Chapter 10: The First Step After Getting Rich: Resigning
After a long day, the sky had already turned dark.
Shen Qing called Zhang Yan, saying that her company matters were too busy and she wouldn't be able to meet him today.
She also asked where Zhang Yan was staying and whether he had a place to stay.
When they got their marriage certificate earlier, Zhang Yan had mentioned that he would cut ties with Li Chuchu completely and move out of their rented apartment.
Shen Qing was quite worried that Zhang Yan might not have a place to stay since she knew his hometown was not in Haicheng's city center.
Hearing how thoughtful and concerned Shen Qing was, Zhang Yan felt warm inside. He told her that he was staying at the Aegean Sea Hotel, which was far better than his previous rental.
Shen Qing was relieved but still found it hard to believe. "Husband, how did you end up staying at the Aegean Sea Hotel? The rooms there are really expensive. Do you need me to transfer you some money?"
Zhang Yan chuckled. "If you send me money, wouldn't that make me a kept man?"
"Don't worry, I have money. Actually, I've made quite a bit over the past three years. I'll explain everything to you later."
"Alright then… But if anything happens, you have to tell me right away, or else I'll be worried."
"Yes, of course."
After chatting for a bit, Shen Qing said she'd be busy until noon the next day and would come to see Zhang Yan then.
Zhang Yan thought about it and suggested, "Why don't I just come to you instead?"
Shen Qing happily agreed and told him she was at Xueshan Ventures.
After hanging up, Zhang Yan felt a bit hungry, so he called a hotel staff member to take him downstairs for a meal.
As a guest in the presidential suite, the hotel provided three meals a day, including steak and seafood buffets.
Just this one meal alone would have cost around 2,000 yuan.
While eating, Zhang Yan started planning his next steps.
Right now, he had 20 million yuan. With that kind of money—something a white-collar worker might never earn in a lifetime—why would he continue working like before, struggling every day to make a living?
So the first thing he needed to do was resign from his current job.
With that decision made, he enjoyed a relaxing bath in the large tub and then went to bed early, sinking into the soft mattress.

The next morning, Zhang Yan left the Aegean Sea Hotel and took a taxi straight to his company—Youxia Games.
Youxia Games was a local game development company in Haicheng. In the industry, it was considered a third-tier company—not very well-known, and it had very few successful games.
The company had caught the wave of the mobile gaming boom a few years ago, benefiting from the industry's growth and securing its place in the market.
It had two or three games that continued to generate revenue, supporting a staff of 70 to 80 people.
However, in the past two years, Youxia Games had been struggling, with its performance steadily declining. Despite this, the company's boss, Yang Tianhua, was a decent man. He never tried to cut costs by exploiting his employees, and their benefits remained intact.
Because of this, even though the company was facing difficulties and sometimes delayed salaries by ten days to two weeks, no one chose to leave. Everyone silently stuck to their posts.
Yang Tianhua's good character had allowed Zhang Yan, as a product planner, to earn generous performance bonuses for his contributions over the years.
Unfortunately, all those bonuses had been lent out by Li Chuchu.
When Zhang Yan arrived at the company, a few colleagues greeted him cheerfully and asked if he had finalized the house purchase yesterday. They also reminded him that once he moved in, he had to invite them over for a housewarming.
Everyone knew that Zhang Yan had taken leave yesterday to buy a house, so naturally, they wanted to congratulate him and ask about it.
Explaining what had actually happened was too complicated, so Zhang Yan just smiled and nodded along, then made his way to the boss's office.
He knocked on the door, and Yang Tianhua's voice came from inside. "Come in."
As soon as Zhang Yan stepped in, he saw Yang Tianhua frowning deeply. But when he saw it was Zhang Yan, his expression relaxed. "Oh, Xiao Zhang, it's you."
Yang Tianhua had started his business when he was in his early twenties, so he was only in his early thirties now—a young entrepreneur.
Because of this, he had no generation gap with his young employees, and the company atmosphere was harmonious.
In his three years at Youxia Games, Zhang Yan had made significant contributions to the company, and Yang Tianhua knew it well.
So he was always very polite to Zhang Yan.
"Come, sit down," Yang Tianhua said, pointing to the chair in front of his desk.
Zhang Yan sat down, and Yang Tianhua pulled open a drawer while asking, "Xiao Zhang, did you get the house yesterday?"
"You could say that," Zhang Yan replied after thinking for a moment.
Technically, he didn't get the 80-square-meter two-bedroom apartment, but he did acquire the Zijinshan luxury villa.
"Oh, then congratulations!" Yang Tianhua smiled and took out a red envelope from his drawer, placing it in front of Zhang Yan.
"Here, take this—it's a housewarming gift. Don't be shy about accepting it!"
