Infinite Regression :I perceive everything

Chapter 3: Chapter 3 You can see me!

Fang Xiu woke once more, his mind shattered, his sanity gone. The brutal agony of his last death had completely unraveled him.

The pain was unbearable.

"Ah! D*mn it! D*mn it! D*mn it!"

Fang Xiu screamed, cursing in a frenzy.

"Darling, it's time for breakfast."

His wife walked in, smiling gently.

"I'll eat your d*mn breakfast!"

"I'll kill you!"

"Can you see me?"

"I'll stare right back at you!"

Fang Xiu charged at his wife, his actions resembling that of a lamb foolishly rushing toward a tiger.

Unsurprisingly, he died again—this time, more horrifically than before.

...

The fourth time.

After all the chaos and breakdowns, Fang Xiu finally regained his composure. This time, he decided to close his eyes.

If ignoring it was impossible, then he would shut his eyes and pretend to sleep.

Perhaps it was the multiple deaths, but he felt no fear this time. Instead, a strange, fearless determination, as though he had survived for eighteen years, coursed through him.

"Darling, it's time for breakfast."

Fang Xiu remained motionless, eyes still shut, pretending to sleep.

"Darling, still not awake? The sun's out, it's shining bright," his wife's voice lingered softly in his ear.

Fang Xiu could easily picture the scene: a gentle, beautiful woman in a white nightgown, kneeling by the bed, gazing at his profile with a loving smile.

She was probably cradling her delicate, pale chin with one hand, tilting her head ever so slightly, a hint of helplessness on her flawless face.

"Darling~ aren't you going to eat breakfast?"

Fang Xiu didn't move. He knew that "breakfast" wasn't meant for him to eat; it was for her to devour him instead.

He had made up his mind—no matter what, he would not get out of bed.

Every time he awoke, he was bitten to death. This morning "bite" was something he could never bear.

His wife tried several times to wake him, but when she saw that he remained asleep, she fell silent.

Had she left?

That d*mn woman... was she walking around without making a sound?

Fang Xiu didn't dare to open his eyes. He decided to wait.

The room fell into a deathly silence, quiet enough that Fang Xiu could hear his own breathing and heartbeat.

Then he realized something—logically, if his wife wanted to wake him, she should have touched him, not just called out to him. Why hadn't she made physical contact?

Was it because... she hadn't confirmed whether he could see her?

It was then that Fang Xiu finally understood the meaning behind the words, "Never let them know you can see them."

This rare peace didn't allow Fang Xiu to rest. Instead, he began to think.

What exactly were they?

Who wrote the blood-red words on the ceiling?

Why did they vanish the moment he saw them?

Why was he able to keep dying and resetting?

There were too few clues to deduce anything.

He tried to absorb all the memories of the body's original owner, hoping to find any trace of answers.

An hour passed.

This was the longest Fang Xiu had survived, and during that time, he had gathered the fragmented memories, piecing together the nature of this world.

It wasn't all that different from his past life. It was still a modern urban setting, with people living normal lives. The only difference was that this world seemed to have an unnaturally high number of strange paranormal events, though most of them were nothing more than rumors. But the sheer number of them was unsettling.

Could it be... that his wife was a ghost?

At that moment, Fang Xiu had a sudden urge to open his eyes, not because he had lost patience, but because he feared wetting the bed.

It was well known that one needed to relieve themselves upon waking.

As an adult, wetting the bed was one of the most humiliating things imaginable, second only to defecating in public.

And with the silence around him, his wife might have already left.

But, just to be sure, Fang Xiu held it in for another hour.

Unable to wait any longer, he decided to get up.

He was alive, and he wasn't going to let a full bladder kill him.

He planned to open his eyes, but there was still hesitation. Having watched countless horror films, he feared that the moment he opened his eyes, a beautiful face would be right in front of him, staring intently at him.

A classic "face-to-face" moment.

Such scenes often appeared in horror films.

His bladder was now at its limit, so Fang Xiu cautiously opened his eyes a crack. His vision was blurry, obscured by his thick eyelashes, but he could at least check if anything was blocking his view.

Nothing!

All he could see through his lashes was the pristine white ceiling.

A sense of relief flooded over him.

The first step was successful—the most terrifying sight had not materialized.

He turned his head slowly, hoping to see whether his wife was still by the bed.

But to his surprise, she wasn't there!

The bedside was completely empty.

His courage grew, and he sat up carefully, even stretching his back in an attempt to feign a stiff neck, half-closing his eyes as he surveyed the room.

The entire bedroom was empty!

It was a victory! She had finally left!

But he couldn't let his guard down. She was probably just outside.

If he went to the bathroom now, there was a good chance he would run into her.

Fang Xiu wasn't foolish; he wasn't going to leave the bedroom to use the bathroom.

In every horror movie, the moment someone goes to the bathroom, they die.

He decided to relieve himself in the bedroom's trash can.

He couldn't bear to wet the bed, but the trash can was his limit.

Just as he slowly rose, his feet touching the floor, a chilling voice pierced the silence.

"Darling, you're awake."

Fang Xiu's scalp instantly went numb, and he froze in terror.

He turned around instinctively, his blood running cold.

There, lying on the pillow where he had just been, was a pale, beautiful face.

Her face was framed by a soft, loving smile, her eyes locked onto him with a look full of tenderness.

It was his wife.

But she seemed to have no physical body, her form submerged into the bed as though she were floating in water, only her face visible, the rest of her body hidden beneath the sheets.

"Sh*t!!!"

Fang Xiu was startled by the sudden horror and nearly leaped out of his skin.

Despite all his precautions, fearing that his wife might scare him, he hadn't anticipated this—she had completely defied his expectations and was under him all this time!?

When?

Had she been beneath him this entire two hours while he had been lying in bed?

I've been lying on top of her for two hours!?

This thought sent a wave of terror sweeping through Fang Xiu's entire body.

"You can see me!"
