Chapter 149: Chapter 148:Punitive March 3.
Dark clouds deeper than ink cover the skies, while small purple streaks that are possibly thunder illuminate the area.
It is a thick forest in complete silence, as if it were a beast waiting to devour the travelers. Within the confines of such a green prison, the grass easily reaches three feet high and clouds of violet poison float aimlessly.
*Boom*
Along with the deep rumble of thunder that seems to want to shatter the earth, other parts of the forest light up and reveal a huge beastly claw. This one digs into the ground, while vines cover its surface and the passage of time seems to have run over it.
"Lord Menōmaru..."
Keeping her voice extremely restrained, Hari raises her head and looks towards the one who remains perched on the claw. He is a man with long green hair, pale skin, handsome appearance like all demons and who dresses elegantly.
"My servants, they have proven to be really useful to me... But"
"Sir... Menōmaru..."
"They need some upgrades"
Withdrawing the sword that anyone could recognize as Clouded Fang, Menōmaru waves it to wipe away Hari's blood and then also slashes at Ruri's newcomer.
"How powerful will they be in this new form? "
Watching but at the same time not seeing how his servants melt into a red liquid, Menōmaru continues to talk happily with Clouded Fang.
[I can understand your doubts... Power that easily comes, easily goes... But you need not fear, as long as you keep me by your side, your power will be infinite and so will your army]
With the last words emerging from Clouded Fang's hilt, Menōmaru's eyes lose focus for a few moments and then a goofy grin spreads across his face.
It is obviously Clouded Fang's ability to control those who wield it, turning them into unconscious slaves who will follow his every wish.
"Hahaha, perfect, then I too will do my part to finish off that fox and the sons of Inu no Taisho"
[Remember, this is not all the power I can give you... I need more blood, more souls, more destruction!]
"You shall have it, there will be so much blood that rivers will form, souls enough to tempt even the messengers of hell, and enough destruction to satiate you"
Laughing in an unhinged manner, Menōmaru lifts Clouded Fang into the dark sky and lets loose a slash into nothingness. The sky was cut in half, revealing a reddish interior and from which oozes a liquid of the same hue.
The forest began to tremble as it came in contact with the reddish liquid, causing the atmosphere to thicken and the darkness of the sky to be stained red.
"This power... Hahahaha."
Without even noticing the tentacles of red flesh surrounding his arm, Menōmaru is completely drawn in by the hell gate he just opened, not even noticing that it seems to be slowly forcing itself shut.
[Meido Stone... Even dead he still interferes with my plans. Now wake up your men, send them to loot, burn and kill... Satisfy my desires!]]
...Christopher/Asahiko pov...
"They sure kept this one pretty well."
Standing on the huge yellow back of Miroku's friend/servant, I begin to run my hands with interest over him. It's not that he's a weirdo or that my tastes have changed, but that this tunuki has transformed into a giant yellow flying being.
"Asahiko no one has held anything back, it's just that normally Hachi doesn't accompany us. By the way Hachi, why did you come looking for me?"
"I wasn't looking for him, let me go... I was just passing by."
"Hachi, Hachi, we are old friends, how can you refuse to give me a hand in this desperate situation?"
Watching as that debauched monk walks up to the head of the flying bug/squash, I notice that Miroku starts gently tapping his staff rhythmically.
Yeah, the bastard's threatening it, but I'm not going to complain, it's a lot easier to go flying than on foot, so... Sorry new partner, you're a sacrifice for the greater good.
"But, but... Whenever I go with you it always ends badly, like the robbery of the white haired beast boy. Besides that now you're making me go back to the place I escaped from"
"Mr.Hachi, what can make a powerful tanuki like you run away?"
Surprisingly, who intervenes in the conversation wasn't anyone from Inuyasha's group, they seem used to Miroku and Hachi's dynamic, but it was Hitomiko who was listening carefully to the conversation.
"You're new and so you don't know it, but this tanuki is also a coward. The only thing big is his size"
"Inuyasha!"
"What, Kagome, am I lying? Remember when we got mugged, I just had to pull Steel Fang out and he ran off, he went"
Before Inuyasha can continue with his story, which is interesting, Kagome gives him a dirty look and lets out a "Down", causing Inuyasha to fall against the ground.
The Crash was so hard that it shook the big raccoon's body, luckily I was firmly gripped, though Shippo had to be saved by Sango so he wouldn't fall.
"Let's ignore those two, big tanuki, you can answer the question of my mighty priestly club... Ahem, Hitomiko"
"Um, answer it, I'm interested too what can make you run away that fast, Hachi"
"Not that I wanted to run away, that was the only option... I had never seen such things, you couldn't call them humans or yokais anymore"
Even before finishing his words, a tremor runs through the big flying tanuki's whole body, clearly whatever he saw left him quite scared.
"Bah, to say that you wouldn't have said anything"
"Shut up fleabag, there are those who aren't muscle heads. ouch, why are you hitting me!"
"So you learn not to mess with me, raccoon. Can you smell that?"
Catching Shippo's head with one hand and pulling him to the side, I see how Inuyasha quickly gets up from his place, and then starts sniffing the air.
I never get tired of saying it but... God, what level of senses this guy has, and that he's only half demon, I don't even want to think about Sesshōmaru's.
"Inuyasha we're human"
"Don't even look at me, everyone knows I keep my senses pretty reduced normally"
Raising my hands quickly to avoid Inuyasha's gaze that was on Miroku earlier, he made it very clear that I'm not the best for this question.
"I've never understood why you do that, doesn't having superior senses make you better in battle, Asahiko?"
"Puff, sure it does, but it also makes you more sensitive to pain, strong tastes, unpleasant smells and a long list of more things"
Pointing out the disadvantages of having these super senses to Sango, my hair stands on end and I can feel an evil energy in the air.
It's not that I've gotten good at this feeling of energy all of a sudden, but this energy I felt every day, so I'm already super used to recognizing it.
"What a disgusting feeling, I can almost taste the evilness of it."
"Protector of the west, great white tiger and master of storms. Byakko:Air bubble"
Pulling out a talisman from inside her costumes, Hitomiko chants and incantations quickly, so much so that I could barely hear a few sentences before it activated.
What matters is that the talisman was surprisingly effective, the surrounding air was purified and a sort of bubble made of wind completely covered us, leaving out the influence of Clouded Fang.
"Amazing... Miroku, why can't you do this with your talismans?"
"Priestess techniques are different, Shippo. It's not just human power, but by serving the gods, they can borrow a small part of their power and use it in their talismans."
Umm, now I'm starting to hesitate to leave this support character with them, but admittedly it's a good inclusion.
Basically Hitomiko can train Kagome, provide support from afar for Inuyasha's close combat, and she's human... heck, I'm strengthening the opposing team!.
"You're awesome, Hitomiko. I on the other hand... I haven't even managed to create a sacred arrow with your help these past few days."
"No, no, it's not as incredible as you think, Kagome. It's all due to practice and luck of having great spiritual power, instead you managed to feel the spiritual energy in just three days without training beforehand... Now that's something really incredible."
Being speechless at the way they groom each other, she stopped making a big deal of it, as Sango has also joined in, then looking down.
The vibrant green grass now has yellow patches, while there are several dry trees here and there, making it a strangely jarring sight.
Out of that I can see... A human? That thing walks in a sluggish manner, hitting the stones and roots of the path, while strands of reddish energy shoot out from its body. All of that could happen, but what made me doubt is that half of its body is a shapeless mass of flesh, while it's also missing one half of its head.
"How can it even move?"
"Need I remind you, Miroku? That sword is Misty Fang, the sword from hell."
"What a foul power, so that's what raising the dead is all about!"
