Invincible after death, but in Warhammer 40K

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Ship Down

Inside the engine area, a large number of Astra Militarum troops shuttled back and forth, while Skitarii, carrying various instruments, carefully searched every inch of the area.

It was no wonder the captain was so confident that no one could hide there. The personnel were spaced less than a meter apart, and with so many elites and instruments deployed, even an invisible fly should have been discovered.

But, unfortunately, even searching with this density was of little significance to a psyker of that level.

She displayed no characteristics on the instruments, caused no breeze in her movements. She was like a phantom that had transcended the real world, or just a ghost that could not be perceived.

The detection capabilities of the conventional equipment that could be deployed were like trying to scan a stealth fighter with a World War II radar, and any attempt at psychic detection was like trying to teach a fish to swim.

Although the Aeldari were one of the countless hated Xenos, no matter what, the advanced nature of their technology in concealment, agility, and psychic abilities could not be denied.

Unless relics from ancient times were activated, perhaps only a handful of cutting-edge devices in the present-day Imperium could match them.

Obviously, such equipment would not be found in the small hive city of Akolan.

Of course, some might argue: Since the most advanced equipment they currently possessed could not affect her, then what difference did it make who was sent to use these devices? Wouldn't notifying people like Artwood be meaningless?

Normally, that would be true, but this world doesn't follow logic.

Perhaps the equipment couldn't detect anything, but the intuition of those strong warriors in a particular moment, a palpitation in one second, or even a tremor in one instant—these seemingly mystical things could indeed capture some information that could not be captured originally, or display a performance beyond common sense.

Taking the Space Marines as an example, even with the same Power Armour and identical power output limits, the performance of a Chapter Champion compared to an ordinary warrior wearing the same suit would be completely different.

The human body—isn't it wonderful?

However, it was not difficult to understand why the people under the Adeptus Mechanicus would subconsciously deny this situation. If this cognitive flaw wasn't guarded against from the beginning, it could not be compensated for by mere meticulous planning afterward.

It could only be said that the Aeldari had likely guessed the captain's affiliation based on the ship's interior design and characteristics, and had considered that he would have a cognitive oversight, so she dared to blatantly take advantage of this time difference.

Very clever. If they could have half of this intelligence on important matters, they wouldn't have fallen to this point.

Inside the corridor.

Just as Zhang Ge had walked halfway to the engine area, he heard a series of violent explosions coming from the direction they were heading.

Under the successive explosions, the vibrations spread throughout the entire ship, bringing out a cacophony of buzzing noises, and even the lights flickered several times.

First, there was a deathly silence.

The people around him were not clear about the cause of this anomaly, so they subconsciously maintained silence in accordance with the regulations to avoid interfering with communications.

Then the broadcast turned on.

The captain's voice, carrying some confusion and self-blame, came from various loudspeakers:

"All engines have been simultaneously sabotaged. The source of the attack is unknown. The damage is confirmed to be unrepairable... After investigation, all engines have stopped running. We are falling."

The broadcast did not turn off after this sentence. A series of curses, moving from far to near while carrying a synthesized electronic feel, came through, followed by a gunshot and the sound of something bursting open.

A low and suppressed voice replaced the captain's speech:

"Order 1: All areas are to be isolated. Any attempt to break the lockdown will be treated as enemy forces. Order 2: Five seconds after the end of this speech, all Grav-plates will be used for anti-grav drifting. Everyone prepare for weightlessness. May we be protected by the Omnissiah."

After this message, all the heavy metal hatches closed simultaneously, and the sound of locking bolts rang out from all directions.

Zhang Ge even saw the Skitarii nearby move quickly and directly and unceremoniously block any possible openings, including the ventilation ducts, pushing everyone away from these entrances by at least five meters, regardless of their identity.

Considering that this was just an ordinary corridor, one could imagine how tightly guarded the important areas such as the Grav-plate would be.

In Zhang Ge's mind, the five-second countdown quickly passed.

A violent feeling of weightlessness came over them, and even his feet were a little hard to keep attached to the ground. The word "falling" instantly took on a tangible meaning.

However, he had come to the wall in advance and grabbed the emergency railing, so he was only floating around and was not directly thrown out.

Looking at Amilia next to him, she still had that indifferent look. Zhang Ge, who was in a good mood at this time, could not help but joke:

"Amilia, will the God-Emperor protect us in this situation?"

Unexpectedly, she turned her head and answered seriously:

"He will."

Outside.

After a series of violent explosions, the Command Ship's thrusters quickly dimmed.

The other ships were completely confused by this sudden anomaly. For a time, the captains of the various ships did not know what to do. Only the ships belonging to the Adeptus Mechanicus, at the first moment the Command Ship began to fall, adjusted their direction according to a preset procedure, flying diagonally towards the ground together.

Soon, the first round of rescue attempts appeared. Under the remote control of the Magos Dominus, several ships of similar size approached the Command Ship and tried to forcibly prop it up with their hulls. But these transport ships had already filled all the load they could possibly carry before departure. Where would they have any spare capacity to move a large ship that was the same size as themselves? Doing so would only turn the crash into several ships crashing.

However, it was at this moment, as the Magos were seriously considering how feasible it would be to forcibly throw all the PDF, Astra Militarum, and their supplies and similar out of the ship, that an incredible phenomenon appeared.

The Command Ship was drifting.

Perhaps this was a bit too abstract, but it was the best description that people who witnessed its flight path could provide in a short period.

As everyone knew, even a piece of iron, even with a certain initial velocity, would fall almost straight down after flying a short distance.

And an Armed Transport ship... considering the density of its materials, it was likely much heavier than a solid block of iron.

So, although it had the initial velocity provided before the thrusters failed, it was not very fast. According to the mass of the ship, it would accelerate and crash straight into the ground after maintaining its flight attitude for a short distance.

Even with gravity-plate systems, it would only slightly delay the arrival of this event.

But now, the Armed Transport ship actually began to glide diagonally downward at a basically flat flight attitude and constant speed after accelerating downward for a short distance.

If it continued at this speed, to say nothing of crashing, it could be considered a soft landing by descent standards.

After passing through the initial shock and joy, communication requests rained down on the Magos Dominus who was on the Command Ship.

The basic summary of what each side was trying to express was as follows:

Other Magos: For the sake of being colleagues for so many years, tell me what device you secretly installed on the ship. Don't force me to beg you.

Magos Dominus: For the sake of being colleagues for so many years, who secretly installed a device on my ship that could have this effect? Don't force me to beg you.
