was captured and became a monster two thousand years ago, his Weapon Shifter was one of the two items sealed.

Sealed: Absorb the Mana of 8 unique Cultivators to unlock the next seal.

2/8 Restrictions Removed (2/10 Mana Absorbed)

———

With William's Arrays Talent, he could unseal all of the Seals without a need to fulfill the requirements, but he didn't have time for that right now. For now, this would have to do.

He rushed into the battle immediately, his figure speeding through the crowd of Cultivators and Magical Beasts alike at a speed that was untraceable even by Golden Core Cultivators.

Only Nascent Soul Cultivators could barely see a blurry figure moving in the distance, who occasionally stopped to cleave a Golden Core or Nascent Soul Magical Beast in half.

Some of the higher-ups that focused on controlling the battlefield became anxious when they saw who the newcomer was.

"It's that William! Damn it, did he escape from Supreme Left? Yuming isn't here to stop him, someone needs to go down there!" the Mayor said with an angry expression on his face as he stood up to rush towards William.

He had planned for Yuming to hold the center of the battlefield, but the man had the gall not to show up. Without a capable Earth and Life Mage to control the situation, all their plans had been completely wasted.

"Wait, Sir." the oldest Elder stopped the Mayor from leaving. He pointed at William, who had just taken out the fifteenth Magical Beast in ten seconds. "Look, he's helping us! Let's just let him be for now, we can handle him later when the battle is over."

The Mayor looked at William with confusion. Was one of the most wanted criminals of the Azures Continent actually helping deal with a Beast Tide, or was there some sort of underlying scheme? He shook his head and opted to keep a close eye on William, lest the boy do something reckless under his nose.

He had read all the data on William, as every Mayor was required to do when someone new became a large bounty. It was imperative of them to know who their potential enemies are, their strengths and their weaknesses, and their habits.

He had read about how William was suspected of absorbing the World Core in the Livingwood Forest, and possibly even the ones in the Foam Desert. He had killed an old Space Mage and stolen his valuables, and even abandoned his own Sect!

With a track record like that, how could the Mayor possibly believe that William's intentions were pure? He activated his most powerful detection Arrays on his equipment and focused all his attention on William, watching as the boy cleaved dozens of enemies apart in a matter of seconds.

Of course, the most interesting thing about the whole event was the sword in William's hand that swapped to a longsword, then a spear, and eventually a bow and empty quiver.
